Trout hit a HR on 3-0. 88 right down the middle. What's notable is that is just his second hit on 3-0, he was 1-5 with 203 walks before that.

Nothing good ever comes from "forearm strain".
i mean, if it is serious surgery, that has to be the end of the road for him, no? Maybe they are just gonna let him sit for a bit and see if it gets better so he can have one last hurrah in the postseason?

I've often heard the diagnosis of forearm strain, which sounds innocuous, but then it turns out TJ is required. Dusty Baker does sound optimistic, though.

Giants 1B Darin Ruf is an interesting story. At one time was one of the Phillies top prospects, had some injuries, went to Korea and had a couple 30+ homeruns, .900+ OPS seasons, and is now back.

You want only an even number lead? How the fuck do you come to that conclusion, ARod? A team would prefer a 6 run lead to a 7? This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard on a baseball broadcast, no hyperbole.

Ji-Man Choi had 735 MLB at bats coming into today, all left-handed. He used to switch hit in the minors and decided to pick that back up during Covid break and in his 2nd RH at bat today hit a 109.9 mph laser beam into the seats. Rays walked it off in the 10th.

Vlad Jr. could have ended it in the 9th if he knew how to play 1B, but instead he dove for the ball and so the pitcher had to cover.

He's said it at least one other time during a game. He claims Lou Piniella taught him that and that it's very smart.
What Piniella might have meant is that if you are up by one run late, you really want to get one more, because duh. The sort of thing a manager might say to try to get his team to focus on scoring an insurance run late in the game. Apparently A-Rod made it a pillar of his approach to the game.

Guess that’s why he asked for $252 million.

0.1 IP, 0 H, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 2 ER so far, 34 pitches for only 13 strikes, pulled, winning run on 2nd.
His descent feels somewhat like Bard's, though he had a longer history of success behind him.

Kimbrel is owed $16m this year (whatever that prorates out to) and next.

Jeffress got a K on ball 4 and a screaming liner right at the CF to end it. one of the most dubious 9ths not blown I've seen.

I’m picturing a Freaky Friday scenario. I’ve already started drafting the script.

Glasnow with 9 K’s in 4 IP tonight. Electric stuff.
He reminds me of a right handed Big Unit when he’s dealing. He was touching 100 and just straight up nasty. He got pulled at 72 pitches after the Rays hung an 8 spot up in the bottom of the 4th. They’re going to manage his pitch counts pretty tightly. Oh what might have been last year if he wasn’t tipping pitches in game 5 against HOU.
Rays pitchers ended up with 19 Ks total for the game. Also the offense mashed.

There was a lot of premature ejaculation over the White Sox. The most overrated team of the off-season falls to 1-4. They've allowed the most runs in baseball with four of their starters sporting double-digit ERAs and failing to survive four innings in their first start. Obviously Giolito's start was an aberration, but Cease has a half season's worth of results that haven't provided much to get excited about after a promising minor league career, and Rodon and Lopez (or whoever his replacement is) aren't guys who anyone should want in their rotation.

Meanwhile, Cleveland's rotation is 5 for 5 at making quality starts.

The Astros have had seven pitchers make their MLB debuts in the first 5 games, that seems like it has to be a record.

First, the Padres uniforms are great. The brown and yellow is perfect. Second, Pomeranz with his 1st save and another smooth inning. Three scoreless appearances so far this season.

So that’s the pitch he was practicing when he broke his window at home.
I had the exact same thought. Here's the Jomboy review:

Also, the Giants are discovering that moving in the fences slightly to make room for bullpens and keeping the OF doors closed (there are ground-level doors in RF that they usually keep open so fans can see the game from outside) is making Oracle Park a bandbox

The throwing at the Astros stuff is beyond childish. They got caught, they've been punished. Throwing at them exacts what sort of "revenge?" It's only going to lead to someone getting injured.

You struck me out so what. If I would’ve hit a home run I’d be running home right now is unimpeachable logic.

I’m fine with plunking them below the waist one time if a pitcher is capable of it (and most MLB pitchers should be). Correa especially has been defiant and not contrite at all. He didn’t learn his lesson.

Hitting them is no different than a hard foul or late NFL hit, if done properly. It’s not morally “right” but it’s simply a part of sports that won’t ever go away.

Where I have a real problem is intentionally going for the head area. That is really dangerous and can be life-altering. No amount of cheating justifies that. Now, if you want to argue that even the attempted “safe” HBP can get away from you and lead to more serious injuries, you’d be right so I don’t fault anyone for taking that position. It’s the most logical one.
