Right, the cap space teams are Detroit, Orlando, Indiana and the Spurs. The Knicks are in the process of creating space.
My 12yr old suggested that Pop could sign Kyrie with the idea of KD demanding a trade.

Then SA comes over the top with Murray/JRich/Poeltl/KJ + picks

This is a leverage play. Kyrie threw money away last year, but let's be real about what this whole situation is.

Kyrie/Nets can't come to a contract agreement. It's almost certainly because the team isn't willing to pay max to a guy like Kyrie Fucking Irving. Irving wants the max, wants to be co-GM, and is going to tell people to shove the vaccine up their ass.

So, because of that disrespect and lack of financial security...Kyrie is going to option out and go to a team for the $6M vet minumum? When in the next 24 hours do we hear the, "Kyrie may get vaccinated in the right situation!" rumors start to float?

This is bullshit agent spin, and it has been from the beginning. They wanted a max and weren't getting it.

"KD may request a trade if Kyrie isn't brought back!"

Sorry. Still no max offer on the table.

"Yeah? Fine! Kyries going to put out his trade destinations!"

We don't care. Go for it.

"Oh yeah!? Well then maybe Kyrie is going to ask to explore sign and trade options!"

Dude, we already looked. Nobody wants you. You're a fucking asshole. Go explore the market.

"...well...fine! Maybe we'll just opt out and go play for the vet minimum! What will you do then!? You wont get any assets back!!"

We'd rather have no assets than bad assets. We'll help you pack your bags.

I agree with you in principle. I do think he probably wouldn't mind going to the Lakers if he didn't have to sacrifice $30M.

But is vaccination even a concern anymore? Maybe when playing Toronto on the road? But they could just coordinate his rest days around that and avoid the drama that was last season (unless they meet in the playoffs).

Space Jam 2: Uncle Drew Boogaloo?
More like Uncle Drew 2: The Reverse...a movie where a grumpy old basketball star tries to pass himself off as a younger guy who yearns to be good and win championships. It'll probably be about as popular and relevant as Breakin' 2.

While it is arguably the best possible situation for the Nets (not committing to this jackhole) and the worst situation arguably for the Celtics (Nets will be formidable if the 3 of them are healthy), it is pretty fucking delicious that nobody wanted this asshole forcing him to to tuck tail and run home without a contract extension. His narcissistic brain not allowing him to just graciously announce it without some condescending, arrogant quip is just the *kiss* on top of it all.

You know he thinks it has some big brain meaning that no one is smart enough to figure out, when in reality most aren't stupid/weird enough to make sense of it when people do find out

Two plus eleven is an anagram for one plus twelve.

That’s all I got.

edit: love the Joe Morgan reference, tho. What did that mean, again?
We have as much idea about it as we do about A11.

Maybe that was Kyrie's airplane seat he was sitting in when he posted it?

Did he accidentally type about his decision to opt in without realizing he had already typed out another tweet that he never hit post on? Because that first sentence seems to have nothing to do with the rest.

“Fortune favors the bold. Hey, I’m going to McDonald’s, you want anything?”

Still think the Nets would love to trade Kyrie if they can get anything even half decent back and convince KD to stay. Those might not be possible though.

Either way, smart move by the Nets to call his bluff rather than offer a big long term deal.

My boss is one and while he hates Kyrie, he likes Durant and loves having a conceivable shot at a title. He's cautiously optimistic.
Imagine having your hopes hinge on both Kyrie and Simmons working out.

It's definitely arguable. What if Durant ended up on the Heat, for example? That would not be good for the Celtics.

I was catching up on the Lowe post and he and Marks basically said they don't think MIA would be in the conversation, too many other teams have better offers

Well, sure, I would just imagine this means that KD is running it back for one more year though.

I meant if Kyrie left. In that case Durant is probably gone as well. That's just one example outcome which would be worse than current state for the Celtics, since you said this is the worst.

So beyond the narcissistic nonsense at the beginning of this tweet, what the heck does any of this really mean? How the heck do the Nets bring him back and fix what had become an untenable dynamic? I guess you can fire Nash, but it's not even clear if that would make the situation better or worse. And what is Shams talking about when he says Irving is bypassing multiple opt-in and trade scenarios? Weren't all the previously discussed scenarios sign and trades, and wasn't the only team interested in that the Lakers? The idea that more teams would be interested in an opt-in and trade scenario makes sense (much less risk) but if this is true who are those teams and why aren't the Nets pursuing such a trade? Even if trading him means Durant wants out, is that really the end of the world? There is still a ton of value to be gained in trading Durant and that value could give them the reset they need. If they sent him to Boston, for example, Ben Simmons matched with Jalen Brown would be a dynamic young core - and they'd be matched with two of the league's best shooters (Harris and Curry) and a solid young center in Claxton. Presumably they'd pick up draft picks as well (in the Kyrie and Durant trades) which would go far in balancing out all the draft capital they spent on Harden. So yeah, not sure how Kyrie opting in resolves this drama at all. Makes me wonder what rumors are still to come...

I am guessing Shams is talking about how he likes it when agents call him or answer his calls to feed him info.

So my biggest question now is: Is this guy still in the league in 2024?

My money is currently on no but I guess he could actually decide to just play basketball this season.

Yeah, this is Schefter-level water carrying when literally everyone knows these “multiple opt-in and trade scenarios” were bullshit and the Nets called Kyrie’s bluff.

How is Shams not getting destroyed for this?

I find it funny that this post could apply equally to Ben Simmons or to Kyrie (I know you meant the latter).

i don’t know exactly what it means, but I’m pretty sure it was what Dick Tracy said when he signed off from his radio watch. I think it was from the old DT radio show that Morgan listened to as a kid.

Jesus, that above paragraph may as well have been written in Sanskrit.

Apparently, it was a horse racing term used by bookies. A horse that was “six two and even” carried odds of 6-to-1 to Win, 2-to-1 to Place, and even money to Show. Six, two, and even.
