It's amazing. They were in control all season long. They were so good there wasn't much room for drama. Just kept rolling. Price was such a maestro tonight my BP never went above 120/80 in a clinching game. They were just dominant all the way.

Pearce and Eovaldi were pretty good pickups this year :)

119 wins.
7-2 in the AL playoffs facing 2 100 win teams.
4-1 dominant World Series
+33 run differential
Clinched ALCS and WS against 2 Hall of Fame starting pitchers

A selfless, egoless, and truly fun team to follow all season long. This is the best Red Sox team of all-time and I don't think there's even an argument. Player after player stepped up all postseason long. Nathan Eovaldi is the stuff of legends. Rick Porcello being the relief ace in the ALDS and ALCS plus starting. David Price and Chris Sale willing to take the ball in relief between starts. Joe Kelly and Ryan Brasier stepping up huge. Steve Pearce has a legendary World Series. Jackie Bradley has a legendary ALCS. David Price silences the haters once and for all. Brock Holt hitting for the cycle. Alex Cora for building a culture that everyone felt as ease and could play their absolute best. Also pushed every right button in the postseason.

Still should’ve picked up Soria at the deadline.

I remember listening to WEEI until about 4:00 am the night the ball went through Buckner's legs, caller after caller bemoaning decades of failure, wondering if I'd ever see the Sox win a championship having been that close. I was 22 at the time and legitimately feared I'd blown my one chance at championship glory. It took a while but to have had four now in 15 seasons is mind blowing.

Maybe this was discussed elsewhere this week, but I'm pretty sure that Bogaerts is the only member of the 25 man roster who had won a WS before. There's gonna be a lot of happy dudes in that clubhouse.

Holt wasn't on the postseason roster, but he joined the team in 2013 and got a ring.

They are playing New York, New York in locker room, lol. Did anybody notice that Cora's daughter hugged everyone on postgame platform except A-Rod who only got a high five? Lol.

Bring me the Yankees. Bring me Huston. Bring me the NL All-Star team.
Now there's no doubt. No one can say oh, the Sox win but they got lucky and didn't have to play Houston, or worse, the Yankees. There's absolutely no room for doubt. The best team in baseball is the Boston Red Sox.

All year long. Best record in the preseason. Best record all year long in the regular season. Tested every which way in the playoffs by the best competition the game could throw up at them and they walked the fuck right through every one of them in stride.

Just a phenomenal team, through and through. So likeable. So fun to watch. What s team.

It really has been a bewilderingly amazing past 15 years.

The complete abject depression after 2003.
The magic of 2004.
And for this to now be a regular, realistic goal each year...
Just unbelievable.
Yep in 2003 after shitty A Boone I laid in bed that night literally thinking 'what am I going to do now [with my life]?' and feeling like all the air was sucked out of my lungs. Getting so close to that elusive WS and to fall short in heartbreaking fashion...an epic nut punch.

Then we get Schilling and he makes the Ford commercial 'gotta break an 86 year curse' and 2004 happens in all its drama and glory.

And now we've got 04, 07, 13, 18! All I needed was one, but yet 4 isn't enough. Let's savor this one but to quote Tom Brady, my favorite one is the next one...

I’ve mentioned in a few of these threads how this year is the first time my oldest has really been the baseball junkie that I am. She tried to make it through the 18 inning game, knows the matchups well enough to ask why ERod was still in vs Puig and cried in joy when Sale buckled Machado. She’s got her superstitions about what to wear and where to sit.

She was born in 2007 and I explained to her that she’s had 3 WS champion teams in her life and I’ve only had one more in mine. How the team that she knows never has felt snake bit or “cursed”. How John Henry has built an organization that runs so well from top to bottom and allows the guys to do their job.

It’s so awesome to be able to share this team with her and my other daughters. She’s sleeping in her Wakefield jersey and probably has as big a grin as I did in 04.

I know that it's silly to include the Sox spring training record, but gaudy numbers are fun so I'll do it anyways:

Spring training: 22-9
Regular season: 108-54
Post-season: 11-3

Red Sox 2018: 141-66

141-66!!!

My kid is 26, she is a huge Sox fan, is convinced that she will marry Benintendi, and we watched the game together tonight, which was awesome. She didn't want to go to sleep because she loved watching the celebration. But the crazy thing is that she has experienced the same number of championships in her 26 years that I have in my 56. When I was growing up, I was told "it's hard to be a Red Sox fan." She told me "it's great to be a Red Sox fan."
Amen

I was 24 that night. I remember everything about that evening distinctly, right down to getting ready to call my dad as soon as the final out was recorded. If someone had told me after the Mets won game 7 that the Red Sox would go 16-3 in their next four World Series, I would never have believed it. I only wish my dad lived long enough to experience one of these championships, but I've been blessed to have a son and daughter who grew up to become Sox fans and who have experienced this unreal run of success with us.

But, yeah, there's a part of me that just can't comprehend these glorious times. Wow.

I can relate, as my oldest was also born in 2007. He watched some in 2013, but does not remember much about that one. The first world series he watched intently was the Cubs win (he's also a Cubs fan- his mom is from Chicago and he was born in Illinois). It's been a blast to watch with him now that he understands and appreciates the game more.

So he's only 11 but has memories of 2 Red Sox world series wins, the Cubs breaking the curse, watching the Patriots complete 2 amazing super bowl wins, and is now a huge fan of an excellent Celtics team.

What an embarrasment of riches.

My son was born 2.5 months ago. I live in NYC and my wife is a big MFY fan. The battle over his future fandom has been won, I think. I'm buying him an adult size WS t-shirt. Sure, an infant onesie is great for me to parade him around in, but in 20 years he'll be stoked to walk around with a WS t-shirt from his birth year.

Such a cool, random piece of trivia that someone else posted before the game, worth updating here:

The Red Sox have now clinched a World Series in all four American time zones this century.

My son was born October 20, 2003. His first birthday was game 7 of the ALCS. He turned to me tonight and said 4 times in my lifetime. I shook my head and said “mine too buddy, mine too.”

You can't clinch a post-season series. Clinching means the outcome is determined but there are games left to play. When the outcome of a post-season series is determined, they stop playing.

Yes, this bothers me.

clinch

/klin(t)SH/
verb
  1. 1.
confirm or settle (a contract or bargain).
    "to clinch a business deal"
    synonyms: secure, settle, conclude, close, pull off, bring off, complete, confirm, seal, finalize;

Sorry, Rasputin, I'll try again.

Such a cool, random piece of trivia that someone else posted before the game, worth updating here:

The Red Sox have now secured, settled, concluded, closed, pulled off, brought off, completed, confirmed, sealed, and finalized a World Series in all four American time zones this century.

(As everyone knows, this was a best of 7 series, so there were actually 2 games left to play...the only reason that they didn't play them is because the Red Sox clinched by winning 4 of the first 5. So, even using your own definition that 'the outcome is determined but there are games left to play"...clinch was the right word to use. The fact that they don't actually play the remaining games in the postseason vs. the regular season, when those games have other reasons to be played, is completely irrelevant. Get off my lawn.) :)
