AT&T store for the win. Got there just before 6, was third in line vs ~200 people already in line for Apple store at the same freaking mall entrance. I was out of there by 8:30 with my phone.

I didn't have any issues upgrading my iPad Air or 5S to iOS 8. I'd be a bit on the fence about upgrading anything using an A5 chip like the A5X in the iPad 3 though. I've heard A5 devices can run iOS 8 a bit on the slow side, but i haven't tried one personally.

It is crazy, although my assumption is that a lot of the people lining up are buying them to resell at a profit.  My 6+ was already delivered at home, but I'll have to wait until I get home tonight to use it.

I think in city areas it's easier to justify. A lot of apartments don't have doormen and people can't wait at home for 8 hours to catch a delivery. Instead, they preorder for pickup and go wait on line.

If you're in bumblefuck....you're a dope.

I had to delete Swype. The lack of a dedicated "globe" keyboard change button is a non-starter. I can't seem to figure out how to easily clear out a word when it miss-swipes in Swiftkey (which you just hit backspace once in Swype instead of clearing each letter individually in Swiftkey), but does anyone know if this is possible?

My roommate waited in line overnight for the original PS2 release, paid the $300 in-store and sold it on ebay for $1200.

I have to say that Touch ID worked great for me in the 5S, but on this it seems even faster and it hasn't failed to work once for me yet.

no problem updating to ios 8 on a 5s. Did it on a Macbook Pro after backing up everything. I went in and turned off the battery draining functions like location based ads, etc., so far the phone is behaving fine, no battery life issues. I held off upgrading the icloud service until after Yosemite gets released. Overall, aside from the new keyboard function, seems like a bland update, but I haven't really explored much yet.

Handoff is amazingly cool.

I've only had my 6 for three hours or so, and I already think the screen on my old 5 feels cramped.

I popped out of the office to look at the 5th avenue Apple store, and it appears that approximately 100% of New Yorkers are in line for the new phone. In addition to the entire block promenade being one big line of people (20 x 150 I'd guess), the line to get into the promenade was two blocks long.

For those w/ the 6 or 6+, is the default text (like name of apps, Safari text, etc.) larger than the 5? Or is it identical and they just have more space around and more on the screen.

I just opened mine up when I got home from work (delivered some time today after I ordered last weekend). In setup you have a choice of larger icons and text which looks like it keeps roughly the same spacial arrangements as a 5 but bigger. Or you can pick the regular old size and there's room for an extra line of apps on the screen. Not sure if that's what you're talking about.

Yeah you have the option of increasing screen real estate or just zooming in the 5/5S experience. Plus you have the global text size adjustment.

Entering hour two of my new 6 trying to download all my apps via the "restore from iCloud backup."  I would say a little under a fifth of them have been completed.  Excited to play with my new phone sometime tomorrow morning.

(My home WiFi has been shit recently, which is likely the main culprit here.  But it is a strong case of blue balls.  And I figure the "Apple sucks!" crowd might like to add this data point to their arsenal.)

There are also probably a bunch of other people hammering the App Store with downloads right now.

My biggest issue so far has been that I'm not able to get Handoff to work between iPhone and iPad. It works between MacBook Pro and iPhone, and MBP and iPad, but the iPhone and iPad don't want to talk to each other over bluetooth for some reason. I'm wondering if its because the iPad is looking for my old iPhone with the same name?

I have one and I love it so far. I was concerned that it would be too big, but it's not. I'm still getting used to having to change the way I do a lot of things, but the bigger, higher resolution screen makes it all worth it. I have always preferred reading things on my phone over my iPad, and the larger screen is perfect for that.

When you say its not too big, does it fit comfortably into your pocket?  Thats the one thing holding me back from the Plus.

I've had no issues comfortably fitting the phone in my front pocket (or sitting down with it in my front pocket). I've only tried it with dress pants and shorts, but I don't think it should be a problem with jeans either since I tend to wear looser styles of jeans. And that's with the Apple leather case on the phone and I'm probably going to try to go without the case (until I can find a case that's thinner and lighter), since it adds more bulk than I'd like. On the other hand, my wife tried and couldn't fit the phone into her jeans pockets. For anyone over 6 feet tall and who doesn't wear particularly tight styles of pants, it should be fine. For anyone else, I'd recommend checking it out at the Apple store before buying it if you want to be able to carry the phone in your front pants pocket.

Personally, I think even the 6 is too big. I've never gotten Applecare or anything like that before, but I think I have to with this, as it seems pretty certain I will destroy this phone a couple times due to semi-ungainly size.

I like the size of the 6 so far. I probably would've been happier if they'd gone just a touch smaller, maybe 4.5 or 4.4 since this is basically at the limit of usability or past it a bit for one-handed use for my hands with my stubby fingers. I can use it with one hand, but I find it easier to shift the phone a little to reach the top than to try and hold it in one hand such that i can tap the home button for the "Reachability" feature.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get the 6+ ASAP.  I waited until today where I could hold them in my hand in person and try fitting it in my pocket and have decided to go with the 6+. I am pretty specific of what I want with 64gb and space grey color for AT&T.  Is my best bet just refreshing the apple website and seeing what store close enough by has one and purchasing it for in store pick-up? Am I missing any other way to get it sooner?

You could try calling local AT&T stores and asking if they have stock. I think the 6+ models may be significantly harder to find though.

Word is that at sometime between midnight and 3am (nice short window there) the stocks get reset for the next day.  Some apple reps said to check at midnight, but it wasn't clear whether that was midnight local or midnight pacific.  They showed up around 2:30am eastern last night.

If you hit the website late at night, you should see some nearby stores where you can grab what you want.  I tried it last night, and the 128GB 6+ came up, only for me to realize later that if I wait until Friday, I qualify for a further discount.  So, I didn't buy it and am waiting.

I wandered in to my local ATT&T store on Thursday. I spoke to the manager and landed up ordering a space grey 6 Plus 64GB. He assured me that if I ordered right there and then it would be shipped no later than October 12. Since the place was dead and I was the only person there I asked him how many they had in stock and he told me three and that at least 25 people had come in that day and told him they would be waiting outside from midnight but he didn't tell them that. He just used the party line that there would be "limited availablity".

I left and by the time I got home, which was just a few minutes, I had received my confiormation that my order would be shipped some time between NOVEMBER 12 and 28th not October. I was a bit pissed. Anyway I am going to have an authorization sitting on my account for about $430 for two months by the look of it. He did offer me $200 for my trade in which I was quite happy with. Anyway, I'll try calling periodically around stores to see if I can get one sooner.

Got my iphone 5 battery replaced tonight so had time to play with the new models.

The 6 is IMO the perfect size. I'll probably not update though until the 6S because my 5 is in perfect condition still.

The 6 Plus is laughably big. IMO they should've gone 4.7 and 5 or 5.2. With the bezels the thing is like an old school PDA.

Has anyone found a case they like yet? I've been using the Lifeproof cases on my previous iPhones and really enjoy it's slim profile compared to the Otterbox. I need to get something ASAP even if it's only a bridge until Lifeproof releases their 6 model.

Just got back from exchanging my 6 at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store due to a slightly dimmer upper right corner. I love that Apple doesn't question exchanges over minor defects, and even though I bought it at the AT&T store it's no hassle for them to swap it out for me at Apple. The screen on the replacement is absolutely gorgeous.

I do have to say that after playing with a 6+ in the store for a bit, I could see myself using one. And if I didn't have an iPad, I probably would've changed to the 6+ honestly. It didn't feel as awkward using it as i expected nor did it feel horrible in my pocket. One-handed use would definitely be out the window for me as my thumb can't even reach all the way to the opposite edge of the screen horizontally, but I think I would be able to deal with it IF it was my only mobile device. But I think for anyone with an iPad (or another tablet they use), the 6 probably makes more sense (unless you have gargantuan hands maybe).

One of the biggest improvements I've noticed so far going from 5S -> 6 is that the vibration motor is much more effective at getting me to notice it while in my pocket. With the 5S on vibrate I'd frequently miss calls as I wouldn't even notice it vibrating. With the 6, I feel even the quick vibrations from a new message or email.

I'm not a very demanding case customer, but have you looked at Monoprice?

I picked up the silicone case made by Apple earlier today for my iPhone 6.  Despite the pricetag, it's thin, looks great, and provides texture for the slippery back of the phone.  I didn't see anything else online or at the store that met my needs (minimal bulk, face down lip protection, not slippery).

Thanks for the case suggestions, I'll take a look and make a decision,

An iOS 8 question. Has anyone else experienced logout issues from SoSH since upgrading? I never had an issue of being logged out from the mobile version of the site until now. I have Tapatalk and know I could go that route but prefer the mobile layout.

That's what she said.
I got the slim/smaller Pelican case. I also puta Body Guardz Glass Screen Protector on it. $35 and I have broken two of them, keeping the screen on the phone scratch free, on previous phones. Great product.

I saw a link making fun of people who are down on this watch, it was a link to the reaction to the first iPod announcement.  But you know what, the first iPod aside from being small was actually kind of shit.  It was only 5gb (I had a 20gb player at the time the size of a discman), it only worked if you had a Mac (which weren't terribly competitive at the time), and it only worked over firewire.  By the 3rd generation I went out and bought one, but yeah people have odd memories of 1.0 Apple products.  Even the first iPad was dramatically improved upon by the second in less than a year.

I was given a top of the line ipad1 by work as a "bonus" and I would stress this.
In fact my experience with two issues (this and moving from UK to US) made me quit apple.
Within months this very expensive (like over 1000 USD because UK price was i think 800 GBP or something) was clearly left in the dust and in a year or two was totally obsolete. It had no camera, or video, a halfy gyroscope and worse when epople took ti apart it clearly had space saved for these additions, they just rushed it out before they were ready.

A couple of years later half the apps don't work, and it won't support several editions of upgraded OS. Basically it's a paperweight in no time.

Apple don't give a crap if you old very expensive toy doesn't work any more buy a new one. The watch will likely be the same, I'm pretty stunned they didn't rush it out pre christmas even if it sucks then announce watch 2 in march.

I think some context is needed. The iPad's challenger from Samsung (Tab 10.1) was released June 2011 and OS support was cut off March 28, 2012 (Android 4.0.4). The first Galaxy Tab was released November 2010 (Tab 7.0), and only received OS updates until February 2011. The iPad 2 was released March 2011 and is still supported by updates.
