He's going to be disappointed when he finds out there's not enough snow on Lake Minnetonka to go snow-mobiling this year.

(apparently he was notorious for late-night snowmobiling parties).

They need to strip Saunders of his GM duties before he ruins the Andrew Wiggins era. This deal means they would have essentially traded a 2015 number 1 pick for KG (via Thad Yong).

Trading the pick (which is via Miami and top-10 protected) for Young was probably a bad idea, but it's a sunk cost at this point so hanging onto Young just to prove he was right would be foolish.

I suspect this isn't good news for our future draft picks, is it?

It's neutral, imo. Young is versatile and athletic defensively, but he can't shoot and his offense is limited if you don't have an up-tempo team, which Brooklyn is not.

He could be a good complement to Joe Johnson, the latter of whom isn't exactly known for his defense.

He also has an opt-out in his contract, which he will obviously exercise. If the first round pick was so valuable, then the bad move was trading it for Young in the first place (but trading a late round pick to gamble on Young is a fair gamble). They basically traded something that was not going to have any value for the franchise going forward for a fan favorite. I don't see it as a basketball ops vs. marketing move; Young was a goner who they traded for someone that will likely get the attention of former fans that haven't paid attention in years.

And that said, why would having Garnett around be bad for a team trying to groom young players into NBA regulars? Coming into this week, Young was the oldest starter on the team. I can't see a veteran presence being a bad thing for a rebuilding team.

I actually like this trade -- from a basketball perspective -- for the Wolves.  Gives them a pretty decent big man rotation, assuming Pekovic can stay healthy.

They still can't score worth a damn but that was going to be the case anyways.

KG has been absolute grade A garbage for the Nets.  This is a pure financial move on the Wolves' end.  They get a little worse ensuring they stay in the top 3 pick area while selling a ton more tickets/merchandise the rest of the season/next couple seasons and get to sell the KG mentoring Wiggins/their young players storyline.  Definitely worthwhile for them since Thad Young was gone anyways after this season.

Didn't Young cost them a #1 pick as well? So, a #1 for KG?

No they didn't trade a #1 for KG. The #1 for Young was a sunk cost and he was playing out the string prior to becoming a FA. He was essentially an expiring deal that brought KG back to Minny which I'm very surprised he agreed to based on his prior relationship with Taylor. No way this gets done without Saunders.

Saunders has really badly mishandled things in Minny. He seems like the kind of guy who might flip Wiggins for a couple of veterans.

This is kind of off topic, but how did KG make so much more money than Kobe? He was only drafted the year before Kobe, so did they restructure salaries that year (or the year before Kobe became a free agent)? KG was making $19mm in in 00-01, and Kobe didn't make that until 07-08.

Was able to become free agent after 3 years. Compound theory after that and CBA changed in '99 IIRC.

Yep; Garnett signed his contract before the lockout. Incidentally, said contract was part of the reason why the (other) owners initiated the lockout in the first place.

I saw that today, almost seems choreographed, with the kids trying to get a reluctant Dad out of his seat, only for him to have been wearing the body paint the whole time. Great video though, and KG's reaction is priceless.
