I would put money down on at least one of the 24 teams not playing at all.

Edit: Fine, I will. $25 to the charity of the winner. Mine's https://www.commonjustice.org/

Terms: 1 of the current 24 teams in the play-in or already qualified is forced to withdraw not due to game losses but due to a covid outbreak or quarrantine. If all teams are eliminated during hockey, $25 from me to your charity.

After seeing two teams pull out of the MLS is Back tournament that's not a wild position. But charity is always good!

Game times are out. Bruins play an exhibition vs. Columbus on the 30th at 7:00, Philly on 8/2 at 3:00, Tampa on 8/5 at 4:00, and Washington on 8/8 is still TBA. 4 of the first 5 days there’s games on from Noon until 1:30 AM EST. Unbelievably awesome.

My vacation starts on July 31st. We were supposed to go to Vermont but can’t because of Covid. I may not leave my living room all week and be happy.

Am I alone in being uncomfortable with this whole situation? I'm really wrestling with whether to sign up for YouTube TV (it's the easiest way to get NESN/NHL for me) and watch or not.

I don't believe it's safe yet, despite what seem to be fairly well thought-through plans. I believe financial interests are far and away the driving forces. I'm not particularly comfortable supporting any league trying to reopen right now.

Tell me I'm over-reacting, I might agree with you.

Cassidy says both Pasta and Kase aren’t in good enough shape to practice. That’s very disappointing to me that they didn’t come ready to play.
I think you are misinterpreting that. The league set guidelines that teams are not allowed to give indications of why a player isn't available so that they don't divulge Covid-19 test results. "Unfit to play" is how they are directed to respond when a player is not available for a practice. Could be an injury, positive test result, or potential exposure to someone with Covid symptoms / positive test result.

The players have financial interests as well, especially the end of the bench guys, so it's not completely one-sided.

You're right. It's very complicated. I don't mean to be a negative ned on everything.

I hear you, but at the same time I think that sports returning will ease some of the mental health burdens being put on the country as well, so I am thankful that the leagues are doing whatever they can to get back to action, even more so because we know it is dangerous. I am hopeful that the procedures and policies put in place will make it as safe as possible for the players and coaches involved.

You're not alone in this. I'm very apprehensive about this, despite being happy seeing this current incarnation of the Bruins play for the Cup and playoff hockey receiving the spotlight it deserves. Between the players themselves, staffers, officials, TV production crews, etc... that's a lot of people placed into a risky situation all for the sake of playing a game. We know the potential lethality of the disease, but severe infections of COVID can cause permanent cardiovascular damage that can easily end a playing career.

I hope it all works out without any problems, but it's still an unnecessary risk to take.

Not really news, but this was a fun article about how different the sounds could be with the empty arenas. I'm really excited to maybe be able to hear the coaches and the player communications that we didn't really get to hear before, though I'm not sure how much of it the pumped in noise (on the TV only, weird) will prevent us from hearing stuff.

If you’ve ever gone to some sparsely populated college games, it is a very very different sound. It’ll be interesting to see how the pro game sounds in an empty arena.

For those who have cut the cord, what are your plans for watching as much hockey as possible. We just cut over a month ago. Is NHL.TV the best bet for everything? They have the qualifying round for 4.99 w/ local and national blackouts. I have a VPN so I can 'be' somewhere else in order to get the Bruins. Curious what will be a national blackout, I'm guessing all the games on NBC? Maybe it's worth doing a HULU Live / YouTube TV free trial for the first week to avoid any blackouts?

I've used YouTube TV on and off for sports for a couple of years now, and plan to sign up again in a week or so.

If you know anyone in the Boston area who will lend you their cable log-in, you can probably download the NESN app and watch the Bruins games and the NBC Sports app for everything else.

Antenna would probably get you all the NBC games no problem.

Great point. Hadn't even thought of that even though I just set one up for my folks. One issue I have is the receiver is buried in a media closet. Not sure what I'll pick up from in there. Worth a shot though.

I would hope that peacock would have it. It says they'll have live sports and this is theirs, so I would hope so. If someone reminds me to check during the early minutes of the first game, I can do so.

Ugly divorce happening between the Coyotes and John Chayka.

View: https://twitter.com/friedgehnic/status/1287512260320145408?s=21

Long story short, new owners in Arizona. They like Chayka. They get a few requests from other teams to talk him. They initially decline them, but eventually let him talk to a vaunted mystery team. Mystery team drops a “offer he can’t refuse” on Chayka. All hell breaks loose. Chayka says he has terminated his contract with Arizona. Arizona is pissed and calling him a quitter. Likely heading to some kind of arbitration.

The contrast of the NHL vs MLB in terms of covid is surprising, but also not surprising. I might have been completely wrong about hockey if they can keep the bubble going.

On Chayka: I admit this is speculation, but probably not wild: He is 31. He was GM at 26 after being an AGM for 1 year and running an anlytics company for one year. I think the Coyote's saw "analytics" as a buzzword on his resume and put him in a position he was no where near ready to occupy and do well at. I could see this as him backing out of a position he feels very negatively about to get a lesser one at a different organization where he feels he'll do a better job. This doesn't mean he'll never be a good GM, but I think its clear he isn't one now. I think Arizona gave him permission to talk because they mistakenly thought that he would never take a demotion, when that's what he was looking to do.

Just a follow up here to what was posted in the cut the cord thread, but locast.org seems to be a great answer for network TV. Got the app on my firestick and watching the Sox on FOX right now.
