I find Mut awful personally.

I, at times, like this show. I grew to like this show during deflategate. I actually think Kirk and Gerry when they are interested in a sports discussion or even a non sports topic to be usually knowledgeable on the subject. They clearly are well read on the subject and can articulate their opinions in an interesting way. Now do I agree with them usually? Nope. Is it biased toward their typical point of view? Absolutely. But those occurrences are happening less and less.

My problem with this show is every day I have to hear about the drama of the casting couch, it’s especially worse when Mut is on. They haven’t lost me as a listener yet. But I’m almost there I think.

Wait, it’s back? He beat it a decade ago, but I thought he was just sick now. I barely ever listen, but I heard him during SB week and he sounded terrible.
I don’t know if it’s back. His voice permantly changed after going thru treatments. It’s been raspy/gravely ever since. If it’s returned I’d expect he’ll keep it private until he can’t.

The funny thing is I actually listen to K&C and never Sports Hub, the difference is I'm a grown man and I don't attach my identity to my radio heroes and parrot their talking points when they get in trouble for peddling racist garbage.
Do you think that makes you special? Or maybe the rest of us are the same. We're all (allegedly) grown men here and nobody has a radio hero.

I could be wrong as I don’t listen to them much Mutt seems like a pretty good host and decent person, at least since his DUI which seems to have been a wake up call. I enjoy Mutt and Keefe at 6.
Mut tries too hard to be Kirk Lite. Only thing is he's legitmatly too stupid to pull it off. He's tolorable in small doses, for me.

As much as I like the show I agree the casting couch drama gets old. And as a big Rich Keefe guy I shake my head at Kirk and his issues with him.

I really like how they hold stupid people accountable for their outrageous takes on sports or just Boston in general. They go at columnists for moronic statments, hold nothing back when attacking BSPN, etc. It's a great show when they get away from the drama. People also have this misconception that Gerry and Kirk are alike politically. I've heard them agree one day and then be at each others throat the next.

Maybe you should try posting about something other than Kirk or radio in general. It will enhance the cover story. 20 posts with nothing in other forums or on other subjects becomes suspicious after a while. Maybe pile on in a JD Martinez thread? Just helpful advice, not a provocation.

I don't listen to the morning show, but does Kirk really have a problem with Keefe? He is by far the best person on EEI in my opinion. The Sports Hub really screwed up by not putting him in third chair with Felger and Mazz. Or he should have had his own night show instead of Adam Jones.

Kirk trashes Keefe every chance he can get. He makes fun of the way he talks mostly,. And the fact that he likes to talk sports. But, really, he trashes pretty much every other radio personality any chance he gets. So, it's hard to tell what's a bit and what isn't.

That he thinks he's God's gift to doing radio is just one of the many things that is obnoxious about him.

Yea Keefe is pretty good. I'll listen in to Dale and Holley (and Keefe) and then Mut while Keefe stays on from what i recall the few times i was in the car around that time. Otherwise i've abandoned the morning show and the mid day show. I don't need to start a day with some angry people trashing whatever they can get their hands on.

Minihane did a pair of podcasts with Thornton and Keefe during the afternoon show's transition. Before Keefe took over, Thornton was his main punching bag, then they did a podcast together and got along like old friends. Keefe had a similar interview a few weeks later. I think it's safe to call any "feud" within the station exaggerated. Although, the stuff with John Dennis was very real and he ended up quitting, so it's tough to say that with certainty.

I don't need "advice" on how utilize an internet message board. I've been using the old interwebs for quite some time now. Years, even!

The Keefer madness intro has a great clip of (I assume) Minihane screaming that he hates Keefe. I don't think that would be in there if it was a legit sore point between them.

Shirley Leung wrote in the paper that she has been listening to WEEI and contacting every advertiser to “explain themselves.”
Did she contact them as a consumer or as a member of the Globe, either way I don't have an issue with it? If K&C and the rest of the station want to spew their garbage then they need to face the consequences and stand by their words and actions, not cry foul when someone decides to stand up to them.

In fact, how is this different than when Kirk stood outside the 98.5 studios during the Felger and Mazz show?

No one should have an issue with this (I'm not saying that you do, HB) because this is how journalism works. You get an idea for a story and you make calls about it. Sometimes those calls can have a few difficult questions, like the one that Leung asked the EEI sponsors. But it's really no different than Peter Abraham asking Cora why he bunted into an out during the seventh inning with JDM and Mookie coming up. Or one of the Pats guys asking Belichick why Malcom Butler didn't play in the Super Bowl.

Gerry Callahan is a newspaper man, he should have known this and probably should have hipped Minihane to the job responsibilities of a reporter/columnist. But of course he didn't, because he sucks.

I'm sure the reactions of the morning show hosts had nothing at all to do with the fact that the reporter making trouble for them was a woman not of Anglo descent. It would be very unmanly not to get huffy about it.

To be fair, they constantly attack Chad Finn as well
Get ready for this today. Rich just tweeted out the ratings and said they were #1 across a bunch of segments. Soon will be Chad's column with the numbers and no matter what they are he'll get attacked. It fascinates me every time. The numbers are what they are and Chad presents them in what pretty much amounts to a press release (no offense intended to Chad). Then K&C listeners attack him either for lying and being biased for the Hub if they're #2 or for not going far enough in his praise and saying how mad he must be if they're #1. Like clockwork

Anything that runs counter to their beliefs are unmitigated lies. Anything that supports their beliefs is unassailable truth.

This is their programming.

We might not hear from Chad until the full winter book is released. However, if they did beat WEEI by 21% in men 25-54 even without including the WVEI simulcast, they likely won the month regardless as it does not comprise a large number of listeners. Tellingly, WEEI has not fired back on its Twitter account. Also, they can no longer exclude WBZ's streaming to pad their stats.

Yeah, Kirk usually responds immediately to dispute the ratings claims and still not a peep from him or the K&C twitter feed. This tells me the numbers are probably credible.

Chad doesn’t have access to numbers outside of the full book I believe because of costs.

I’m actually shocked that WEEI didn’t do well with all the pissant stuff. Maybe it finally turned people off?

I wonder if Trump and politics fatigue sets in as well and the K&C political talk is becoming a detriment.

I don't see the monthies until I get the quarterlies (each month is on those sheets). I'm not sure if these January numbers are based on Beasley using total-line reporting -- meaning one number for streaming and the radio broadcast -- or still from the CBS Radio days. I cannot wait until it's all one measure. I'll sort it out when I get back from vacation.

It's one company now correct? Could be that the hammer came down because they don't want to try and drive advertisers away from one show to support another.

Apropos of nothing but, I noticed this morning that EEI put their online stream on a delay now just like the broadcast. Used to be you would hear it when someone swore or whatever if you were listening online, now it drops out just like it does on the radio. They are really terrified.

Britt McHenry will be in studio on Tuesday. Expect a similar reaction from Gerry as we saw with Bird and Becky Lynch.
They were talking about her this morning. Tanguay was appalled that the station was flying her in for this. Kirk said that they actually care about ratings, blah, blah, blah (do people really think that she will bring in more listeners than they already have?)

She's ultra conservative and will be right in line with Gerry. I at least hope Kirk challenges her a little bit.

That is pretty laughable to think that Britt McHenry will bring "ratings". I could actually see some real "buzz" for the station if they were able to score an appearance of Ann Coulter, who Gerry has been obsessed with for many years. But a freelance MAGA twitter troll? Not so much.

"Hey assholes, don't think that our show is hateful enough? Well guess what, it's going to get worse! Britt McHenry is going to give Gerry his first Viagra-less boner in years! And Kirk will do something 'cRazY' ... PLEASE listen! For the love of God, pay attention to us! We need your outrage in order to survive."

The documentary essentially accuses the two of them of being responsible for the suicide because they discussed/joked about is sexuality on the air two days prior.

Kirk and Gerry participated in a Baez produced Hernandez documentary. The backtracking from these two badasses tomorrow morning will be amusing.
What do they have to "backtrack" about?

The documentary essentially accuses the two of them of being responsible for the suicide because they discussed/joked about is sexuality on the air two days prior.
I don't recall them joking about his sexuality at all. In fact, they broke the story. That guy "Rabbit" called in and gave the scoop on what his prison friends told him.

The whole documentry was a fucking dog and pony show.

I think Michelle McPhee actually broke the story and “Rabbit” backed up her story.

They seem to have agreed to do this documentary without knowing who was producing it and that it was going to be so pro-Hernandez. That seems like a dumb mistake to make.

Very surprising, since saying or doing dumb things is so unusual for them.

They just had in the author of that ESPN Magazine article about “most dominant athlete” list. I thought he hung in there pretty good against the usual barbs and shouting down from Kirk et. al. despite defending, IMO, a ridiculous list.

According to Finn’s follow-up, WEEI beat the sports hub 12.6 to 12.4 in the morning. Sports Hub is claiming victory because they disregard m the 0.9 share that listen to Kirk and Callahan on the 103.7 frequency in the Boston metropolitan area. Counting only 93.7 listeners, Toucher and Rich wins 12.4 to 11.7. I think that’s pretty disingenuous, but it’s hard to feel bad for WEEI, as they used to ignore WBZ-FM’s streaming numbers when it better fit their narrative.
