Josh Gordon Reinstated (Again)

The NFL might be the only thing that can provide him with the structure he needs to be clean for any length of time. I’m rooting for him.
It’s also very important to make it clear that even though we *know* the dude in the detox is an addict, it’s very important that the dude in the detox makes that diagnosis and that *I* don’t even though I’ve seen/encountered people in facilities for over 15 years that *obviously* have a drug problem. Many who appear much MUCH worse than Josh Gordon. An addict must internalize that they are the problem and not some outside circumstance. That they didn’t end up in a detox for the 2nd or 20th time by accident. Certainly I point that out when I share my experiences with them. In other words “no one checks into Bergen Pines for Christmas because they want to be here”.
Not true. The structure we need is a recovery program. We *must* fit our lives around the program, not the other way around. Maybe the biggest mistake addicts make in not staying clean, in my experience.
I've been sober for 14 years. I know the drill.
Josh Gordon is an addict. But he won't recover unless Josh Gordon himself admits he's an addict. Both things are true. It is an inside job. It's not a judgement to state a person who keeps screwing up his life is an addict. It's not an insult. It's not a morality claim.
It's just a fact. And I hope Josh can get sober and recover and have an awesome life. I am pulling for him. Nothing would make me happier, because it is always a wonderful thing to see an addict recover.
Understand - it’s the/our posture that’s important. My best friend’s (he’s clean almost 3 years) wife is an addict who is active - and it’s another example of how difficult it is to deal with people we only wish the best for. There is no professional athlete I root for more than Josh Gordon.
Congrats to you, and I mean that sincerely. But again I was under the incorrect impression that the NFL had a drug abuse policy in which a player had x # of strikes. I was wrong, I wasn’t saying he didn’t deserve more chances.

What I was responding to is this: "With that said, at what point has Josh Gordon showed that he can change?"
None of us showed that we could change until that time that we did change, which is often the 10th try or whatever.
I totally get it, and apologies if I offended you or others with that statement. That was not my intent.
He goes to an organization where, a week before the Superbowl, a coach got drunk and crashed into a five year old leaving her brain damaged. Said coach also happens to be the head coach's son.
