Could they trade for Darius Slay? Would he fit under the cap? Would Miami trade Xavien Howard within the division? Those two names sprung to mind as Philly and Miami are already dead in the water and may be willing to move on from "older" corners in exchange for draft capital.

Why would a 3-4 Pats team trade draft capital for an older corner? BB will use patchwork and maybe a minor trade to address this. Pats should be clinging to 2022 and beyond draft capital as if their lives depend on it.

Bingo. A 3-4 Pats team which, at this point, has only beaten the Jets and Texans. In a way, paying the Chargers this week tests them on several levels, particularly if DMac is also out

Agreed. To me the direction of the remainder of the season is decided this weekend. You beat the Chargers and you have a real path to the playoffs. Lose and you’re basically playing out the string and thinking 2022 and beyond. We’ll have a good sense of where we are in a week. That offense is going to be very tough to shut down coming off of a bye given their improvement in 2021. I think we’re looking at TD+ loss and the effective end of the season.

Yes. Also a 3-4 teams that was a play away from being 6-1 including wins over TB and DAL. I’m not saying they should mortgage the future in a trade, I’m just saying people are underestimating this team.

One of the reasons 3-4 teams aren't 6-1 teams is that they don't execute well enough to flip those results. Beat the Chargers this weekend on the road and I'll start thinking that they're more than a 9-8 / 8-9 team

I think the Pats could lose the next four games by 200-0, and Belichick will still do everything he can to win every game remaining on the schedule. Dream of tanking and Investing for the future all you want, so long as BB’s in charge I don’t see it happening.

There’s almost no chance BB trades a valuable draft pick for an aging slot corner though. If there’s a guy out there who can help this year and beyond, I’m sure he’d kick the tires.
