I am no fan, but I think Kevin James might be able to pull it off, and it might be the exact type of thing he might want to do in terms of his career.

Gotta go Logue here. Funny, likable and could also pull off tough for the coaching scenes too. Donal Logue takes this to the house.

Logue’s an interesting choice physically. I can only remember him in rather serious or melancholy roles. Could he mimic Madden’s manic energy?

Do yourself a favor and catch Terriers. He plays a cop turned private eye. One of those shows too hastily cancelled after one season to the dismay of its fans.

Edit: And of course The Tao of Steve, a comedic indie flick from 2000.

you know, I never saw Terriers, but knew he played a cop/alcoholic and thought only Nordic crime fiction, and a host of other downbeat narratives (which I like, tbh). I had no idea it was funny. Shame on me. I’ll check it out.

It’s pretty good for what it is.

Madden was married right? Not sure they can find an actress to kiss Jonah.
Is currently is a romcom, and most disturbingly my girlfriend watched it texted me that he was kinda hot in it.

The only thing that keeps me from breaking up with her is that I've heard that from a few other women. I have no idea what's going on.

It's funny / suspenseful. Not exactly comedy. Logue has kind of a younger Nick Nolte in 48 Hours vibe.

Yeah I dated a girl like that too. She kept wanting to rescue the really fucked up dogs from the pound. Like with scars and missing ears or eyes and it’s just to sad to even look at them. She thought they were “cute.”

See, also, French bulldogs.

How long did it take you to figure out she liked your scars and missing ears?

Ray Stevenson. Another Vikings guy I think. And Volstagg. I don’t see him as Madden so much, but…I think it would be a little unusual to have an Irish/English actor play Madden, who seems so quintessentially American. But this is a fun game. Better than imagining BB castings…

Wonder if they will cover the Darryl Stingley story - one of Madden's greater moments and how he continually visited him until The Stinger was strong enough to go to a rehab place. He even had the Patriots' plane turned around on the runway in Oakland so his teammates could visit him.

Hopefully living it up on that video game money.
John Madden story: he was a very powerful man in the town of Pleasanton, CA, where he lived for a large part of his life. Owned a lot of businesses, etc. We looked at an open house, house he used to own, that was up for sale. Just kicking the tires, happy with the house we have. Anyway, the house had an open air foyer between the front gate and the front door, with a huge oak tree dominating the space, hanging over part of the roof, etc. Madden didn't like it and tried to get it removed, but the city wouldn't allow it, Oak being a protected California tree, etc. So, even Madden couldn't win over the state tree protection department.

Don't mess with us hippy tree-huggers! I haven't played the Madden video game since the 1990's. Can you pick your announcers AI style these days and will Madden still be available?

Now that’s an oak tree there, Pat. It’s a powerful tree. Just dominating the space. You don’t wanna run straight at it, but you also can’t get the state to cut it down, so you know it’s gonna be a problem.

This is good.

To play Madden: What about the guy who played Hopper on Stranger Things?

Maybe Tom Hopper could play young Madden and Stranger Things Hopper could play over 50 Madden.
Hopper looked like he lost a lot of weight for the last season of the Stranger Things, I guess since he was supposed to have been in a Gulag in Russia for quite a while. If you next asked him to put on a lot of weight to play Madden, might not be good for the body?
