Whoah, that's awful. His year wasn't going so well as it was. Very tough news.

If he has to leave the team for treatment I assume Lovullo would take over as manager?
I would assume so.  Terrible news.  Hope they caught it early and he can make a full recovery.

Have to think he is gone for the year and Lovullo would take over.

Torey Lovullo will take over Farrell's duties while he undergoes treatment.

I'm wondering if he just takes all of next year off with Lovullo in as an interim manager. I know fuck all about Lymphoma but I have the impression that it's not something one beats in a few months.

Stage 1 Lymphoma.  Dale Arnold says Farrell will begin chemo on Tuesday at Mass General.

I would assume it is NHL, and seeing that he is starting chemotherapy next week, would assume he is being treated with R-CHOP x 4-6 cycles.

Any insight into what kind?

Hopefully it's the good Hodgkin's.

Though in seriousness, sad news. Here's to him getting treatment and being in good health as the Red Sox manager Opening Day 2016.

As much as he has had to endure these past two years and now THIS.  Very fortunate to be Stage 1 and have some of the best doctors in the world right there in the city.

This shit just sucks.  We have all lost or been touched by this devil on this earth. Kick it's ass John, beat it down.

It took my dad in January, so yeah seriously fuck cancer. John will kicks it's ass, I have little doubt. I couldn't imagine having to go into the clubhouse and having to tell the players.

For all the criticism directed at Ferrell over the past 2 years, no one can say that he is not a good person at his core.  It's bad when s**t happens to anyone, but especially felt when it happens to someone with a certain level of fame and with whom we have become so vicariously close, whom you are confident you could become good friends with if ever given the opportunity.

Beat this my friend.

I can almost bet it's early stage DLBCL (diffuse large b-cell lymphoma) and he is getting 3 cycles of RCHOP, based on the "9 weeks" of treatment. Very curable disease as they mentioned.

Ugh, fuck cancer.  Glad it was caught so early, looking forward to the cheers he gets in Fenway after successfully kicking its ass.

Lester's car accident was the first thing I thought of as well ... a bad break turning into a fortuitous moment.

Fight the good fight, Mr. Farrell

This season already had a very 2006 feel to it.... this makes it a little too on-the-nose.

Like Lester in 2006, hopefully Farrell is prominently involved in a WS clincher 14 months from now.

Best wishes, John.

This may be the first lucky break for someone from the Sox all year in that he had the hernia surgery that allowed this to be caught very early. Kick cancer's ass John.

Kick Cancer's ass, John Farrell.

I did it, and you can too.  I hope you tolerate the treatment even better than I did.

A reminder that sometimes we take this sports stuff too seriously and personally.

Praying for a full and pain-free recovery for Mr. Farrell.
