McKenzie tweeted a bunch of deals that appear to be done. Nothing official until papers can be signed at 12, but looks like...

Sam Gagner, Michael Del Zotto, Anders Nilsson to VAN

Patrick Sharp to CHI (they're getting the gang back together apparently)

Trevor Daley to DET

Dan Girardi to TB

Evgeny Dadonov to FLA

Then a bunch of goalie musical chairs...Ryan Miller to ANA, Jonathan Bernier to COL, Steve Mason to WOG, Brian Elliott to PHI, Chad Johnson to BUF, Ondrej Pavelec to NYR

According to @KevinWeekes via twitter 16 minutes ago:

"Unofficially,what I'm told is Shattenkirk signing with @NYRangers 4yrs 6.9 Million per year. @NHL @NHLNetwork ."

This made me spit coffee out my nose. Holy heck. Overpayment much?
That contract is a heck of a lot better than the Backes or Beleskey deals. It's not great but pretty solid as far as free agent deals go. Much better than the Yandle contract, for example. Similar players.

Fair point, thank you.

Top pairing D, only paying for age 28-31 seasons. Out from the deal before his decline years. Shattenkirk will cash in again in 4 years.

Rangers have had a good summer.

Yeah that's been the best deal of today so far IMO. May be a slight overpay but the term is a win-win for both sides.

The Alzner deal...woof. 5/6 guy at best. Got a gift with Vegas taking Emelin, then pissed it away.

Habs D is....not good.

Edit: And they just signed Joe Morrow

Shattenkirk deal is a great deal for the Rangers even if its expensive. They're making all of the right moves right now.

Is Jagr a reasonable target? Top 6, veteran leadership for the youngsters, familiar with the city/team?

Tweet not rendering completely but 8x10.5 extension for Price. Starting in 2018-2109
Well, yeah, it's insane, but mostly because you're signing him until he's 130. That's locking up a lot of post-peak years.

On a more productive note, GMs must be confident the worst of the loonie's days are over, because the Price and McDavid deals will be the focus of the next lockout: can't let GMs sign guys to more than 15% of the cap.

Another part of the insanity is that it's almost all signing bonuses, essentially preventing it from being bought out. He also gets paid during lockouts

I hope not, he was awful the first time here. He might still be able to score a few points, although I would't count on him going past 40 in this system.

But he is SLOW, a puck hog, and not a 200 foot player. I pass

LeBrun retweeting the official Leafs PR twitter feed saying Marleau to TOR, 3/$6.25M AAV.

That wouldn't be awful for the Leafs if it were the one year at ~$5M, but paying for his year 41 season at over 6? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Toronto signs Marleau for 3 years at $6.25 AAV. A lot of money and term for a guy who's gonna be 38 at the start of the season.

Woof. High number with Matthews, Nylander and Marner due for extensions over the next few seasons.
Word on twitter is that with the structure of it, Marleau can play 2 years, get paid out, then get traded to Vegas and retire. No idea how that works though.

Caps have no cap space left after the Kuznetsov deal, so they traded Marcus Johansson to NJ for a 2nd and 3rd in the 2018 draft.

Are they just tossing Vegas in there with the Coyotes and Panthers as teams that eat contracts?

Radulov signed with DAL. 5-years $6.25 AAV.

MTL signed Ales Hemsky, 1-year $1 million.

Nice flier by the Habs on Hemsky, but a really weird offseason thus far. I'm not sure they're better, and their D could be really screwed if Markov leaves.

That Radulov contract would scare the piss out of me - definitely a chance he goes off the rails again and/or back to the KHL.

I'd be interested if the B's have money left after Pastrnak. Mr Bean can still play.

Weird offseason for the Habs. I'm not sure they got better.

In: Drouin, Hemsky, Peter Holland, Karl Alzner, David Schlemko, Mark Streit, Joe Morrow

Out: Alex Radulov, Andrei Markov, Nathan Beaulieu, Mikhail Sergachev, Alex Emelin,

Drouin replaces Radulov- Seems close to a wash in the short term. Maybe slight edge Drouin. They also haven't added any C's so their #1 C is still Phillip Danault. The D took a big hit IMO. They lost 2 guys who can move the puck and replaces them with the stay-at-home Alzner and a 40 year old Mark Streit. Schlemko is decent and can move the puck a little, I guess, but I think that D corp is really going to struggle. I think they're looking at:

Benn - Weber
Alzner - Petry
Schlemko - Davidson?
Streit and Morrow

On paper, I think that's a pretty lousy group.

Seems a bit steep, but the Preds are in a position to afford it. They've now got their core locked up for a pretty long time. Johansen, Arvidsson, Forsberg, Subban, Josi and Ekholm all locked up for 3+ years. Ryan Ellis is up in 2 years, but that's really all they've got. Don't seem they're going anywhere anytime soon. If they could just find a goalie....

That leaves Pastrnak and Draisaitl. Let's see who blinks first.
