I actually think his call made Pena's play seem more extraordinary, which is a good thing.

Yeah, so context. The Mariners were down 5-2, in the midst of a 14 game winning streak, and Eugenio Suarez had just drawn a walk after an 0-2 count to drive in the second run. It was Kyle Lewis' (former Mariners RotY winner) first game back from another injury and they were already pretty excited to have him back. That ball was utterly smoked, and that play is likely going to be pretty high on a Best Plays of 2022 list at the end of the season.

I think the call was awesome.

Also, they lost last night, but this Mariners team is magic and fun.

Mariners fans can't be thrilled in retrospect that J-Rod hit 81 HRs in the Derby on Monday night and then couldn't go last night with left wrist soreness. Maybe those aren't connected but I am guessing they are.

Supposedly the injury happened before the Derby, fwiw. I agree with the overall point, though.

Seattle drops their first two out of the gate without J-Rod, and 11 of their next 18 games are against Houston and New York. Add in the Red Sox falling apart, and Cleveland can definitely make a jump up in the Wild Card race.

Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado will not make the trip to Toronto for the Cardinals' upcoming two-game series due to their vaccination status.

Yeah I’m kind of rooting for Toronto to make it to WS if we don’t. Even though I hate them

(But not as much as MFY or MFRays)

Weird. I thought I’d read they were one of the teams who made the threshold last year, guess those two must have been in the other 15% (or whatever)! I was starting to warm to this version of the Cardinals, too, should’ve known.

Yeah, Johan Oviedo has to fly to Miami to get that cleared up at the Cuban colsolate before he can fly up to Toronto. It's amazing how bad teams can be at this stuff.

Steven Kwan's 9th inning home run today was the first of the season for (1) a Cleveland left fielder and (2) from the lead off spot in their lineup. It only took them 94 games… and they have yet to get a home run from a center fielder this year.

Kody Clemens (rookie non-pitcher) now has more relief appearances (3) than his dad Roger had in his whole career (2).

This is anecdotal, and I haven't done the research, but I feel like a lot more players are tagging up from first this season. Has anyone else noticed this?

Outfielders have started playing farther back the last couple of seasons to cut off doubles. Maybe this is a function of that.

Probably a combination of that and shifts putting infielders out of position. Not that second is going uncovered necessarily, but even runners threatening to tag up and advance can cause the infielders to scramble (maybe have a 3B covering second) and create a greater chance of a defensive misplay. Kind of in the same vein as runners looking to pop up and go to third on a play at second because the infield is shifted and third base might be uncovered.

It could also be a result of the ball being dead. More balls are dying on the warning track and teams have a need to try and take more chances to generate runs.

Marlins pitcher Daniel Castano is a tough dude. He just took a line drive right to the side of the head (104 EV) and eventually got up and walked back to the dugout.

Trey Mancini just had what is likely his last home AB as an Oriole, BAL up 1-0 in the 8th against TB with a runner on. He hit a ball to Josh Lowe who lost it in the sun, and Mancini came around and scored, generously ruled an inside-the-park home run.
I wonder about that part. It makes sense to trade him from a logical standpoint, but e seems like the guy who you do deal him could derail the clubhouse and what they have going this year. Tough, tough call to make

Yeah, the Oriole announcers are saying the same thing right now, but rumors are he is very close to going to the Mets.

I'm not even an O's fan and I might cry if Mancini gets traded while they are in the WC race. I know they are a year ahead of schedule, and probably weren't planning on being in it at this point, but man, that dude deserves a playoff shot with that team.

Felix Bautista (BAL’s 8th inning guy) is pitching as well as any reliever in baseball right now, touching 100 with sick off-speed stuff. His last 8 games:

8.2 1 0 0 0 14

SEA are 17-4 in their last 21, 0-4 against HOU and 17-0 against everyone else.

He’s lucky he didn’t get hurt, assuming he didn’t get hurt.
