In between speculating about how awesome it would be if the Las Vegas shooter was named Mohammed, these two "promoted" the roundtable broadcast by talking about how "no one cares about baseball" and plotted out how they were gonna ambush the other hosts and talk about their petty personal grudges.

Because what listeners really want is the Real Housewives of WEEI starring Kirk and Gerry.
Apparently they do since K&C are crushing it in ratings. I can't stand more than about 2 minutes for many reasons, but what they're doing is working. Trump is the best thing that ever happened to this show.

I have said it many times, but I can't imagine going into most work days listening to them being so vile and angry. The last thing I want to do is have that level of discourse at 7am in the morning. What an awful way to start the day, whether you agree with them or not, bt I'm clearly the minority.

I just got an alert on my phone that Red Sox Round table was broadcasting live on WEEI. Cool, I thought. I'd like to hear some more discussion before the series starts tomorrow.

As soon as I tune in, Kirk is screaming at Michael Holley, accusing him of calling him a klansman on the air in a previous broadcast. I Turned it right off. They are now ruining other shows on the station.
I listened to this as well. At 6 they had Gerry, Keefe, Ordway and Merloni on and I thought it was a cool idea; but Gerry immediately when into talking about how Adam Jones is a liar, which Keefe pushed back on and Gerry started calling him names and I turned it off after about a few minutes. Thought it was a good idea though, probably would have worked if Gerry and Kirk weren't around.

That was about the least listenable radio I've ever heard. I got maybe 5 minutes of Kirk berating literally everyone and that was that.

Kirk and Gerry! Who knows what those crazy kooks are going to say next?*

Unless they get a rating that equates with 50 percent of radio listeners, you're not in the minority.

Having really smelly shit pays these days, and Gerry's got the smelliest. Just because it makes him rich, it doesn't mean that he and his show are not all those things that the vast amounts of people who don't listen to them say they are.

I listened to parts of both hours of the so-called roundtable on the way home tonight and it was horrible. The first had zero baseball talk, other than the AJ incident squabble. I can't see how Minihane can live with himself or how anyone can pay him any amount of respect. The second had maybe ten minutes about the HOU series, but it was all sarcastic and emphasizing what has to happen to ensure Farrell's demise. They actually succeeded in making Mazzaroti sound calm, cool, insightful, and like he actually gave a shit about baseball.

Kirk had no intention of talking about baseball last night and generally has no intention of talking about sports in the morning. He may do a little bit about the Pats, but otherwise will openly mock normal sports segments, either on his own show or others. He wants the local teams to lose and picks against them every week. He would much rather have the "housewives of EEI" as someone said above than actually talk about sports.

The ego on this guy. I don't know what his resume is or how much experience he has in radio. But he acts like he is the be all end all of radio hosts. Unfortunately, he has the ratings to back it up. I really wish someone who didn't care much about their career would go in and challenge him. Because I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take much for him to completely go off the rails and do something to get fired.

As far as ratings go, I thought they won the most recent book (while T&R had been mostly on vacation) but otherwise never did that well.

Chad Finn usually makes this point when the books come out but they still did really well even when they were #2. They just happened to be behind a juggernaut but they put up big numbers compared to other morning shows around the country. Boston really, really likes sports talk radio.

Kirk and Callahan have won the morning in the two most recent books in the key men 25-54 demographic. They even finished ahead of Felger and Mazz to become the number one show in any time slot this summer (by a slim 0.1 margin when WBZ's stream is added). Here are Chad Finn's most recent write ups:

Agreed, both stations are likely making a ton of money, and I wouldn't feel bad for the second place in any time slot. They're battling more for bragging rights than dollars at this point.

Along those same lines, WEEI used to claim they were #1 even when they clearly were not, by cherry picking demographics (WEEI runs up the score on listeners 55+, but advertisers don't care too much about reaching them) or adding in affiliates in markets where the Sports Hub does not compete (i.e. "most listened to show in New England!").

Don't ask me why I left a radio on WEEI, but I just walked into a room and heard them saying that Hanley's not in today's lineup, total BS messing with people, but it might be the funniest thing they've ever done.

No way, over Sporty McSport or whatever that was? i mean he called random people and passive aggressively mocked them, how can you beat that?

Some weird stuff going on right now. They had teased a story about something for 8am, but didn't follow through on it. Claimed that the CEO of the station/company came in and warned them not to tell it. They backed down, bit kept teasing they would tell it before the she ended.

Kirk apparently just walked out during the last break. Some odd stuff.

Sounds like they were going to talk about someone who was making their lives miserable for the past few weeks. But really no other clues.

Seemed entirely manufactured to me - Kirk probably had a proctologist appointment at 945 and needed an excuse to duck out early.

He did threaten to fire the show producers and punch them in the face, so maybe someone screwed up his Dunkin order?

Also, they were heavily promoting Kirk's podcast - in which he "goes all in on John Dennis" - very heavily, suggesting more firmly that the whole thing was a work and in furtherance of The Real Housewives of WEEI "show".

There are no words to adequately describe how much this show has deteriorated from a sports fan standpoint. Just wretched radio

Believe me, I have no sympathy for them, (just look at my other posts in this thread), but this was not fake. Whatever the the actual thing is that they can't talk about may turn out to be really dumb (at the very least I doubt they're the innocent victims they're painting themselves out to be), but it's definitely not a stunt to my ears.

I imagine we'll read about it in the Herald within the next week or so assuming the little baby rich boy Kirk's bosses don't give in to him and let him go on the air with it.

I was going to give it a listen, but WEEI hasn't posted any audio from today's show (it's usually up by 11:00) so I think this is legit.

Cantkeepmedown's post above sums it up pretty well.
There is something going on so I don't think it was completely manufactured but it was certainly over-dramatized.

someone on twitter mentioned that they "heard" the big secret was that NESN and/ or WEEI were splitting from the Jimmy Fund Telethon, though I can't imagine there's a shred of truth to that

the crap they were teasing this morning was that one person had been extorting them, and they were ready to go public about it (tune in at 8 to find out!!!)

where art thou O Chad Finn? :p

They did say something about whatever was going on it would have a negative impact on the Jimmy Fund.
It may be that EEI are being uninvited from the telethon or something like that.

I've heard its about a sponsor being upset with their content and moving to a different show. One of their other hosts is telling people it's mostly shtick.

They just talked about it. Long story short: There is a campaign contacting their sponsors over (surprise surprise) transphobic garbage on their show. It must be working if they're talking about it so seriously (apparently they offered to do a trans-related PSA as a mea culpa).

The bit in question wasn't the worst thing they've ever said, and it was from over 2 years ago, but I can't help but feel amused over Red Blooded Capitalist Gerry Callahan being taken down by the free market principals he so (pretends to) worships.

It's almost as if the shitty words they say every day have real world consequences. Huh? Who would have though that? Weird.

Yeah, because telling a show's sponsors that they might like to know that they are sponsoring bigoted assholes, is *exactly* the same as doxxing this guy and probably exposing him to more than just sponsor problems, given the plurality of show's fans.

Wow, TurtleBoy Sports is a complete cesspool. I hadn't gone down that rathole before and wish i hadn't.
Other than its twiter feed, its blocked at my workplace because of "tastelessness." Given what I regularly read, that must be something to behold.

It’s kind of like Kirk&callahan, foxnews, the worst parts of barstool and TMZ mixed together.

The only good thing about that cretin attacking the guy is that it will have the exact opposite of it's intended effect. There's a reason K&C weren't allowed to name the guy or really go after him, because their sponsors are terrified. This is only gonna make him dig his heels in deeper.

Which he literally admits and basically boasts about in that vile post on his site. He doesn't give a shit about sponsors bailing on the Jimmy Fund (which is obviously complete bullshit), his only goal is clicks and riling up his neanderthal readers.

I listened to their podcast explaining things from their perspective, and even though I am loathe to type this, I think they are in the right about this situation (not with what they said in the 2015 clip). They are getting screwed over by the person pursuing the stations sponsors.

These guys lose the benefit of the doubt from me on nearly any situation where they are involved in controversy (Metco, Erin Andrews etc.), but it seems like whomever is going after their sponsors is unreasonable, not to mention a little crazy. He allegedly wanted them to sign a form stating that they would never discuss any transgender topics on the air ever again, which is fucking ludicrous.

Does anyone else feel that way about this thing?

That thing reads likes it was written by a 12-year old.

Turtleboy Coward is full of shit. I read that post. Its "savage" only in its knuckle-dragging immaturity and ill-logic.
If Buffalo Wild wings is intimidated by one guy -- and not what the story is, and dont look at the nature of the story -- its on them, not him. And turtlefucker is one using the Jimmy Fund by his claim advertisers bail on eei then they'll bail on the jimmy fund, an unsupported assertion. That story is full of holes. There is nothing in the about the Sherborn guy going after the Jimmy Fund.
No, GEICO doesn't listen to the guy because he's rich.

This is the identical tack that certain people use to claim that a football player kneeling during the anthem is pissing on America.

That he keeps referring to gabe as "she" and the father's actions as nazi-like gives turtlefucker away. Gerry and Kirk are the objects of turtleboy's onanism.

Update: This lowlife bigot was banned from twitter for "targeted harassment". I reported him for the tweets linking to this story, but he's so vile it could have been for pretty much anything. Of course he created another account but if people stay on top of him it won't be long before he's kicked off again,

I guess Callahan is trying to get in on that sweet, sweet Mike Felger action.

Edit: for a guy who is always angry and shows zero empathy for anyone, I bet Callahan spends a good portion of his day absolutely bawling. Either that or he's incredibly close to his heart exploding inside his rib cage.

WEEI seems like the most miserable place to work. Good for Dale and Keefe for calling out Reimer as being the token gay punching bag on D&C.

All of sports radio sounds like a shitty place to work. Today I was doing some errands and I heard Mazz say he wasn’t too impressed with the C’s 16-Game win streak, hoped they lost and thought the whole thing was overblown. Even Felger was like, what are you talking about, man.

Mazz said that the Celts have to beat Golden State in Oakland for him to get excited. Which if that happens he’s going to say they have to beat the Cavs in the playoffs.

I flipped over to EEI where I heardDale Arnold bragging about not voting in the last election because he hates Hillary so much that he wakes up every day knowing that he did the right thing. To be fair he said he didn’t like Trump but finds Hillary more detestable.

Keene couldn’t believe what his partner said especially after he doubled down on how he wakes up every day.

I turned the radio off and continued my ride in silence.

A high school classmate of mine defended Callahan and Kirk in their feud with LeBatard saying "WEEI and Barstool are part of the "Boston Army". Meaning we are racist snobs. ESPN sucks, and so does Dan LeBatard or whatever his name is.."

This led me into an exploration of Gerry's twitter feed... Man there's a lot of insisting that anyone noting racism in Boston is a liar while, at the same time, being perhaps the single post public example of racism in Boston.
