soxprospects.com projects him as the starting 2B for 2022.
That just strikes me as lazy placeholding on their part. Same with listing Shaw and ERod. At least Schwarber has an option so it's not fait accompli that he's gone. Why not fill in the other blanks with names from outside the organization if they're going to guess about the pending free agents?

Yeah and I think it’s a futile exercise until we know if JDM opts out. Can’t guess anything until that’s settled.

Well, Duran's going to need a spot unless they're ticketing him for a full season in Worcester (or trading him). Barring trades, it's most likely Kike splits his time between CF and 2B, with Arroyo and Duran picking up the other half of the three-way platoon. I imagine if they pick up another player for the bench, they're probably looking for another Marwin Gonzalez type who can play more roles than Iglesias does.

Something to keep in mind is Iglesias' entire time with the Sox this year was after rosters expanded for September. He's a luxury they may not be able to afford with just 26 spots and their propensity for carrying a lot of pitchers.
The trade deadline was an overall win in hindsight, but I fear the non-move of Duran will look like a real misstep. He had a ton of value in July and for now anyway, a lot of it’s gone.

He’s almost surely opting out. JDM rebounded so well the potential for a trade is much higher than previous years’ opt-out decisions. Especially if the Sox can get a deal done with Schwarber, who’s suddenly a fan- and clubhouse-favorite and certainly seems to enjoy it here.

I don’t think the return would be huge or anything, but JDM at 1/$19M would interest a lot of teams, fringe ones as well as contenders, especially with 15 new hitter positions potentially opening up. We can see some cracks starting to show, but he’s still a top 8-10 percentile hitter in baseball. His agent should know that, which is why barring some deep desire to retire a Red Sox I think he opts out.

Re-allocating JDM’s money to Schwarber locks in the same .380 wOBA guy in the lineup to someone 5 1/2 years younger, and more likely to sustain it.

That projection looks like they're signing literally every free agent they have, which makes no sense. I'd be stunned if all of Dalbec JDM and Schwarber are on the team in 2022.

I think that the SP folks would tell you not to take those projections seriously.
Yeah, this far out they're really not going to be projecting free agent signings. It's a prospect oriented site anyway, projecting major league rosters is not their gig.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this quote from Joe Maddon, but Iglesias doesn't sound like a guy who thinks he's a utility/bench guy. Maybe he's willing to compromise to play for a contender.

“We felt by letting him go, he’d get an opportunity,” Angels manager Joe Maddon said. “He’s not the type of guy who wants to sit on your bench for a long period of time. He’s just not used to that; that’s not who he is. So, by doing it the way we did it, he has a chance to advance further. And we get a chance to see Jack over there.”
