Another ugly night for the Oilers, a 6-0 home loss to Florida. Fans are throwing jersey’s on the ice.

They’ve drifted to 6 points behind the 2nd WC, though they do have 5 games in hand on SJS.

Man, if we had s thread for Edmonton, it would be titled, "McDavid Wasted." That franchise is a fucking tragedy.

When McDavid is on the ice in all situations they are outscoring opponents 65-35. When McDavid is on the bench, they are getting ouscored 88-50.

McDavid and Draisaitl are dominant together (46-16), both are around break even when they are on the ice without the other. When neither are on the ice, the Oilers get punched in the face, outscored 65-31.

If the Oilers miss the postseason this year, does McDavid demand a trade?

Holland and Tippett should be gone no matter what. What a waste.

Again the Bruins win and don't get much help on the out-of-town scoreboard. Ottawa coughs up a two-goal lead over the WC1 Caps and loses in overtime. Toronto, who's the team just ahead of Boston in the Atlantic, beat the Isles 3-1 tonight as well. The Bruins remain 3 points behind both the Leafs (same number of GP) and the Caps (3 games in hand).

At this point, though, I think the eight teams in the playoff picture in the East right now are pretty set. All the playoff teams have positive goal differentials, all the teams outside have negative ones. The Bruins look pretty comfy in the WC2 slot right now, as the next closest team is Detroit who is 8 points behind having played 3 more games. (And also sporting a -23 goal differential, and losing to Nashville at the moment.)

The Islanders might have a shot to climb into contention as they've only played 34 games thus far and have the least bad goal differential of the non-playoff teams. They've also won 7 of their last ten, but those wins were against: a COVID-wracked Bruins squad, Buffalo, Edmonton, New Jersey, Philly x2, and Arizona. If they start racking up wins against legit playoff teams, maybe we can worry about the Bruins' potential to miss the playoffs, but it's looking unlikely. Those four games they have in hand over the Bs are likely going to make their remaining schedule grueling.

Not sure if there's much advantage w/r/t jockeying for a higher playoff position. Given how condensed the back half of this season is, the more crucial concern might be keeping the team healthy and fresh going into the playoffs.

Montreal’s getting the boots again tonight. 7-2 in the 3rd. About the only notable thing is Cam Talbot came out after 2 in favour of Kappo Kahkonen.

The Flyers dropped their 13th straight, but Keith Yandle played his 965th consecutive game breaking Doug Jarvis’ NHL iron man streak.

No word on any reprecussions from the league for the recent alleged covid violations while he was in the AHL.

Duncan Keith, who notably said "no comment" about the Kyle Beach situation in Chicago says:

“He’s a big, strong power forward that’s hard to play against," Oilers defenseman Duncan Keith said earlier in January. “Any time you add a player like that, a good player, you’d be excited by that if that’s going to happen. We’d be happy to have him and excited to have him join the group and help us out.”

I think we know what kind of guy Duncan Keith is at this point.

McDavid got roasted for saying something to the effect of “winning is all that matters” when asked about Kane too.

Last night the Panthers third line (Marchment, Lundell and Reinhart) combined for FIFTEEN points. Six for Marchment (2-4), five for Lundell (0-5) and four for Reinhart (3-1).

They are a fun team to watch.
