Got it. Thanks all. Sounds like something I won't get much out of listening to. Last time I listened to EEI was probably when Eddie Andelman was saying he would see us real soon at the Kow Loon.

The Park was nuts last night - different from the last three - there was a "been there before" attitude that was comforting and exciting. A mix of confidence and humility. And there is a zero percent chance that the crowd did not get to Clayton. I don't think he's ever experienced anything like that.
They were acting above the fray by celebrity dissing and when it comes down to it tried to score points by basically knowing who you were and your wife's name. I think the irony is probably lost on them.

It was kinda bizarre--they went the extra mile to be jerks on the air for a very short period of time, though I didn't know about the poll.

Tuned in at 6:30 out of morbid curiosity, wondering what the discussion would be with the Sox up 2-0. Sure enough, it was mostly bitching about Schilling not being invited to throw out the first pitch - along with speculation about the team foregoing a White House appearance. Click.

I'm actually somewhat surprised he expected Gerry to support him. GC has always played it right down the middle, not picking a side and looking out for number 1.
I mean, shit, he was JD's partner for what, 15 years? And he didn't so much as lift a finger to help him when that whole thing was going down.

It is a little amusing to watch Kirk flounder though. Mental health issues aside, it would seem he is currently reaping some of the ill will he has for so long sown.

How much of this is a work? Like picking a Twitter fight with your bosses, your mentors and your coworkers show that Minihane isn't losing his edge. Most D&C listeners are knuckle-dragging troglodytes who think that therapy is something "only for pussies" and that if you're depressed, you drink another brew and maybe you won't be so depressed anymore. Besides, "Minhane makes good money and talks about sports, WTF is he depressed about?"

My thought is that Kirk is going on the offensive (with EEI and Callahan's blessing) to show that even though he went through therapy, he's going to be same old Kirk when he comes back. No bullshit, no surrender. I don't disbelieve that Minihane has serious mental issues, but what I don't completely buy is him going off the rails and bitching about it on Twitter like a petulant child.

It's just another reason to get people to tune in to when he comes back. "What's Kirk going to say now? Is he going to call Dale Arnold a bitch? Ooooh the DRAMA!"

He should lock himself in the studio. That's more believable.

Sorry, but if this doesn't scream "work" then I don't know what does.

10000%. Places like EEI and Barstool have capitalized on the fact that young to middle aged men are equally, if not more so, interested in soap opera type drama than the demographic that follows the Kardashians.

I can't believe someone would pay "good money" to listen to someone bitch about his work conditions. Just talk to one of your friends about work and when he talks about Biff from accounting, substitute "Glen Ordway" or Sylvia from marketing, "Gerry Callahan".

Because really, aside from "knowing" who these people are; who gives a fuck?

Edit: And Haunted is 100% correct, this is a work. Which is pretty fucking pathetic for Minihane to do.

I do sort of understand playing the "my job sucks" stuff. Everyone deals with some bullshit with their job and many people find comfort and validation in that "hey even these radio guys have to put up with turkeys for coworkers!"

Then they’re sad people, which I guess is the audience here.
I appreciate a good vent and often go back and forth with coworkers or friends in kind of a light hearted ‘can you believe this shit? Lol!’ if they’re in a similar industry or position, but what comfort or validation is there in listening to a random stranger complain about, I dunno, the their producer when I work in sales? I certainly don’t care about it when I click on for entertainment (and I really could give two shits about what bothers Minihane, he made his bed.), but if some random guy in the barstool next to me starts whining about accounting, I’m getting up and moving seats. Ymmv.

From Kirk's updated Twitter bio:

Took a medical leave on Sept 9. Was told I needed to present a Dr. note to return to work. Did just that on Oct 12. No idea why I haven’t worked since. Go Sox!!

I don't believe him.

(and every other pitiful, disgusting, callous thing he ever said or condoned about others who claimed they were being harassed or mistreated at work)

Hopefully this leads to Minihane going to the Interweb land, Callahan getting canned after Mutt & Callahan sucks and we can get a real sports morning show in Boston. I love T&R but there is a lot of time I'd love a real sports show.

That being said, WEEI will not fire Callahan, will probably hire Schilling and it'll be another 5 years of garbage.

Schilling would kill the show a lot faster than he did 38 Studios.

Did we ever get an official reason for Holley leaving? Perhaps wrong thread to ask but I’m just trying to think of how they could juggle things. I don’t particularly like any of the teams right now. Morning show sucks. I don’t like Keefe and ordway makes me want to puncture my own eardrums most of the time.

Ya, Holley left because he got Felger's old gig hosting the night show on Comcast Sports and didn't want to juggle both jobs.

When does the next ratings book come out? If their ratings are somehow holding up without Kirk, I bet they don't change anything. But I think a lot of their listeners are holding out for him to come back, and it seems he won't be.

What's interesting is that the podcast was supposed to come out this morning, then was moved to this evening, now supposedly 8pm tomorrow evening (which is a strange time of day to release something to a wide audience).
Feels like the podcast is getting scrubbed by corporate or lawyers or both. Apparently Entercom also owns the podcasting network Richard's show is part of. Seems super shady.

I am disquieted about making fun or laughing at his fall given his mental health issues. But...he's a giant asshole who stirred a pot of crap and it finally burned him. EEI used him and his brand to weather the 98.5 onslaught and have now seemingly managed to recover, so they are finding a convenient reason to essentially silence him. I am all for it and I will give the new duo a shot.

Kirk tweeting about it now with Q&R. It's apparently a podcast. Entercom holding him all the way until the end of his contract.

The part about how he didn’t want to be part of the new morning show is my favorite part. Sounds like they heard from the same people as Fred and told him to stop doing awful radio. Now he’s got a podcast to do awful radio by himself. It really is like being banished to Siberia. Ask the Sports Pope how great the Podcast world is.

He unintentionally sums it up:

I think they want to go locally from a company perspective in a different direction, that is less acerbic, less — I guess they would use mean-spirited — and more of a traditional sports talk show.“Obviously that’s not the way I would want to go.
At least he acknowledges that being "mean-spirited" is the skill he brings to the show.

I tuned in out of curiosity this morning on my ride to work and it was nothing buy yelling and screaming. Accusing each other of not being supportive. Basically hoping the other one fails.

Sounds like the door was open for Gerry to join him but he refused (Gerry said there was never an offer). Gerry clearly thinks Kirk's show is going to fail, but I don't think he's too happy being stuck with Mutt.

Basically, both are miserable and the rest of us should rejoice.

I did the same on my commute, what a f'ing mess they are. It's really unfortunate that Callahan didn't go with him and we could have been rid of both of them in one shot. Listening to them yelling and talking over each other for 20 minutes was really hard to listen to. I don't know how anyone finds talking over each other good radio.

Can'tkeep I think you're right, Callahan knows he's really screwed now, he knows Kirk is going to fail as well, so they're both going to lose in this. The good news is everyone else wins with them both going down in flames. Kirk's in big trouble since most of their demo doesn't know how to use an app or find what Radio.com is.

It's amazing in 2018 the WEEI lineup is Callahan, Dale and Ordway. I hated Kirk and think he was awful, but he did draw ratings from a younger crowd. Their 18-34 #'s are going to be horrendous now in the morning, which will cause a free fall for the midday and afternoon shows. They need to find someone that will attract a younger demo real soon.

There is a non-zero chance that at some point that I would make the effort to listen to Kirk’s show, but I don’t think the device that can accurately measure how small a chance that is has been invented yet.
