This morning ITP launched a podcast, hosted by our very own Chuck Zodda and Mark Schofield. We plan to have it up on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn, etc shortly, but for now, you can listen on the site or on SoundCloud ("Inside the Pylon: The Podcast"). I may be biased, but it is a great listen. Chuck and Mark brought on two guests, ITP writer Dave Archibald and former NFL scout for the Eagles, Giants, and Jets and now director of The Scouting Academy, Dan Hatman.

The podcast covers highlights from week 1 in the NFL, including Chuck and Mark discussing if the Colts can bounce back from their week 1 loss to the Bills, an in-depth discussion about Tyrod Taylor (what Mark liked from last week and what he expects going forward), and a discussion about the Ravens and Broncos. Dan Hatman discusses with Chuck and Mark The Scouting Academy and the aim of Dan's new venture (which ITP is collaborating with), and Dave Archibald comes on to talk about the Patriots 4 TE goal line formation and its success last Thursday against the Steelers, which he wrote about in an excellent article on ITP

Here is the link to the first episode.

Please give it a listen and let us know what you think.

Enjoy!

Guys, I feel somewhat uncomfortable pumping our own stuff.  I mean, it's our stuff - written and produced by us and generally focused towards us (and folks like us).

But at the same time, I've witnessed the TREMENDOUS amount of work that goes into this.

This podcast will end up costing the team money, these things just don't generate a ton of revenue unless you're an Adam Corolla.  It's being produced because the dudes who produce is love football and love producing it for you guys.

Chuck also has a dreamy voice.

I would be happy to kick in a few bucks if it helps cover expenses.

This was really well done. I'm not a football fan, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. The half hour flew by. Also, yeah, Chuck's voice is perfect for radio.

Just worked through all 3 (plus the surprise of the 4th showing up while listening to the 3rd) and I'm seriously impressed.  From the flow, to the voices, to the fact you have a fucking NASA sponsorship (I'm still trying to decide if thats a joke or a real sponsorship) this is quickly moving up to the top of my podcast rotation

Week 8 Podcast

We hit a lot of different stuff this week, including having our own Dr. Christopher Geary on at the end of the show to discuss some of the injuries from the last week. I generally don't like to comment on the quality of what we're doing, but if you haven't given us a listen for whatever reason, you should really take a look at this episode. I've listened to a lot of the other football podcasts out there, and what we do in this episode can go up against anything else around.

If you  have feedback or things you want us to talk about, LET US KNOW. We welcome you telling us we suck, as long as you tell us how we can get better. But give a listen, and if you have two minutes, please rate us on iTunes and subscribe there as it helps to get us up the rankings so other people can see us. Here's what we cover this week:

  • Breaking down the Denver/Green Bay tilt from Sunday night, looking at the ways Denver was able to neutralize the potent Packers attack, as well as whether this game indicates Peyton Manning is back to regular form (1:54)
  • A look at New England’s offensive attack on the first drive against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football (8:48)
  • The Harry Stamper All-Go Offensive Play of the Week, featuring the touchdown pass between Brian Hoyer and Nate Washington of the Houston Texans (11:42)
  • Mike Backherms helps to explain the concept of Offensive Success Rate (OSR) and Defensive Success Rate (DSR) data and what its uses are in terms of explaining where a team is successful or struggles on both sides of the ball (17:09)
  • A look at the “Mesh Point” entry from the ITP Glossary, focusing on how the technique works with regards to option offenses (23:56)
  • The upcoming matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in the disappointing NFC East, touching on the struggles of the Philadelphia offense and whether Dallas can weather the storm until Tony Romo and Dez Bryant return (28:21)
  • The battle for supremacy in the NFC, looking at the growth of Cam Newton on the Panthers and how the matchup with the Packers will help to shape the playoff picture in the conference this year (33:31)
  • A prank call to Dr. Christopher Geary (39:38)
  • Dr. Geary joins the show to discuss Week 8 injuries, as well as how the latest rehabilitation techniques have helped to improve recovery times for athletes facing common injuries (42:20)

  • The Harry Stamper All-Go Offensive Play of the Week, featuring the 39-yard TD hookup between Cam Newton and Corey Brown of the Carolina Panthers (16:28)
  • A look at the ITP Glossary term "Option Route" and what it means in the modern NFL offense (22:10)

Thanks for letting us know. We're having trouble replicating the error - it's working on several different platforms/devices.

What kind of phone? We'll open a ticket with iTunes when we've got the info. Thanks again.

We have two podcasts for you this week, consider this a little Christmas present for all of you who have regularly listened.

First, we have our regular weekly show going through the major stories from Week 14, and are also joined by Alex Kirby to look at some of the recent trends in offenses.

Second, we put together a scouting roundtable with Matt Miller of Bleacher Report and Dan Hatman of The Scouting Academy in a 35-minute look at the rules they use to evaluate players and build their draft boards.

Lastly, I do have a request. Please subscribe to and give our podcast a review on iTunes, as this helps us to get more exposure and better placement. It takes 2 minutes, and is a massive help to us as we build this out. Thanks to everyone who has listened so far this season.

As I posted in the FA thread, the interview with the just-signed-now-a-Chief Mitchell Schwartz is a must listen. It was too short (because it was so much fun & informative) and it flew by in no time.

Great job, guys. Just am so excited that ITP is getting so many different types of guests now, from scouts to pundits to analysts to players. Would be incredible to have Mayo on one of these days.

Thanks SSF, that was a fun one. Another good episode that's up right now is from Wednesday with Brent Sobleski from Bleacher Report. He interviewed Tony Franklin and Tim Polasek, the offensive coordinators for Goff and Wentz. Really good stuff that sheds light on the offenses they ran, their responsibilities in each, and how much was on their plate. Addresses some of the misconceptions, I think, about their offensive schemes.
