Let the pack ripping commence! (Whenever PE wants)
Thanks all - that was surprisingly more efficient than I expected.

I'm tentatively planning on breaking on Friday, 6/18 at 8pm EDT. Link to live stream will be posted in this thread, and I'll confirm the start time (or reschedule) by Friday afternoon.

I can't wait to see what's in the boxes!

DotB is going to make out like a bandit and we all should hate him for it. It still be will be awesome to see some of the pulls he gets. I would have liked to see the Twins drop down to my slot, cause I give twins stuff as gifts for xmas, birthday's etc. I figured there was no chance of that happening though. Thats ok though cause I have a ton sitting in my gun safe anyway.

Sorry about that. With their rookies, plus possible Carew and Hrbek autos, they seemed like the best choice at the time.

But maybe we can work out a three-team deal where you get the Twins, DotB gets the Indians, and I take the Angels...

HA! Love the idea. No, I'm not upset about how it turned out. It will still be fun.

Edit: oh, it would be cool if you pulled a Carew auto. Herby really isnt that impressive to me.

Seriously. Anyone getting the Angels in this set has no reason to complain. The odds of NOT hitting a bomb ass card are low!
Believe me, I've done thousands of card breaks over the years, and the odds don't always work out. And in a lot of those breaks, if you wanted a team like the Angels, you paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars, while a team like the DBacks basically cost pennies (and would usually be bought by someone in the break who just wanted the damn thing to happen). Obviously, the odds are better, but almost nobody in any break should feel like they have no shot until the last box is opened.

That's interesting. Out of curiosity, how often is a set so crazy top-heavy for one team/player?

And the bolded kinda supports my point, no? lol

Instead of Friday, I'm going to break on Saturday 6/19 at 8pm EDT. Link to YouTube stream will be added to this thread prior to 8pm Saturday.

Also, my target for shipping will be Monday 6/21. Everything will be shipped USPS first class. I will send each of you a PM with tracking info as soon as I ship. If anyone wants me to require a signature for delivery, please let me know by Sunday morning.

If you hit a high dollar card (say eBay sold listings > $250 or so), I'll reach out directly before shipping in case you want some other delivery service, etc. Insurance on cards is tricky, as USPS doesn't insure non-graded or appraised cards for delivery unless they are part of a commercial transaction.

Almost every set is going to be top heavy to an extent. For example, any sets with rookie Zion Williamson cards is going to make the Pelicans super expensive. Usually, it's about the rookies that year, but the Angels are the rare exception because of Trout and Ohtani, who have massive followings here and in Japan and their cards have value even in non-rookie years.

Oh, I get that. But how often are sets so focused on one guy, such that there's 10x as many valuable cards for him as any other team?

I mean Trout is basically the undisputed kind of this generation. And sets need some kind of selling point besides just rookie cards.

I imagine in a few years we probably see Tatis anchoring sets.

King, but OK.

It has literally been over a year since I could walk in to a store and buy a random pack of football or baseball cards. I don't think "selling points" are a huge concern.

In any event, I'm gonna try to ask my question (which is an earnest one) one more time:

Lol autocorrect police out in full force. Sorry, officer.

I’ll let someone else answer because I don’t have the historical data of team weighting across all card sets over the last 20 years.

I would imagine that a set that advertises a special Trout collection as the big pulls being Angels-heavy wouldn’t be surprising, but here we are.

The Trout die-cut subset is the main difference between Trout and some other players in this set. Alec Bohm has 5 cards. Other than the die-cut (and the 1 of 1 variations of the same), Trout has 6.

Player-specific subsets aren't uncommon. There was a Bellinger highlights subset in 2021 Series 1 cards sold at Target; 2021 Heritage has a Clemente subset. The difference here is that Finest is a small set of cards, and the subset is of the best player in the game.

So, it is a bit of a perfect storm of: small set with a decent number of autographs, player-specific subset, plus that player being Trout. Add to that Ohtani, and to a lesser degree Adell, and the Angels expected value is greater than other teams.

I'd say that perfect storm is rare. I can't think of a similar recent scenario (but I had been away from cards for a while until recently). Though, deathofthebambino's point is true - in every set there's a team or two (or players) that can lead to some crazy break pricing. I was in a player auction for a 12 box Bowman break. I got Jeter Down for $50. Austin Martin went for $1,160

The 1 of 1 cards are like Willy Wonka's golden tickets. I don't expect to see one, but it would be very cool if we did.

That was a really fun product to break. More action than the Bowman and even the base cards are sweet looking. Not such a high end product that lots of people get skunked. Seemed like the perfect product for 90 minutes of entertainment. I was looking to buy a Dalbec auto anyway so I’m a happy camper.

Thanks again PE.

I agree completely. It's a nice looking, fun product with plenty of hits to go around. Thank you to all who joined - I had a blast.

On a side note, this is what it looks like when your breaker forgets his trash can:

Sorry I couldn't get on live, but just watched. Between the auto numbered to /5 and non-auto numbered to /8, that will be known as the Jo Adell break. Didn't see that coming when I got the Angels. Some other great hits in there too, the Hayes auto, the Eddie Murray, the Mize auto /25, the Tatis insert to /50....Good break.

Thanks again PE. As always, count me in any time you feel like doing it again.

Wow I got super-lucky with that Mize hit! That Adell is hawt, an orange /25 recently sold for $202, and there's the 1/5 numbered listed now.

Can't wait for the next one...1988 Donruss????

PortageeExpress these are so fun to watch. I stayed up late after a long day to catch the whole replay!

As a fan of Ke'Bryan Hayes I couldn't be happier!

Thank you as always.

@PortageeExpress auto add me to future breaks as well. It’s a lot of fun to watch these with my son.

The cards are secondary. It doesn’t matter if I get a hit. I’ve already won.
