We need to have a place to talk about what is going on. Right now he is playing out of his mind, but really this is a continuation from last year. Still even this year he has made improvements, 17 walks to 11 strikeouts, last year he walked 25 times the ENTIRE year.

Last night he won the game with a game winning HR in the 10th inning in Anaheim. His league leading tenth of the year. He leads the league in RBI's too and is slashing .368/.459/1.286.

What are we witnessing here? Is this sustainable (obviously this level of play isn't sustainable, but is he a top 10 player in the league)?

Also, Jeter who?

That slash line isn’t right, it looks like you did BA/SLG/OPS and usually people do BA/OBP/SLG.

His defense has also been typically strong, and I am loving the first week of Gleyber at 2B and Didi at SS, covering a ton of ground up the middle.

Ha, you're right sorry. I just woke up. I will fix.

So much for 'you never want to follow a legend"....Didi replies 'What becomes a legend most ?"

(Once upon a time, a VERY famous ad campaign, but for a product that is about as popular these days as cigarettes, sans the actual sales since it wasn't addictive: Blackglama)

At first glance, many of us underestimated Didi's size. BR lists him at 6-3 and 205. His swing is suited for the short RF porch in YS but last night he pulled one 381 feet, several rows into the seats.
By comparison, Xander Boegarts is listed at 6-1 and 210. Jeter played at 6-3 and 195. Didi frequently takes home run swings to right while Jeter was always trying to go the other way, rarely tapping into his natural power. Didi will pull the ball but he can go the other way, too. He even bunted against the shift last night.
The real question is can he put up numbers that elevate Didi to the status of top offensive shortstops, Correa, Machado, et al. One month does not make a season.

I remember saying at some point in a game thread last year how much I hated that Gregorius looked like he was turning into a superstar. He has certainly continued that trajectory so far this year. It's been (sadly) impressive to watch.

He was supposedly playing through some things, which is one reason Boone sat him both games this weekend (also it was two lefties), I expect him to be back in there tomorrow.

It's an awful slump obviously, but it happens, Paul Goldschmidt is a far better hitter than DIdi and he just had a 3 for 44 stretch (May 1-13).

It is just one month, but these stats are in the bank.

Looks like someone robbed Didi's "bank" - here are his current places on those same 4 lists:

WAR - 58th (1.3)
Batting Average - 105th (.246)
RBIs - Tie for 13th (34)
HR - Tie for 16th (11)

Fairly amazing fall, and not yet out of May...

That's life, as Sinatra sung it. Riding high in April, shot down in May.

In his last 22 games, Didi is hitting .099,(!!!!) with a .165 slugging percentage.

Off a cliff is generous. He's off the planet.

Looks like he might be heating up again, or at least getting out of whatever funk he was in. He has another 2 hits tonight after 2 yesterday.

The two last night were dribblers, but he has hit a bunch of balls really well the last two games off super tough pitchers in Verlander and Morton.
