As soon as all slots are paid, I'll run the random for the draft order. Thanks!

Original post:

For July, we'll be breaking a 2021 Topps Stadium Club 16 hobby box case (2,048 total cards - I see a lot of sorting in my near future).

Details on Stadium Club can be found here:
https://www.blowoutcards.com/sports-cards/baseball-cards/2021/2021-topps-stadium-club-baseball-hobby-16-box-case.html
http://www.blowoutcards.net/images/ss/21tpstadiumclubBB.pdf

It's a 300 card base set with 2 autos per box (so 32 total autos in break)

Cost: $74 per slot (includes shipping and supplies)

Format: Team Draft (randomized order) with 2 options. You can wait to see what team you draft before choosing which option you want.

Option 1:
  • You get *all* cards from the team you drafted

Option 2:
  • You get all *hits* from the team you drafted (autos, inserts, parallels, rookie cards).
  • Plus you get one each of any veteran base cards from the team you drafted
  • Doubles of veteran base cards go into a communal pot that is distributed evenly among everyone who chooses Option 2.
  • So, you would end up with all hits from your team, one each of veteran base cards from your team, and you'd get your equal share of all of the veteran base doubles from everyone who selects Option 2
The idea behind Option 2 is to give you the choice to get more variety of base cards instead of landing 10 copies of Josh Donaldson. I hope I explained it well, but ask questions if you have them.

When: I can break as soon as signups, payments, and team draft is complete, with a target of 7/10 or 7/17. I'll be in CT from 7/22-8/2, so if we don't break by the 17th, it'll be when I get back.

Once we have 30 slots filled and paid, I'll randomize the slots 3x at random.org. We can then draft in this thread, so everyone doesn't have to be online at the same time.

I'll do it live on Youtube again, and it will be available after if you can't catch it live.

Cards will ship within a couple of days after the break. Hits will be in penny sleeves and toploaders. Everything else will be bagged. All will ship securely in a box or padded envelope.

1. Post in this thread to let me know you are signing up. One slot per person for the moment, but indicate if you would buy more than 1 slot if we are short of 30 participants. (I'm putting @deanx0 down for 2 slots as promised from the last thread).

2. I will post instructions for payment once we have 30 slots filled.

3. Please subscribe to this thread if you are participating

Let me know if there are questions.

In and vote option 2. I ended up with 4-5 bad cars if each Sox player in the Finest which I am working on gifting to friends and family.

I bought a hobby box of this last week and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Some examples of the great photos below. I got a 1/1 Ohtani gold rainbow parallel insert. Looking forward to getting more cards in this as it might be the first product I try to complete the set since I was a kid.
What would we do with the box toppers? Those are trickier to ship

In for Option 2 please.
My dad would like in (not on SoSH) so if there is room for a 2nd slot, please let me know.

In, always in PE. Will take multiple spots if need be, and option #2 is fine by me, but don't need any commons anyway....

I just want to say between Secret Santa, The Poker Group and this Card Break stuff, this turbulent year has been made so much better by this board and everyone that makes it so special.

As far as I can tell they are photo variations. Doesn't necessarily look like Short Prints, per se, but variants on the base card.

Edit: Seems like Base II is a photo variation, and Base III is the 30th Anniversary Design Variation.

Yes, I believe this is correct. The odds of the variations (AKA short prints) are listed in the link as well.

If Option 2 is decided upon, which it appears to be, @PortageeExpress may have a more difficult time sorting, as these variations definitely qualify as hits. Although the chances of getting doubles of short prints are probably pretty low, even for a case.

To clarify, individuals can opt in or out of option 2. It doesn't have to be a group decision. If they opt out, they get all cards for their team and those that opt in to 2 will split their (base veteran, non-hit) doubles.

Yes, sorting will be a bit time consuming, but I can rely on the CMP codes to ensure accuracy.

Picked up a couple packs of these today, and got 15 shit cards and an absolutely beautiful Willie Mays base card. Definately a nice set.

Can I make a couple suggestions?

1.) I think Portagee should get to keep the oversize card. Least we could do.
2.) Wonder if we should divide the kitty 29 ways instead of 30, to let one member get a Rockies/Diamondbacks combo? Good lord, those two teams are terrible in this set -- combined they're still way worse than whatever is third worst.

Alternative: for all those participating in Option 2, try to shim out the distribution of the doubles so everyone nets as close as possible to the same total number of cards. So if the team with the most hits gets, say 30 cards, they don't get anymore distribution until everyone has 30 cards. And the second most has 28 cards wouldn't get any more until everyone has 28. And so on... Could be rough to give the Angels or Yankees the same amount of the kitty as the Rockies or Diamondbacks.

Obviously, #2 would add a few bucks to everyone else's cost, but if you think of that as "not me" insurance, seems like a no-brainer. I'd be down.

As for the oversized card, whatever.

The last suggestion is nice, but seems like it would add even more work for Portagee, which might lead to us all getting additional DNA samples from him shedding more of his prodigious arm hair. I'd say his call on that one for sure.

If everyone is good with adding ~$2 to the slot cost as "not me" insurance, I'm good with with capping the list at 29. If anyone feels strongly that we should do 30 instead, let's discuss.

For the oversized cards, I appreciate the suggestion. If anyone hits one and doesn't want it, I'll gladly keep it, but I think they are a cool part of the break - by default I will ship them to whoever hits them.
