I'm a spring training first-timer taking the family down to Fort Myers and looking at doing one of the games from the lawn/berm/bleacher area. Does anybody have any insight as to which area might be better? I have a 4 and a 6 year old, so I thought the lawn would be fun for them, but I worry about sight lines from there. Is it possible that we'd be able to move around between those areas? I don't know how full they get.

Additionally, what's the best bet for catching players for autographs/pictures on game days? All the games I'll be there for are 1:05 starts. It seems like BP is closed except to the tours?
How about the minor leaguers? From what I understand, the practice fields are all open to the public all day, right?

Any other suggestions on seating or making the most of our experience at the complex are appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Gates at the park open two hours before first pitch, so you could most likely catch the end of BP if you went in when the gates open (though I'm not sure if that makes a long day for the kids). I haven't seen a lot of signing during BP--usually it's pregame, either in the 3B to LF seating area as guys come in from warmups or over the top of the dugout by the non-starters while the starters are warming. (Sox dugout is on the third base line.) I have to admit I've never wanted to be in the crowd of folks waiting for autographs!

The practice fields are for the most part open to the public; sometimes they will block off Fields 1 and 2. By the date the major league games start there's usually minor league activity starting around 9:00a, though it may not be all day--they don't start playing games against other tams until about 3/16 (I'm still waiting for the official Sox affiliate schedule, but the Rochester Red Wings have posted theirs and the basic dates ought to be comparable for the Sox). Lots of guys in uniform crunching the gravel with their cleats--the kids may be impressed. If you're visiting after 3/16 the minor leaguers will work out in the morning and play games around 12:30 or 1:00p depending on opponent.

If you're coming down from the north: use more sunscreen and drink more water than you think you need. Trust me.

Looking to go to the Pirates game Monday March 14. Where's the best place to sit? Monster row 1? Monster row 3 to limit sun? Behind the dugouts?

Mrs Morganwerk and I sat in the first row at today's game. It was sunny the whole time. The 3rd row might be better for you, besides the shade there was also a nice breeze.
