*That* is the best point yet. Too bad TB didn't use that to scrap the whole thing.
Because Fauria being an idiot jock and using a racist fake accent about his agent is somehow worse than the entire town of media constantly harping about the godfather of his son? I’m just curious how we grade these things, when it comes to what should piss TB off?

What obligation does he have to make any of this easy on any of them? Again - he’s doing a contractually obligated puff piece once a week - to help their ratings - and they go after him on shit they know he’s tired of talking about.

Yes. Fauria's racist rant is 10 fucktillion times worse than criticising Guerrero's "medical" practices or asking Brady what changed to have him back on the plane.

You answered your own question. "Contractually obligated." But as one learns early in law school, a party to a contract has two options - perform or breach. As someone upthread said, I don't think anyone really acted "wrong" on the radio yesterday. I didn't see anything particularly nasty about the questions in light of recent developments, but I understand Brady's reaction to avoid the subject altogether. Refusing to give oxygen to a fire is a sound strategy. I liked BB's answer better, though.

I just heard the interview and I've got to give Kirk a pass. As someone said up thread, he dropped it and moved on, but Brady kept going. He did a good job on the interview and wasn't being an ass, as I assumed.

I don't like Kirk, at all, but I'm not sure what he did wrong in this instance. Like I said when Shaughnessy asked Belichick about Butler during the first day of camp, when something happens, it's a reporter's job (and in this case, Kirk was a reporter) to ask about it*. Last year it was a big deal that Guerero wasn't allowed anywhere near the Pats' sidelines, now he's allowed to travel with the team. What happened there? Was there a change in protocol? If so, why?

* Of course, Brady doesn't have to answer the question; but he looks like a bit of an ass if he doesn't at least acknowledge it. Even something simple as, "Well, it's all good. There never was any problem anyway."

But this is a good lesson to journalists as to why you ask a question. I bet that Kirk never thought that Brady would hang up on him, but he did and now he gets a little juice from it. Which shouldn't be a positive thing, but with sports radio, it is.

Apparently having the audacity to question Brady politely about a subject that Brady doesn't want to discuss because his business partner is a scumbag and he wants to sell concussion water.

I mean, really, reporters are assholes, Trump should get one question about Russia and then it should be left alone since it's been covered for over a year.

And the question wasn't even about the business the partner was in.

It appears Tom Brady disagrees, but maybe that's why he isn't on OMF. Make sure to let him know what he should be offended by though and to what degree.

His contract is with WEEI, not with K&C. He could just as easily go do Dale and Keefe. I don't see anything particularly wrong in asking either, but I'm also working off the assumption some kind of conversation has occurred to the likes of "just don't fucking ask me about AG, I'm not talking about him, ok?" So even if he said "pretty please", ask it once and read the reception. Beyond that, you're trolling, no matter how politely you poke. So I have no issue with him hanging up. If you honestly think that wasn't a targeted result to garner attention for K&C, I'm not sure what to tell you, we just aren't going to agree on this. But, I'm also of the mind that whatever he makes from it, he'd gladly shake some pocket change out and be done with it, so I'm not sure breach of contract is really much of a weight on his shoulders.

You're right, whether a guy flew on the plane or not is definitely on par with Trump and Russia. Good analogy. I'm sure Minihane was doing solid investigative reporting there. Very important stuff.

Maybe he's just tired of talking about something that's not important to anyone other than muckrakers?

I'm not sure he has that choice. It isn't a contract between Brady and WEEI, it's a contract between the Patriots and WEEI (the "Patriots Monday" package). Part of the obligation in that package is the head coach and the starting quarterback appear on the drive time shows. Brady's choices are K&C or OMF. I imagine switching to another show means rearranging not only his own schedule but Belichick's as well.

Can't picture that conversation going well..."Bill, I need you to call in to WEEI at 6am instead of 4pm because they're asking me questions about Guerrero that I don't like."

How is this muckraking exactly? In November, the Patriots had a policy in place where it seemed that Guerrero wasn't allowed anywhere near the field or the team (despite having an office in Gillette). Whether or not this was a media dustup, it was a big deal. Now, Guerrero is allowed to travel with the team, completely reversing what was put into place 10 months ago. All Minihane was asking is what happened.

I love what Tom Brady has done for this team. But to think that he's above answering a simple question is fanboyism 101.

You don't think there's really anything wrong in asking. Neither do I. And you don't think there's anything wrong in hanging up. Neither do I.
Our only point of disagreement is your assumption.
I think Minihane is a raging scumbag. But if they really had a conversation like the one you suggest, even I don't think Minihane would do it. Like most talk-radio bullies, Minihane is a coward at heart. He doesn't have the nerve to do that to Brady's face, even on the phone.

Dale and Keefe are 10-2. There’s no 10 hr difference to consider. ‘Bill’s available at 9-10. Tom’s available 11-12’. And I’m curious as to the details of how the contract is worded, because I’m pretty sure that when he was suspended, they rotated though other players who weren’t Jimmy G or Brissett.

It’s not fanboyism it’s not giving a shit about dumb drama that doesn’t impact what happens between the lines. I don’t care. Nor should you. I consider it muckraking because a few weeks ago, we had him walk away from reporters asking on it. That’s the only reason KM and his lackey asked repeatedly (I don’t really weigh his tone of voice or how aggressive he might have been). Have you ever before known of who is on the team plane? Does it matter? Again, ask once. Sure. When he clearly isn’t going to talk about it, don’t keep prying and then go straight to twitter to whine. This is reporters (and I wouldn’t even call KM that) repeatedly banging their head against the wall to drive clicks. This is ‘we’re on to Cincinnati’.

Edit: as Ninkovich tweeted at him, if you don’t want him to hang up on you, don’t ask stupid questions.

My floor for Minihane is lower than yours I guess. He had like a week of being human with the suicide scare but I can’t imagine he’s changed much. They literally take the dumbest callers they can so they can yell at them, before I gave up on it the show was primarily politics and not even sports and he has perhaps one of the biggest egos around. I don’t find him lacking the nerve to go after anyone, Brady included; I don’t doubt for a second he’s not scared of going after Brady. But reasonable minds can differ on that.

Drive time is the key here. 10-2 is not drive time. That show is usually the one that gets a rotating schedule of guests. The prime time shows get the headline guests.

The key for me is face-to-face. (Or voice to voice). Minihane does go after everyone. But as you say, they're usually the dumb-ass callers and others who can't or won't bother to respond. Classic bully. But when the target is in front of him (figuratively)? And the on-air call is important to the station? Minihane's balls probably shrink like George Costanza's in the Hamptons.

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on whether we agree.

So he takes a leave of absence the day he trashes Brady all morning.
Well yes, but keep in mind he did consider stepping in front of a train a few weeks ago. He is an asshole but he is also an asshole who seems to have serious mental health issues.

I'm curious if he takes any medications for his mental issues, considering his past demons. I've heard him say he doesn't even take so much as a Tylenol PM because it's still a form of narcotic.

I kinda wanna call in and fight about the philosophical problems with not being able to see the greatness of this Red Sox team with that guy saying that they prove truth and honor are dead.

No dummy: it just means virtue doesn’t look like you expected to the point that you can’t recognize it, and you’re not even aware of this.

I tuned it for the first time in ages after Price dominated last week and it was immediately “oh, well I guarantee if the series was 2-2 instead of 3-1, Price would have choked,” and that was that. I ashume we are geting a similar set up today. No thanks.

I found the actual conversation between Minihane and the EEI executives:

Kirk: I want to go in there.
EEI Exec: I want you to cool off. Just cool off. And we'll come back and talk some sports.

K: I said I'm ready to talk.
E: Not now.

K: I'm not going to tell you again, Jack.

E: I'm not going to talk sports to you in the state you're in.
K: What do you mean "state"? State of Massachusetts? I know where I am.

E: You've been up for two days.
K: I haven't been up for two days!

E: Nevertheless, you look like you haven't been to sleep. I ain't going to talk sports with you this way because you don't look good.
K: You don't tell me anything, okay?

E: Really?
K: You're not the boss of me.
E: Yes.
K: You're the king?
E: Yes.

E: Don't you fucking touch me!
K: Gerry, you shut up too! You're not the mother of me. You're not my boss. You're not my mother! You're not my mom!

Gerry: Honey, please don't. I'll take you home.

K: I'm ready to talk some sports. I want to talk about overtly racist stuff. I'm fine.
E: I want you out of here!
K: It's over. I'm done.
E: Listen to me, kid...
K: Don't you call me kid! I'll fuck you up! Want to see me kick some ass? I know fucking karate!

E: You're fucking fired!
K: You are fired!
E: You're fired, you goddamn kid! Son of a bitch!

K: No. You know what? I'm the biggest star here, man. That's the way it is. I want to talk, it's my big mouth, so everybody get ready fucking now!

K: You know what? I don't need this shit! You know, fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck all of you! You're not my boss! You're not the king of me! I am the fucking king of Kirk!

Pretty simple. I’ve been ready to work for the last week or so and have been kept off the air. You build a show, take it to number one, step aside to get healthy and expect to be welcomed back. Hasn’t happened.

The thing is Kirk knows he has "leverage" though, as he legitimately on his own (for bettter or worse, IMO worse) led to a ratings surge for EEI AM show. I bet Entercom/EEI executives and employees are privately hoping the next ratings report shows at worst a negligible loss so they can finally tell Kirk to suck sand for good.

Got it. Thanks all. Sounds like something I won't get much out of listening to. Last time I listened to EEI was probably when Eddie Andelman was saying he would see us real soon at the Kow Loon.

The Park was nuts last night - different from the last three - there was a "been there before" attitude that was comforting and exciting. A mix of confidence and humility. And there is a zero percent chance that the crowd did not get to Clayton. I don't think he's ever experienced anything like that.

Chad Finn can pipe in and correct me but to my knowledge management pays for ratings they get daily that even break it down per segment. So they already knows that’s the case.

Minnihane is bashing management publicly and as been, he’s been likely almost fired a few times, my bet is they’re cutting their losses. Kirks using this as his big push to Barstool and to make a splash. Let the wider population have him.
