Odd that he was arrested on essentially Friday night and the team either didn't become aware or chose to allow him to play Sunday.

Im glad the Patriots didn't do anything rash and just benched him on Saturday. If it was something crazy, cut him. But if he only, like, hit someone with a bat and choked them out while amped up on speed, maybe just give him a few weeks away from the team.

He didn't play, he was hurt.

(wonder if the substance was pain pills of some variety)
Thanks, missed that he was out, though the report that it was possession of cocaine would not seem to be a pain pill situation.

The old Branch Rickey statement to holdout Ralph Kiner comes to mind. "We finished last with you, we can finish last without you". Making a statement if the facts warrant one is certainly not going to ruin a most likely already ruined season.

Strangulation is a terrible sign, it's almost always an indicator for a severe domestic abuser.

Cut him and be done. My God.
This is exactly where my mind went, too- I give talks about intimate partner violence, and strangulation is a HUGE risk factor for homicide.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2573025/

"Non-fatal strangulation was reported in 10% of abused controls, 45% of attempted homicides and 43% of homicides. Prior non-fatal strangulation was associated with greater than six-fold odds (OR 6.70, 95% CI 3.91–11.49) of becoming an attempted homicide, and over seven-fold odds (OR 7.48, 95% CI 4.53–12.35) of becoming a completed homicide. These results show non-fatal strangulation as an important risk factor for homicide of women, underscoring the need to screen for non-fatal strangulation when assessing abused women in emergency department settings."

Absolutely awful.

Right. Got to respect due process here. Count the swings before taking any real stand. Not like they've been burned on that before.

The incident is obviously not on Mayo, but he's already fumbling the response. With BB gone the "no one is in charge everyone is in charge" approach down there is not off to a great start.

Strikes me that given the situation, he should step down as captain while this is under investigation.

Dammit. Unless there's some hellacious misunderstanding here, he needs to be gone.

I liked what he brought but he's not gonna be part of the next playoff team here, and if he can't help build the culture, there's no need.

I have no problems taking our lumps on the field, but I don't wanna root for that.

This feels right to me. Putting aside the awful social and moral component to this, and thinking of a purely from a football standpoint, this is extremely disappointing. A guy who had a ton of skill and talent who had finally found his place on the team and had emerged as a leader.

I really enjoyed watching him on the field but I can’t help but think that football just poisons people.

I'm OK if he ends up waived, but I'm also OK with waiting for a few more facts.

Bill would have cut him right after that phone call on Saturday morning.

Cocaine, assault, domestic violence -- all nonetheless 24 hours before a home game? He needs to be gone.

Link to where this is noted as a domestic?

All the reporting I’ve seen is that the victim is unidentified

not sure it matters too much but I think the public perception of him being coked up and choking out his partner is probably different than if he got into a tussle over drugs with another guy

Not noted, but it was at a residence and the victim was female, which usually is all you get unless the woman in question comes forward

Where are you guys seeing domestic assault? Not saying it wasn't, just looking at the news posted here it doesn't seem to say that. Or I missed it, which could be the case.

CD's link above doesn't explicitly say domestic, but does say the victim was female.
Details about the incident were not revealed in court. According to court documents, the accuser told police that around 4 a.m., Peppers hit and choked her multiple times before pushing her down the stairs.

FWIW, Peppers' lawyer had this to say, referring to a no-contact order.
"Judge, despite the fact that this is the case where there is evidence I have already seen that sheds real doubt on the allegations, including videotaped evidence, my client will not object to that condition and he'll agree to the same thing," Peppers' attorney said.

Update on Jabrill Peppers: he pleaded not guilty in Quincy District Court this morning. He was ordered to stay away from the alleged female victim. His case has been continued to Nov. 22, with his “appearance waived.” If he's arrested again, the judge warned, he can be “held." More with
I was holding out hope until I saw the word "female" in the above.

Like @EddieYost , one of my favorites of the current Patriots... but admittedly that's a low bar.

Good chance he’s no longer a patriot this week. This is one issue the Krafts don’t overlook dating back to Christian Peter.
