Better points % getting a win for ties is a pretty solid advantage for the crappy round robin for the top 4 seeds. That'll make it interesting seeing the lower seeded team have to pull the goalie in a tie game.

Maybe I’m reading it wrong, but I think the tie breaker comes into play with regards to the final round robin standings, not the individual games?

Bruins are horrible in shootout so it's still a positive. Bruins could probably afford one tie and still get top seed

My biggest concern is that this is going to take too long. There will be a couple outbreaks, they'll have to pause things, and they won't be able to get this finished before the second spike in the fall. Then they're blowing up next season.

Eh, they can always hold a shorter regular season in 2020-21. Which in and of itself wouldn't be a terrible thing anyway.
I think the assumption is they won't have a regular 2021 season. Thought they were talking about starting in December, hopefully get this season completed before "second wave" then start 2021 after second wave subsides. That could wreak havoc on the salary cap for the next few seasons though I guess the SEA franchise coming in 2021-22 could help?

I don’t think either the NBA or NHL are in a hurry to return this fall because they’re hoping that by waiting for Christmas or January, they can play a normal season with fans just pushed back 2-3 months.

Ideally, there’s a vaccine in some phase of production by September. But if not, there will at least be more certainty as we progress into September/Oct.

I got a text from my Leaf fan friend. This week is the first time the Toronto Maple Leafs, in their 102 year history, have been in contention during the month of June.

My favorite Ballard story cane I think from Marek. Ballard used to be in all the team photos with his dog. One of the years it took a long time. The dog wasn’t neutered and, well, I’ll let you all finish this one off...

Phase 2 starts June 8th, so it appears they finally got clearance from Canada to start this process.

Excited for hockey to potentially return, but I remain a little skeptical they can pull it all off. I wonder if they’ve figured out the second city yet, or if they will just do everything in Vegas like the NBA is doing in Orlando.

Believe they are sticking to 2 sites. They have another week or two to announce them. Most think Vegas will be one, but I’m still curious about how they’d figure out practice ice for 12 teams.

Phase 2 starts on Monday which means players can return to their team city and work out and skate in small groups at the team facilities. Warrior will be open. Cassidy said he’s hearing a speculative date of 7/10 as training camps opening.

This may point towards a January start date.

The US should have 100 million doses of one candidate Covid-19 vaccine by the end of the year, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, said Tuesday.

“Then, by the beginning of 2021, we hope to have a couple hundred million doses,” Fauci said during a live question and answer session with the Journal of the American Medical Association.

This is me being a cynic, but I think a second wave totally shuts down sports and causes full quarantines again within the next 2 months. I think there are too many people that see $$$ (not in just sports) and will cut corners to get back, and enough of those will lead to a systemic re-failure.

Vegas has I think 4 or 5 skating rinks that they can use, so I think they should be able to have enough practice time, assuming games are staggered a bit

Leafs were pretty consistant about winning those two round tournaments, eh?
hell of a lot more than the Bs managed .

Just sayin’

Mind you, I was just a kid when the Leafs won 4 cups in the sixties so I’m certainly not revelling in past heroics. Still , a glorious - if distant - past is better than none at all. I don’t think the number of rounds particularly diminishes the accomplishments .. the rules were the same for everyone.

How many Cups have the Bruins won in the past sixty odd years? Sure the Bruins played three rounds in 70 and 72 .. but, the last round was rigged as it was against the expansion conference( in 70)

So .. one Cup since ?

And the Bruins weren’t cursed with Harold Fucking Ballard for twenty years.

The Leafs should have made the final in 93 - setting up a glorious matchup (nightmare for the League) against the Habs. The NHL decided they wanted the Gretzky lead Kings instead ( no .. I’m not bitter , not at all .. hope Kerry Fraser enjoyed his payoff)

So Eastern Teams in Vegas and Western Teams in Toronto so the home clubs don't derive home ice advantage, right?
They’ve said they would try to not have a team play in their own city. Key word is try. It’s more of a perception thing. Vegas and Toronto would have to live in the bubble. It’s not like they’d be able to stay in their own homes during this. Plus the games will be played in an empty rink without fans. As a Bruins, I’d prefer to avoid going to Toronto but it is not like they’d be playing in a sold-out Scotiabank Arena. (The Toronto home crowd is also mostly suits anyway).

The league also said they didn’t care about East/West too much, but I can’t see them flipping coasts. It doesn’t make sense from a TV standpoint. They could probably get away with a central time zone for either hub, but the East teams playing in the Pacific time zone and the West teams in the East time zone seems to make no sense.

About time, though I'm not sure the Senior Vice President of Business Administration in the same organization is the game changer they need.

Woof to that video of the Tampa Bay players hanging out with their Jetskis in hindsight.

The Phillies, Blue Jays, and Lightning have all shut down their facilities due to positive tests.

From NHL GM's meeting, Post has learned that training camp is set for two weeks, with teams traveling to respective hub city on July 23 or 24 before playing one exhibition game. The Stanley Cup tournament that begins with qualifying rounds is scheduled to begin on July 30. Other info: Teams will be permitted to bring 30 skaters plus an unlimited number of goaltenders to camp, and 28 skaters plus unlimited GT for tournament. Players on IR do not count against limit.
