Yea considering the enormous injury risk to all pitchers these days, I'm guessing the Sox have done their biomechanics/pitching health homework on this one.

Still think I would've rather had that power bat though.

I don't know much about these guys at all, but based on what I've read here I'm glad they didn't go Gatewood but I do want Reed.

They must see something projectible in Kopech.  The ultimate upside for a pitcher with that size and body is this:

I'm not at all suggesting that he will turn out to be near as good as this former 3rd round pick of the Indians.  However, his deceptive unorthodox delivery reminded me of this Sox (Indians and A's) Hall of Famer.  This kid seems to have great gas and a good Yakker.

Harold Reynolds likes Gatewood's "presentation of the glove. Because other kids have it just flopping all over the place."

Yup. That's some high-level scouting work there.

Depends what they offer him, though. Maybe they have a pre-draft agreement of some kind with Kopech?
Kopech wasn't really a reach though. He has a big arm and is probably (at least) slot.

Shit. The Phils just took LHP Matt Imhof out of Cal Poly. I was hoping he'd stick until the Sox pick.

Nick Burdi, fireballing closer from Louisville, goes to the Twins.
He has the shortest follow though I've ever seen for someone who throws that hard. Really unbelievable.

Jays get Reid-Foley. Helluva a draft for them so far.
given his demands, could they really sign him without going way over the cap?

Looks like DLowe will be announcing the Sox' next pick. Here he is with their area amateur scout for Southern California, Jim Woodward.

Really impressed by what the Brew Crew have done so far.

Patrick Ebert ‏@PGPatrickEbert
#Brewers going with big-time upside picks in a trio of @PGAllAmerican's, Kodi Medeiros, Jacob Gatewood & Monte Harrison is a big haul

Can't wait for the questions I'm about to get from Yankees fans asking if their pick will be up in July or really suck & only be up in Sept.

Look at it this way. The Yankees cut out the middle man.

The middle man being the hot starting pitcher prospect who ends up being a bullpen guy. Joba, Hughes and Betances were big time SP prospects at one point but their best flashes for them were in the pen - then Hughes got hot as a starter on some other team.

So why take a starter if you're NY when they're ceiling is reliever anyway?

His slider's pretty ridiculous, too. But we'll see how it translates at higher levels.

The Brewers traditionally get ripped by the experts for their drafting and farm system, but it appears they got it right this year thus far

Why don't they have these guys do the 1st round?  Much more fun than watching Selig announce every one of them and mess up basic words and years.

Jake or J.B. Bukauskus is still out there, highly regarded RHP - high school kid.

Keith Law has him at #29, BA has him as #33, MLB has him at #38.

Flame thrower, potential bullpen guy/closer

Sent out letters to teams telling them he won't sign
