It’s remarkable how quickly people are to forgive people they like and white wash the past. The dude didn’t steal a car. He likely raped a woman and got off the same way most rich and famous people do.
Not even forgive! People here losing their minds that luckysox dared bring it up. Like he accident stole a soda one time or something.

Between here and everywhere.
I have already let you know what a tool you are for bringing 15 year old accusations into a thread about a storied sports star's tragic death. I'm leaving now, but make sure you stay here and guard the thread to make sure that any latecomers know that Kobe Bryant wasn't Jesus Christ. Everyone is confused on that, and you're performing a valuable service.
Kobe Bryant raped a woman.

I'm sorry someone bringing that up is hurting your feelings.

I honestly don't know what the fuck is wrong with a few of you right now. If you cannot understand the idea that some people are going to be browsing the site, see the headline, be in a bit of a shock and not exactly be interested in being reminded of his worst moments.

You may have used these words before but you're not being censored. You're not being silenced and you're not the victims. You're being assholes. Give it a day.

Whether the guy actually committed a rape or not (and no one here knows whether he did), the rape accusations are going to be in the first paragraph of all his obituaries. Are you concerned that they won't be? Is that why it needs to be discussed in every post here?

The guy died an hour ago, and whether you like him or not, it's a seismic death in the sports world.
So you are upset that SoSh mentioned Kobe being a rapist about 2 or 3 pages into his thread when it will be in the first paragraph of his obituary?

You seem to be the one all butt hurt here. Sorry.

On SoSH we have a thread about people being too mean about For Better or For Worse and how the site is above that now and also people saying rape is a misdeed. Interesting.

I have no idea if Kobe raped her or not but the treatment of the victim was awful. Thank god his wife and kids weren’t on board.

His death is a earth shattering as it gets in the sports world but he wasn’t a saint.

"Sources have confirmed that neither #Bryant’s wife or children were on board of the helicopter that crashed."
Thank fucking god. It was approaching Bixby Letter levels of mind-numbing tragedy. Even if it's 5 adults who died, one of them a father of four, that's enough for one day.

That said: One person dying is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic. Funny to me what incidents reach our collective consciousness enough to get big threads about them.

Pretty sure they won't be.

Between here and everywhere.
His rape case was extremely complex. We can relitigate in a separate thread but his actions were closer to Aziz than Weinstein. He is guilty of being a degrading, demeaning asshole for what he did.
Dude...he fucking admitted it happened. There's not much complex about this.

I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.
That's....rape. When one person doesn't consent. It's rape. That's it. There's no complexity there.

Folks, this is news. It is big news that one of the biggest basketball stars of all time is dead. What he did or didn't do in his life should not prevent us from having a discussion about how big a loss this is to the game of basketball, to his family, and to fans of the league. You should remind yourself that admiring athletes for their talent and accomplishments doesn't mean you admire the person as a role model.

I grew up with Kobe, Jordan, and Shaq. I'm the white kid on the court in Brooklyn who would scream Kobe every time I made a shot (rarely). So, yea this stings. If you want to take that from me by reminding me of the rape accusations, do it later. You don't remind people at a funeral how the person who they're all mourning was flawed. If you do, I recommend posting on the "amitheasshole" reddit.

I think that everybody has been reminded that Kobe was not always a nice guy and a pillar of the community. I don’t think we need any more of that.
I especially think we don’t need anymore complaints about being reminded.
let it go.

This is shitty shitposting, and I hope you have enough self-awareness to be ashamed of it later.

luckysox, good on you for giving it right back to everyone else here.

True, but there also some members who believe that it is appropriate to view all of his, and anyone's, life at moments such as this.

Serious question: do we know he did commit rape? I never researched the case closely so wasn’t sure how open and shut the case was.

12:35 PM PT -- Kobe's daughter Gianna Maria -- aka GiGi -- was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash ... reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13.
We're told they were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred. The Academy is in nearby Thousand Oaks.

And I have zero doubt we will. When people are able to have a rational conversation about it. This is like asking a someone for money they owe you at a funeral.

She deleted the tweet (that the wife and kids weren't on the heli), so no confirmation yet.
Apparently, and tragically, she is very wrong.

Holy shit!
It’s rare you can legitimately be shocked and surprised now-a-days, but I had no idea about this and happened to turn on the Pro Bowl and here a sideline reporter almost in tears ask Drew Brees about it...and just Wow.

RIP, Kobe and other victims (including young daughter). Kobe wasn't perfect, but “people are more than the worst thing they have ever done in their lives” (Helen Prejean).

This forum is wild
Yes it is. The action is too fast and furious right now to separate it into 2 or more distinct threads. Maybe a few hours from now, but for now all topics are legitimate, and it is not required that SoSH say only good things about the dead. Drop the personal insults aimed at individual posters, however.

Literally the first thing that crossed my mind when this flashed across my phone was, "Known rapist dies in helicopter crash." Clearly, I'm not alone in that.

I think it's totally fucked that some people want to whitewash that away just because he died in some bizarre fashion at a young age. People die every day.

Rape is part of his legacy. He has to own that, whether you like it or not.

Everyone.

I think it is fair game to talk about all aspects of Kobe's life. There were a lot of positives, and there were a lot of negatives, when it comes to Kobe Bryant. And when someone like him dies, it brings up a whole range of emotions for people.

If you are going to participate in this thread be prepared that ALL of Kobe will be discussed here.

Please don't attack each other over it.

There is a ton of content on this online and we are probably better served not rehashing the case here.

Folks, a major sports icon, who was a complex human being, died today. People are going to react differently to this because that is how people process these things.

I am just one poster but I think we should accept divergent views without getting into conflict over it. Again, this is a terrible story and feelings are raw.

As a side note, the NBA is in a tough spot here for a variety of reasons. But canceling basketball to honor Kobe Bryant, who was perhaps the poster child for being all about hoops, seems wrong even if I completely understand the sentiment.

No, I will not shut up. I'm not rehashing a case. I'm reminding you that he wasn't a fucking hero.
Please shut up? The facts of that case are hardly important not but also contested. You obviously have a slant against him. Take it somewhere else, the man died today.

Correct. It's not. People are actually grieving.
Might wanna try that one again.

I'm guessing the go-to verbiage for his obituary will be "complicated legacy."

The cradle of the game.
AP finally got around to pushing out the alert, and not a whisper of this on NBCGolf.

Stunned. Just stunned. Doesn't seem possible, but of course it always is.

RIP Kobe.

You're in a sports forum where there are going to be all sorts of different opinions, and you have to accept that. I'm sure there is a much different atmosphere at /r/Lakers. I'm not telling you to get the f*** out, as others have done, despicably - just pointing out that there needs to be different expectations.

Perhaps we need a grieving only thread.

Okay I am actually devastated at a 13 yr old losing her life.

Vanessa must be out of her mind. I hope she has a good support system around her.

Parents should never have to bury their children.
