California. Duh.
It's going to be quite a couple weeks in April:

5th: Benfica away (UCL)
10th: City away (League)
13th: Benfica at home (UCL)
16th (probably): City at Wembley (FA Cup)
19th: Man United at home (League)

Loving Klopp’s nefarious plan to get all his key guys rested over this international break.

The Athletic reporting Liverpool have signed Celtic’s 16 year old starlet Ben Doak for £600k.

To add to this, I hope Bobby signs a new deal and stays as a rotation player. No one in the world plays the false 9 like he does, and it’s such a perfect fit for Klopp’s system. He’s not big game starting XI quality anymore, but he’s invaluable as a sub and occasional starter.

Of course, all the rumors are about a new deal for Mo, nothing about Bobby or Mane. And it’s not clear what either of those guys wants. Both can still secure lucrative deals as starters on a Big 5 league. Mane probably has more suitors as a goal scorer; Firmino’s skill set is somewhat more unique and requires the right system to make full use of. Like, Bobby at Leeds or Southampton could be really something.

I haven't followed any news but from the outside it seems likely that Firmino just stays and runs his contract down. It feels like he has entered that area where its just hard to find a transfer that actually suits all parties. No club will pay much for a striker that is almost 31 and doesn't score a lot of goals, but he is probably more useful to Liverpool as an experienced backup than, say, an extra 10-15m that they might be able to get. At the same time, an acquiring club would have to offer him a really good deal right now - like a three year deal with very good money - for him to think that's a better option than leaving on a free in a year.

Next year will also be an absolute cluster in terms of fixture congestion so I think a lot of clubs will err on the side of bigger squads.

I agree with all that. Bobby probably runs down his deal and leaves to a club hero.

Mane, I suspect, will leave this summer. My guess is that he’ll draw solid interest and Mane will be motivated to settle a new contract before the crazy World Cup season. With Diaz in the fold, there is a replacement already in the system and new fund could go towards a back up RB and a few other spots…

I agree Mane is likely gone.I think Firmino will get the Honourary Year to Year James Milner Memorial Contract going forward . You have to think his value will only increase with the 5 subs rule.

Probably worth a discussion outside of this thread, but I can absolutely see 5 subs proliferating into late-game specialist sub "packages." Protecting a lead? Pull Jota, Diaz, and Jones for Milner, Gomez, and Thiago. Need a goal? Pull Matip, Henderson, and Jones, for Origi, Elliot, and whoever replaces Ox/Minamino. Give an instant new look and formation with the fresh legs to enforce it. Retain two subs for spot replacements and injuries.

PMGOL assigned Anthony Taylor as the center and Paul Tierney to VAR for the City clash. You can't make this shit up.

Two refs from Manchester who have been involved in incredibly controversial pro-City calls (like the Rodri handball). It's like Vince McMahon is in charge of ref assignments.

Was just coming to post about that... trying to find a tee time for Sunday so I can check in on the livescore instead of taking years off my life.

Guys there are no refs who are pro City. City fans are convinced Anthony Taylor is a United fan. Jokes for years about his fake support for Altrincham so he can give United decisions every year. Pointless to be wound up by this except that they’re all terrible refs liable to make match altering decisions in any direction

Tierney on VAR irks me a lot more than Taylor, and given the influence of VAR on outcomes, I'd really rather not. He and Kavanagh are the refs that give me the most heartburn by far.

Pool adds another young’un, finally completing a deal for Carvalho from Fulham - £5m up front, £2.7m in potential add ons, 20% sell on fee.

The wings are looking competitive.

He's universally recognized one of the dullest ex-footballers on the planet (which is saying something) - but even by current LFC ambassador and ex-Red Devil Michael Owen's standards, this quote is certainly something:

If I was a centre-forward and I came on so many times to save my manager, yet he never played me and he only brought me on occasionally, then I wouldn’t be giving the manager such a big cuddle
Not sure why FSG keep him around at this point

Oh fuck yeah. Michael Edwards is killing it on his way out. All that’s left is to extend Salah now…

Official press release
Liverpool Football Club is delighted to announce Jürgen Klopp has signed a new contract to extend his commitment with the club.

The deal means the manager will remain at the helm of the Reds beyond the expiry of his previous deal, which was set to end in 2024.

Assistants Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz have also put pen to paper on new terms, mirroring those of Klopp’s and reaffirming their dedication to the project, which began with the German’s appointment in October 2015.

Calling Klopp "the German" in the press release is somehow hilarious to me. Not "the manager" or "the gaffer." I love it.

I believe this is the first time an English club have made the final of the European Cup/Champions League and both the domestic cups in the same season. A step up from the 2000-01 Liverpool team that made the finals of the League Cup, FA Cup, and UEFA Cup (winning all 3).

JFC. That’s what we pass out to the U12s.

Edit: maybe if FSG can gouge a crypto sponsor to advertise on the jersey they can afford a better designer than VistaPrint.com

Spurs and Liverpool fans are not going to agree on much this weekend, but disgust at the dismal effort Nike puts into kit design for even its top clients is one thing you’ll get agreement on both sides.

At least when Adidas does your kits you get some stripes. Nike will be lucky if Haines doesn’t sue them for infringing on an undershirt cut.

I’d love to see some of the designs that were rejected.

I really miss the last couple New Balance kits. The red was spectacular.

So what does Klopp do now on Tuesday? I was expecting heavy rotation….like 8 or 9 guys. But with City stumbling slightly today, does he do something else now? I was half hoping City just ended it today and we could see the starters rested fully for the Champions League final.

Play your strongest side until it’s over. Yesterday’s lineup will do. If City drop points again the door is open. Assuming Salah is out I think it’s Diaz/Jota/Mane up top. Which kind of doesn’t work as Jota is better through the middle. I could see Firmino for Jota.
