Let's Talk About MLBTV

The scores were wrong on my Roku version of the app. They had the visiting team with the most runs regardless of the game result. (So it looks like the Pirates beat the Cards 9-0, the Brewers beat the Cubs 5-4, and the Guardians beat the Royals 3-1, which were the opposite of all those results.)
Anyone having the issue with MLBTV App on Roku this year where even if you click, "Join Live," it takes you to the start of the game? And the only way to get live is to fast forward.
I've been having both of these issues. Forcing an app update seems to have fixed the score reversal thing, but I'm still getting "join live" going to the start. Luckily you can fast forward pretty quickly (took me a while to realize-- don't hold down FF, just press it repeatedly until it gets to a fast speed)-- but quite annoying when flipping between games.

I've noticed a slightly different issue. If I go to a game while it's still in the "pregame" phase, it will actually start the stream quite a bit behind (like maybe 5-10 minutes behind) instead of live, and it doesn't give me the option of picking live when I click on it. I have to join, and then fast forward it.

But if I go to a game once it's already underway, it'll let me go live just fine from the jump.

The other problem I noticed is the scores have been flipped on the Roku app. Is anyone else having that problem?

(Never mind, just saw above that it is a problem that others are seeing.)

I also am having the problem that clicking on either "start from the beginning" or "go live" leads to the start of the broadcast. I tried to join the Cards game the other day by clicking the "Go Live" button and watched a 20-minute Opening Day ceremony before I realized that the game hadn't been delayed and was already in the second inning.

Mine started doing that last season, and has done it consistently every single game since.

Signed up via the YouTubeTV option, it just makes things easier. One bonus that looks to be continuing from the end of last season is the Pregame and Postgame shows on NESN appear and record. Silly but it was one of the things I missed from DIRECTV so nice to have it.

Had a weird experience with MLB TV today in that I wasn't able to view the game at all. I have the app on my Roku but it only gave me the radio broadcast option. Then I tried the app on my tablet (dialing in from Iceland thru Nord) and I got a message saying that the game was blacked out.

I've watched other games this season with no trouble at all, but I couldn't find a workaround today. Is it me? Or does MLB block the "free game of the day" in the local markets?

Apologies if this has been addressed already

I have not been able to get the vpn angle to work today...when I have a vpn on, it says my login info is invalid. If they've figured a way to stop the vpn workaround I'll need to come up with something else...I watch enough other games that it's still worth having the package - but not being able to watch the Sox is terrible. I'll have to look into which streaming tv services have NESN.

I am using Nord VPN for second consecutive year. No problems to date. Last year seemed to have one random game every 2-3 weeks that would not work. You may need to log out, connect to another city, then do a new login.

I’m not getting notifications through the app on iOS. Anyone else experiencing this? I have it turned in in the app and in my settings.

I had the notifications on in Android for the first few days of the season. First I had to make them silent and ultimately turned them off. Too frequent and often superfluous information. It also notifies you of the Red Sox score while you may be watching behind live on another device so you have to ignore it or it becomes a spoiler.

I am also having the Go Live problem but I like the fact the pregame is showing. I got to see an opening day ceremony yesterday for the first time in quite a while.

Edit to add: I'd forgotten how many former Red Sox had passed away over the past year. It was a nice touch in the ceremony to mention all of them.

I switched to Nord VPN and it works now. I was using Unlimited VPN, so if you're vpn shopping, don't get that.

I’m using the mlb app on an Apple TV set up. I just restarted my account and when I click on watch game I keep getting a content unavailable screen. Logged out, logged in, rebooted Apple TV, same problem.

Any suggestions?

Well, I have it figured out. I had the same problem today, so I think it has something to do with the game being on MLB Network (the last game i posted about was also on MLBN).

I've been using my Galaxy Tab to watch the games and I haven't had any other problems. I just connect through Nord and I'm in business. With the games that are kn MLBN, I have to go into Dex mode on my tablet and then connect as I usually do, otherwise I can't get past the blackout.

Same thing happened to me. Delete the app (long click on the icon, play/pause button when shaking will bring up the options menu to delete), reinstall from the App Store.

Is there a way to choose in park audio only? Not tv or radio announcers. That would be awesome.

That worked! Thanks!
(Although the way they are hitting tonight maybe the app was doing me a favor)

Sure would be nice to be able to stream MLB Network through mlb.tv on trade deadline day. Apparently you need a tv provider to log in and Hulu isn’t on the list. Good job, MLB.

Always have wanted that feature. At the least, MLBTV should have a show feature geared towards trade deadlines and winter meetings. If they can give classic games to subscribers, they should be able to do this. And I say this as someone that believes MLBTV is far and away the best sports package on the market by far.

Completely agree. The league sure makes it difficult to consume its product between blackouts, deals for exclusive broadcasts with various providers, and everything else unless you're sitting on your couch with a TV hooked up to cable with MLBN, an ability to put Apple+ and MLB.tv on it, and probably something more that I'm missing.

Minor quibble with MLB.tv. They don't seem to be able to match the volume of the commercials to the volume of the game. I have to mute in between innings.
Of course, I'm not sure why I have to tolerate commercials at all on a service I pay a pretty steep price for. But that ship has sailed long ago.

Looks like they heard us. They’re streaming a trade deadline show now

There
It seems that MLB TV is blacking out the playoffs internationally. There is some uproar on international baseball Twitter this morning. Basically for me it means I can only watch whichever games happen to fall on the weekends and are on a domestic broadcast. Absolute horseshit.

I don't even understand what this means:
So, you can subscribe for $24.99 in the US, but you won't be able to watch unless you have a paid service provider already? This reads like a scam.

I subbed to Youtube TV for the playoffs (with the added benefit on national hockey games), but MLB marketing when it comes to making their product available is just abhorrent.

We have Hulu as our live tv provider and they’re not on the list. Even if we subscribed to cable, Spectrum isn’t on there either and they’re the only local option. Why must MLB be so freaking bad at this?

Right. And for people who have the companies on the list..... they already have access to the games. That's why I say it comes across as a scam to me, and I don't know how they get away with it.

Quite the nut-punch to wake up ready to watch some Sox-free postseason baseball and be told that I can't. I was listening to the Olbermann podcast yesterday and he mentioned this, did not say if it applied to Japan. Apparently it does. Edit: Okay, I can watch on my computer, but not on my AppleTV. This makes no sense.

I'm a t-mobile prepaid customer at their lowest level, and I get free MLB TV every year. So you can get MLB TV for $40 if you time your sign-up right. I suppose there's no guarantee that they'll include this benefit every year, but it's been going for at least five years.

And if you're not a t-mobile customer, there are a lot of them who aren't baseball fans and will sell you their code for $10 or so.

Source: I've been finding these on reddit/ebay/etc the last few years and saving lots of $$$!

On that note, if anyone here is a t-mobile customer and for some reason don't want to use your code, hmu!

Me 3. @sfip and I were chatting about this at the Fenway Bash last year. Slickdeals is 100% the way to go.
Great tip. Searching through old threads there, it looks like people will just post in a particular T-mobile themed thread if they are buying/selling? Or am I missing something more specific?

this is a welcome surprise
MLB.TV subscribers can watch more than 7,000 streamed games for affiliates of all 30 MLB clubs, including all 60 Triple-A and Double-A clubs, plus home games from more than 40 additional clubs and select postseason games through the First Pitch app along with select games from your favorite team’s affiliates in the MLB apps.

App upgrades and more video on demand
That isn’t all that’s new this season. Within the MLB mobile apps, a new Watch hub will be debuting for 2023 to make more video content available than ever -- both live programming and video on demand for fans' favorite teams and all of MLB.

Also coming to select connected devices this season is the big-screen Gameday mode, with advanced data and pitch-by-pitch details to immerse fans in the game.

The MLB.TV content library will also be packed with new episodes of original shows like "Baseball Zen" and "Carded," new shows like "Inside Stitch," baseball documentaries and more -- with expanded access to that library for MLB At Bat subscribers, too.

Of course, with MLB.TV, fans can watch every out-of-market regular-season game, as well as select Spring Training games, live online or on their favorite supported devices.

When streaming games, subscribers can choose between home and away feeds and watch games with live DVR and in-game playback controls like clickable box scores and live scoreboards.

All things considered, there may be no better value in sports than MLB.tv. Certainly for an out-of-market fan. The sheer volume of content, coupled with a great user experience, for $150 is such a great deal.
