Katie Nolan: somebody should make a thread about her

I saw a short bit from Gillis on IG that was fucking hilarious, so I checked out his special on Netflix. Man, is he a terrible comic. I'm okay with politically incorrect humor, but he seems to be doing constantly and very intentionally, at the expense of all else. His biggest sin is that he simply isn't funny. The one IG clip I happened to see (which was politically incorrect, BTW) was the only thing I laughed at. He's like a Rogan turned up to 11. Also, terrible stage presence.
His Austin hour (YouTube) is the best special anyone has put out in years.

Yeah, that is Shane Gillis. He got canned because of bits he was doing on a podcast.

The stuff that he was fired from SNL for is basically PG content compared to Legion of Skanks
Soder is a really funny dude. As someone else mentioned upthread, he's also very close to Mike McDaniel.

Kind of a tangent that might be only interesting to me but
The group of comedians that Soder hangs out with (Big Jay Oakerson, Tim Dillon, Legion of Skanks, Shane Gillis, etc) are all pretty..not politically correct (to put it nicely) and while Nolan was working for ESPN, she was definitely someone who would go on rants and tirades against these types of people in sports. Wonder how she squares all of that away.
As a listener of the Bonfire (Big Jay and Dan), I enjoyed Gillis’ appearances (honestly some of the best episodes) and the topic rarely went towards politics. Helps that I grew up 20 miles from Shane and Sheetz/Wawa references are easy ways to earn my affection. The LoS crew could be funny/entertaining (Luis J Gomez) others I found just unfunny and arrogant (Dave Smith). That’s just when they are on the bonfire. I never bothered with LoS or Tim Dillon because they also seemed too Sternesque pornstars squirting in cups or far more political, and I’m just not looking for that in light-hearted podcasts (not sure that best describes it but I’m typing from my phone on my recliner, covered by a blanket, cat on my lap, still sick from COVID and that’s the best i can do).

Dan left the bonfire and I think it’s gotten far worse. Dan was the moderating influence on that show. Bobby Kelly took his place, Jay’s now free to do all porn and sex kink deep-dives all the time. I stopped listening a few weeks ago when Jay brought up Bill Maher’s bit on gender studies courses at universities and Bobby went on a rant how he doesn’t want his kid to go to college because they indoctrinate kids and teach them to hate America. As a blanket statement. It was just so stupid and ignorant, clearly said in anger, and not meant to be a joke or funny.

I saw Shane Gillis open up for Soder at Laugh Boston back in 2019. I liked Soder and had heard him on podcasts and social media clips. I had no idea who Gillis was.

Shane crushed that night - became a big fan on the spot. I am glad that he is having a moment now after the SNL debacle.

Against a couple of NY/NJ actors too. Let's go Katie! Then Lexington's Rachel Dratch is in the last semifinal 1/16.

She advanced to the finals with some shrewd daily doubles plays. Good stuff!
It was very strange to see a "Triple Jeopardy", but it was an hour-long show. Good thing, because Katie earned like half her dollar amount on the daily doubles the last round.

That caught me during her first appearance, when she had a runaway after Double Jeopardy and I assumed it was over. Then they started Triple Jeopardy which let Detective Stabler back in the game. I like the extra round. Between that and the hour long run time, it lets the contestants have fun and banter a bit and still be able to run the whole board each round. I always get frustrated watching regular Jeopardy when they leave clues on the board.

I had a sinking feeling the Kimmel promotion at the start of the show was a spoiler. Turned out to be right. Bummer.
Exactly, I was like WTF. I was hoping maybe they wanted to interview SOMEONE from the finale and Rocca or Nolan turned down Kimmel, especially when Walter was 3rd place going into Final Jeopardy. Maybe just say Kimmel to have the winner of Celebrity Jeopardy on that promotion, then add the name at 9pm.

She got screwed on the five-letter lobster preparation. “Poach” was a great answer, but only “steam” was accepted.

On the other hand, they gave her “Ouiji” when the answer is “Ouija”.
