I haven’t been there in a few years, other than two or three quick attempts to get results I couldn’t find elsewhere, like Preakness results. Which I couldn’t find there, either. Ten years ago I likely had it open in my browser 24/7.

Do folks still go there with so many other options ?

I jump on a few times a week just to check scores at the top of the page, because I still find it convenient. I may click on an article here and there if it's interesting but my overall consumption of their media has gone way down.

In 2002, I visited ESPN.com at least 10 times per day. It was a must read and surf website. So it was thousands of clicks every year.

I think I end up on ESPN.com a couple of times a year now, at most, usually via a link that I click. I never go on my own. It is not even bookmarked. For quick sports information, I use CBS Sports or Yahoo. Both are better and less ugly. The web management team at ESPN has set up their website to be something you don't want to visit. It is actually kind of fascinating to be that bad. Respect.

I couldn't tell you the last time I went to the site. So many other available options that are better laid out and easier to navigate.

Same goes for the channel too (when I used to have cable). Outside of live sporting events, I never watched ESPN. Through my teens and 20's, I would have ESPN on for a minimum of 4-5 hours a day. Then they stopped showing highlights and switched to a bunch of people sitting at a round table yelling at each other. No thanks

I haven't intentionally gone to the site in a decade or so. Only way I find myself there is if I click a link on twitter or something that is masked somehow (bit.ly or some other url shortener). There are too many other options for scores or news that aren't poorly designed or overly sensationalized.

espn.com has one set of stats that I haven't been able to find elsewhere - hole scoring averages for pga tour events. That's the only thing that brings me to the site, and typically only during the majors. I also don't watch the NBA, which seems to me to be the primary product espn is trying to promote. And, I can get NFL info lots of other places, most notably in BBTL.

This is pretty much me. Most of their interesting stuff is behind a paywall at this point regardless.

I have found ESPN to be faster in updating standings than most sites, so when I want to see how teams stand after a game I will go there. If anyone can point me in the direction of a site that does it at least as fast, I would be very grateful and never go back there.

ESPN.com still dominates the US industry for all things that matter.

They're a monster for organic search, ranking first in most of the keywords and phrases that matter. Their closest competition (CBSsports) is only about 25% as relevant:

41488

41489

And more importantly, their website traffic to ESPN.com has actually grown by about 50% over the last 5ish years:

41490

So, I'm not sure about the SOSH subset, but as far as the US presence, ESPN has been thriving.

Rarely, and it’s declining. I’ll check international soccer tables from time to time. The adverts make the page insufferable.

Just once a day. I basically open it as my first page of the day just to see what the big game/story is overnight. But never go so far as to click into a story. I'm sure the front page will continue to turn more into a hot take vehicle to draw viewers into the debate shows, so my enthusiasm will continue to go down like it has over the years. Years ago I had baseball and football fantasy leagues through the website, listened to the online radio shows (not really called podcasts at that time), and cycled through the initial 'newspaper guys to ESPN' shuttle: Gammons, etc: can't think of most off the top of my head but they really had a roster of excellent writers in the early 2000s.

If I want a specific score I type "Red Sox" or "Yankees" into the internet search bar on my phone or tablet, or I speak it. If I want standings, same thing "MLB Standings". If I want to see all the NBA scores I go to nba.com. One less character to type, and I know the scores will show up on the front page.

Surprised by the negativity here. I love the app for checking box scores in the morning and for learning any breaking news throughout the day.

Rarely - other than a quick check of scores, there's nothing there for me anymore. Their coverage of teams I care about is terrible other than Reiss's work on the Pats beat.

Was tempted to check never, but in reality I'm sure it's a few times a year. But so infrequent now, I don't even remember them. It used to be a constant, daily thing, but on the occasions when I'm looking for sports content, I use CBS or Yahoo now. For score updates, I just google. Bigger picture, my interest in reading online about sports has declined dramatically in the last 5 years or so. A combination of probably age, shifting interests, and the fact that much of the content seems flimsy, gossipy, and largely uninteresting to me. When I want good discussion, analysis, and insight, I come here.

One of my fantasy baseball leagues - and a fantasy football league, are on ESPN. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably be more like 1-2 times a week, but that bumps me up to at least daily to set lineups during baseball season.

I opened it a ton during the bubble to watch NBA games at work, and I do like to check out anything by Mike Reiss, but that is it. Other than live sports, I never watch the channel, unless I happen to turn it on when SVP is doing his bad beats segment, which I always find amusing when I catch it.

ESPN.com used to be a multiple times per day habit for me. Fantasy, the old Page 2, and national and local coverage were all draws. The loss of talent, format of the site and better options have led me away from the site. The only times I'll go there is to read a full Reiss article. I like Reiss, but his twitter feed generally gives me his takes and that is enough so I don't have to hit espn.com too often.

Yeah at one point ESPN was my home page. Now the only times I go there are either if someone here links to something on there, or maybe if I am looking up stats/results that I can't find somewhere else for some reason. I ditched their app a while ago as well as I find the Yahoo Sports app to be less busy and more straightforward for checking scores and getting score updates, which is the only thing I need a sports app like that for.

I watch games on ESPN on the TV and Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption. And I like watching Top Plays, so I often turn on SportsCenter for the last 10 minutes to see that.
Pretty much the same. Live games, and for some reason I still find those two dopes on PTI amusing. I also like College Game Day a lot. The only pre-game show I watch anymore. The rest of their TV content, zero interest.

I’m like @Bob Montgomerys Helmet Hat — a few times a day. More to see scores and check headlines, but I’m not too proud to admit that if a headline grabs me, I’ll open the story. I subscribe to The Athletic and get my best coverage there, but ESPN.com serves a need for me.

One example - if a trade happens, that’s a good place to learn the details quickly and get high-level consequences I might not have thought of right away (eg “this calls into question if the Giants still have a spot for Johnny Cueto in their plans”. See I don’t have SF Giants roster on my mind all the time. Then I’ll pick it up at The Athletic when they get real analysis up later.

I read Zach Lowe's articles and some of the NBA Draft stuff after they picked up the Draft Express team. All scores and news I go to CBSsports.com. Just a better site with less BS.

I find the website convenient, and use it mostly as one stop for basic info. I use it to check scores and box scores and in multiple sports, I also find it a good TV guide for what games are on and where/when. But I generally don't read content, past the headline. I rarely watch the mothership other than for games, but sometimes I'll put on SC and SVP late night and watch from the sack.

In the mid to late 90s it was easily 4-5 times per day. The quality of the site went downhill over the last decade and I really stopped going completely. I removed it from my bookmarks bar (yes, I still use that.)

Sometimes I go to the site it's almost like I typed the URL by mistake based on years of muscle memory and I wonder why I'm even there.

I should mention that in my home office, I have 3 screens, (one big, two satellites) so ESPN, the channel, is on all morning on one of the screens, usually. But that is without volume because I like watching the sports replays.

I put down "a couple of times a week" since I use it to get running box scores for Celtics games. Other than that I never go there.

Never, and don't watch it either. Now that my AL-Only fantasy league has moved to another provider, I have no reason to go there anymore. Always had disdain for ESPN dating back to when they bumped the NHL link to the "Other Sports" in favor of NASCAR and MMA. That NFL and NBA coverage dominates doesn't help since, for me, they're a distant 3rd and 4th for me behind MLB and NHL.

I know this is a website discussion, but I don't even watch the channel anymore. There hasn't been another major cable station that has gone from must watch to absolutely no interest for me since I grew out of cartoon network. I think the non-stop Sandusky coverage and the killing of Baseball Tonight was the death knell for me.

Timely thread. I visited this week to see the video of Kyrie's statement about racism in Boston. Was the first time I had navigated to ESPN.com in months.

I use the app to check scores but rarely visit the site. The rare article I read there I get linked to through Twitter etc, never from browsing the site.

Sometimes I'll do a google search about a story, score, or standings and an ESPN result shows up and I click on it without knowing. But I haven't consciously decided to go to the site in forever, mostly because of the intrusive ads and auto play videos.

Not counting espn3, maybe once every 2 weeks to check schedules across multiple sports. And every week for fall to do thread schedules

I definitely still go multiple times a day. 95% of it is just to see headlines and scores/previews for gambling purposes. I will read Reiss or an occasional article here or there, but overall I am not going there for articles as much as it is just habitual for me to go there for the other stuff.

I do everything in my power to not use their app — their media players and app in general are such trash. It is infuriating.

I visit multiple times per day to check scores, headlines, the occasional highlight and to play a few of their fantasy sports games/contests. If there's a topic I'm interested in, I typically head over here where the discussion is already underway with better info than ESPN.
