Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Anyone else experience an iPhone 8+ (or similar) just losing wifi? IOW the toggle to turn wifi on and off won't even toggle, it's off, with no ability turn it on.

I've done several of the recommended minor resets, but my wife would kill me if I try a full factory rest even after doing a full backup. (it's got her entire work-life on it, and her IT people say it's a hardware issue, and since it's her personal BYOD phone, they won't even try to fix it, since she still has full access to work product thru cell service. Her work issued iPhone is sitting on her nightstand, unused due to it's smaller screen)

I'm assuming that her wifi antenna just died.....

Can you connect to a hotspot, like your phone? That might be a sign if the antenna is indeed dead, but I’ve never heard of that happening.

Oh I misread and thought it just wouldn’t connect to your wifi network. The antenna can be replaced but it’ll cost you $399.
Luckily, she has amazing VZW mvno reception at work and on the drive to/from home. Home reception is OK (we're in a valley), but not stellar. For $399, it'll have to do.....

I suggested that she reactivate her work issued phone as a back up, so that it's at least covered by her work IT.

At the risk of sowing marital discord, I don’t think there’s anything to lose in this scenario. A factory reset is unlikely to brick the phone and if the backup is complete then a full restore should be easy.

You know that, I know that, but no way no how would I try that. Tho in theory she's not on call 24/7, in practice she might as well be, and I don't want to be responsible for her phone being out of service for even five minutes.

Did she connect to any unusual-sounding networks?

what about doing a backup and restore to a new phone but keep the old one until she’s transitioned over? I find the backup and restore on iPhone to work very well. You just need to enter the passwords again.

Is there an Apple store near you? She might trust an Apple employee to do it and it would keep you out of firing range.

BTW, after doing a Bing search, this is apparently a known, if uncommon, bug. Is she running the latest version of IOS? If not, updating might solve it.

Here's one article addressing the situation: https://www.lifewire.com/wifi-grayed-out-on-iphone-fix-1999599

First thing I checked. I even considered rolling it back a few updates, in case the latest update was the issue.

She's not making a big deal of it, so neither will I at this point.

Anyone know if previous generations go on sale after the release of the next generation iPhone? I'm looking to replace my Xr soon.
I guess my question is this: Will the iPhone 12 be on sale (or at least cheaper) after the upcoming release of the 13?

Yes, typically they knock $100 off each model (and discontinue sometimes the oldest one that's still for sale).

Sweet, thanks for this. Hopefully my phone battery doesn't completely shit the bed before then.
Yeah I really can't wait to upgrade to one of these newer-gen phones. I'm still rocking an iPhone 6S and I've almost moved to a 12 Mini a few times this year. Maybe I'll finally decide which phone to upgrade to and make it happen.

Usually previous gens will start showing up in the Apple refurb store too, can get some good deals that way. I've bought phones from there on several occasions and they are effectively as good as new ones. I would expect you'll see 12's on here once the 13 is out.

Good point - Apple refurbs are a great deal sometimes, and I'd never worry about buying one.

Another +1 for Apple refurbished. I've bought multiple computers & iPads this way; all come with new batteries and the same warranty as a brand new device.

What's in stock can change day to day so if you don't see what you're looking for keep checking. Alternatively don't sleep on grabbing what you're looking for if it is in fact available.
