Roma just Mourinhoed Feyenoord.

The man may be well past it at top level but Mourinho still delivers trophies. Roma hadn't won a trophy since 2008 and a European trophy since 1961. You can say its only the Conference League but this is still a big moment for them.

That puts his record at 13-2 in cup finals, including 5-0 in Europe.

The winner of the UECL final will land a £4.25m/$5.35m pay out with the runner up receiving £2.5m/$3.2m for their efforts.

So just doing some back of the envelope math in my head, Roma earned about (E)$12M for this campaign? Probably not a lot for Roma, but if some smaller clubs start winning this that could be a huge boon.

For comparison, here's Europa League:

The Europa League finalists, Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers, each attained $5.2 million merely for advancing to the championship match as the last two teams standing in the tournament. However, the winner came away with nearly double that amount.

Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt pocketed an extra $4.53 million due to qualifying for the UEFA Super Cup, the one-off encounter against the UEFA Champions League winners which is traditionally scheduled in August as the kickoff to the European season.

  • Europa League Winner: $9.73 million
  • Europa League Runner-up: $5.2 million
The full picture of how prize money in the Europa League is allocated can be found below in the following table.

Simply managing to reach the Europa League group stage is worth a handy $4.11 million for all 32 participants. The deeper an outfit managed to advance in the competition, the more financial incentives were collected along the way.

So about (E)$20M or so? And that's not taking the auto qualifying into UCL into account. That's worth about (E)$18M before any matches played, and may not take into account TV money.

I think that's just the prize money and not the TV money, which depends both on how far you progress and what country you represent.

I've seen making the semis or final of the Europa League estimated around £30-35m for English clubs in total. Some of those clubs might also be earning in the neighborhood of £1-1.5m per home match in ticket sales and other matchday revenue.
