The more reports the better I feel. There’s like 8 people on this thing now with combined reports.NO, I meant to say copter. Another report saying Rick Fox was with him.

I think that's fair, but at the same time, a balanced take would include all of the humanitarian work he was in fact responsible for.No?
edit. Talk all you want about him being a great athlete, and a great competitor.
Don't lie and say he was a great human when by all accounts, he was exactly not.
Except the posters lionizing him as a great person.no one doesn’t know this
Forget basketball, he seemed like a genuinely good person who had the means and the desire to help society be a better place to be. Whoever said Clemente was right, this is pretty much this generation's version of that.
Really, really, really hoping it's not the case.I really would think TMZ would have had the kids thing if true, so that gives me some hope that it isn’t
Really?Congratulations. You are edgy and going against the grain. Here's your medal. Now get the fuck out. Kobe in 2020 is not who he was in 2004.
You’re worried about them reading the site?Jesus Christ. There are really posters here bringing up a 15 year old case? Let the man and his children get removed from the site first.
Davey Allison as well. And he was the pilot, I believe. (Not big news in the northeast but huge around much of the country when it happened.)Stevie Ray Vaughn was a copter crash, IIRC
I don't understand the whole "can't you let the body go cold first?" bit. Did anyone say that after Osama Bin Laden died? I'm NOT comparing Kobe to OBL. Just pointing out the absurdity of the statement. If you think someone was a bad person, then why does there have to be a waiting period to say so?You know what? A little bit no. What happened to the victim in that case - likely at the hands of Kobe Bryant and again at the hands of the fucking tabloids and even the mainstream press - was abominable. I can't believe everyone here, save one poster so far, seems to have forgotten about this. He was a hell of a ballplayer, he did a lot of good for his community, maybe he was a good father and husband, but he was also likely a rapist, and the tactics his lawyer used and he clearly ok'd during that time were disgusting and are a prime example of why women do not report rapes.
Yes, SOSH would be so much better if one of the few women brave enough to still post here would just get the fuck out.Congratulations. You are edgy and going against the grain. Here's your medal. Now get the fuck out. Kobe in 2020 is not who he was in 2004.
Well that is at least some good news.
They know this. Everybody knows this.Except the posters lionizing him as a great person.
Sorry someone insulted your sports hero, tough guy.Removed edit
Seems like a really good idea.We probably need a separate “Kobe’s legacy” thread vs. news about Kobe’s death thread. Obviously people may differ but I’m not in a mode to debate his legacy at this point and would rather avoid that back and forth at this point.
I cannot speak for anyone else, but I'm just a person who thinks that comparing Kobe Bryant's death to Clemente's is asinine, and I find such comparisons as distasteful here as some of you who are so offended that a person or two might remind everyone that the guy had some flaws that were really, really awful. But, please go on telling me how awful I am for not "letting the body cool."Actually, it's exactly the place for that. Who are you people?
That sounds right. We probably need a separate “Kobe’s legacy” thread vs. news about Kobe’s death thread. Obviously people may differ but I’m not in a mode to debate his legacy at this point and would rather avoid that back and forth at this point.
Sure.By all accounts he was also not the same guy now that he was 15-20 years ago.
Not quite. Stevie's brother Jimmie and Jimmie's wife vacated their seats to let Stevie take that copter. But yes, it fairly easily could have been Clapton.Yep. Should've been Clapton, but Vaughan took his seat.
This. The rape stuff is an essential part of his legacy and posters who view it as the most significant part of his legacy dont really need to wait until it suits you or is more comfortable for you to express their views. It is a completely valid point for this thread, to me.
And yes the potential of the kids being involved makes that angle not as suited for the moment but in fairness the part about the kids came up after those posts.
Not many of us are. It's pretty ignorant to talk of a man today about his misdeeds from two decades ago. I suppose those who are have lived such a wonderful life.By all accounts he was also not the same guy now that he was 15-20 years ago.
I hope they do and I think they will. What a perfect opportunity to honor him and bring the community together because they have to really be hurting right now.Lakers host Clippers on Tuesday. If they play it, that is going to be as captivating of a sporting event as it gets.
“misdeeds”Not many of us are. It's pretty ignorant to talk of a man today about his misdeeds from two decades ago. I suppose those who are have lived such a wonderful life.

Completely understand your thoughts. I'm trying to take everything people say or write immediately after a shocking event with a grain of salt. I'm sure people will reflect and reevaluate what they've said once they have time to think.I cannot speak for anyone else, but I'm just a person who thinks that comparing Kobe Bryant's death to Clemente's is asinine, and I find such comparisons as distasteful here as some of you who are so offended that a person or two might remind everyone that the guy had some flaws that were really, really awful. I'm sure a mod will be along soon to ask me and Shyness to cease and desist so you can all whitewash the man's history and remember his amazing humanitarianism from your days in high school and college.
I have already let you know what a tool you are for bringing 15 year old accusations into a thread about a storied sports star's tragic death. I'm leaving now, but make sure you stay here and guard the thread to make sure that any latecomers know that Kobe Bryant wasn't Jesus Christ. Everyone is confused on that, and you're performing a valuable service.I cannot speak for anyone else, but I'm just a person who thinks that comparing Kobe Bryant's death to Clemente's is asinine, and I find such comparisons as distasteful here as some of you who are so offended that a person or two might remind everyone that the guy had some flaws that were really, really awful. It’s remarkable how quickly people are to forgive people they like and white wash the past. The dude didn’t steal a car. He likely raped a woman and got off the same way most rich and famous people do.“misdeeds”
No, I meant I wished Clapton had perished in that crash. Not quite. Stevie's brother Jimmie and Jimmie's wife vacated their seats to let Stevie take that copter. But yes, it fairly easily could have been Clapton.
The first part is spot on imo. Bryant is this generation's MJ in terms of how much he influenced the young players in the league. I expect that there are a lot of NBA players who are especially devastated right now.Feel fucking terrible for all the young guys in the league right now. As bad as anyone here feels, the entire generation of young players right now just lost their idol.
The NBA is the best love-to-hate league because the level of ability is just fucking insane and there are so many great personalities. Nobody symbolizes that more than Kobe who was the 1A great villain for a decade+. Fuck.
Exactly this.Comparing his life to Clemente is ridiculous.
comparing the magnitude of the shock of his death to Clemente’s is less so.
There's a bit of a difference between not living such a wonderful life and rape. I've done some pretty shitty things in my life but none of them come close to rape. Not many of us are. It's pretty ignorant to talk of a man today about his misdeeds from two decades ago. I suppose those who are have lived such a wonderful life.
You know what? That's fair, Lose. I appreciate that comment and I can see that more clearly when it's pointed out that way.Comparing his life to Clemente is ridiculous.
comparing the magnitude of the shock of his death to Clemente’s is less so.
Just out of curiosity, how do you feel this thread plays out had this been Ben Roethlisberger.I have already let you know what a tool you are for bringing 15 year old accusations into a thread about a storied sports star's tragic death. Why don't you fucking leave for good. You obviously can't discuss anything that upsets you or your bro-dog world view without resorting to personal insults and pathetic fucking hero worship.I have already let you know what a tool you are for bringing 15 year old accusations into a thread about a storied sports star's tragic death. Whether the guy actually committed a rape or not (and no one here knows whether he did), the rape accusations are going to be in the first paragraph of all his obituaries. Are you concerned that they won't be? Is that why it needs to be discussed in every post here? There's a bit of a difference between not living such a wonderful life and rape. I've done some pretty shitty things in my life but none of them come close to rape.
We are talking about RAPE. Does it matter if it was 5 months ago or 20 years ago?
Well I would have been much more convinced it was fakeJust out of curiosity, how do you feel this thread plays out had this been Ben Roethlisberger.
