My Steelers fan son-in-law: Yeah, but he can't play Sunday night.

Me: They'll have him raise the championship banner.

MSFSIL: They should make it an inflatable one.

Somebody get Jonathan Kraft on that!

As a side note, I seriously wonder how much joy Belichick gets out of the reaction to things like this.

I don't know the man but from what I do know of him, he may not be on the platforms. However I'd still like to believe he derives some happiness from just knowing that the salty tears and take quakes are going on in NFL media circles and social media.
It’s the greatest testament that everyone else in the league knows that he’s built something different.

Which is also why this will be fascinating no matter how it works. The idea is that a player knows what he’s signing up for, which is part of why the system works.

AB’s not wrong this is an opportunity to rewrite some story here. The point is that he’s aware of that, and that joining the Patriots has that potential. Joining any other team doesn’t have the same resonances. So let’s see what he does, eh?

Let’s go!

Well, that's it, isn't it? People are going to want the Pats investigated for tampering, but the crazy thing is that they don't seem to need to.
BB watches this madness unfold. Has always loved Brown - even offered Pit a trade in the offseason for him. He talks with his staff and prepares an offer that works for NE in case Brown gets cut.

Rosenhaus sees this madness unfold and tells Brown that he needs to think of some teams he might want to go to if the Raiders cut him. AB, who we know loved the idea of going to NE, says, "Call BB first."

When AB gets cut, five minutes later, Rosenhaus is on the phone with Bill, who gives him the offer.

Rosenhaus relays that to Brown, who says, great, sign me up. And it's done.

All that could have happened today in a half hour. No tampering. Just AB wanting to be here, and BB wanting him to be here, and them all having already thought through some concept.

Honestly, it could be just that simple.

It's been a while since my Twitter feed was primarily talking about one single topic.

AB is everywhere. The Belichick memes are real and spectacular.
Seven of the top ten Twitter trends right now are some angle on this.

Including “Steelers”. :kitty:

i know this totally against the run if the board's comments, but I'm a thousand percent against this. He will be cut as fast as it takes him to live stream the post game talk, which with his track record will happen soon. 9 million signing bonus? Wasted money.

He won't be able to help himself. I'll be surprised if he survives a 1/3 of the season.

I'll still root for the team, there is just no way I can root for this asshole. Give me a hundred Josh Gordons over one AB. Gordon is an addict whom I hope lives a long clean life disease free. AB is just an asshole. I think some days Belichick the GM makes it really hard on Belichick the Head Coach.

I agree! It looks like tampering, but it's just Brown manipulating the system with the tools at his disposal to get the outcome he wants.

I would bet that this is what happened. I would bet that the Pats were their first call, Bill made an offer, and they took it. Once that happened, Bill started to work on what needs to happen to fit the offer under the cap. There will be cries about cheating with no proof and it will just be sad.

Brady and Belichick are both in the top ten of trends.

Seoul is right, the Pats are playing Go and everyone else is playing checkers and missing a lot of pieces.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Jones extension was part of the plan not only to keep a quality player, but shed some 2019 cap space in anticipation of the Brown signing.

Guapo told us in a now locked thread — BB is painting a helmet and he’ll score 4 TDS against Steelers this week. Saved by one calendar day.

We

well it is really, sports fandom aside.
Well, there’s still the very real possibility that he’s been having a mental illness crisis of some sort.

So the question is: Does Bill have a plan for that?

My biggest fear with the Gordon trade last year is that he would become a productive member of the offense and then flake out and miss the most important part of the season. Which is exactly what happened. And they won the super bowl.

I don't like this signing but ultimately I'll probably be proven wrong by BB for like the 370th time or something like that.

I agree that this scenario is the most likely but regardless, if anyone thinks Belichick or the Patriots have some exposure here to any sorts of rules violations, color me shocked.

Regardless of whether you think there is some smoke to the "cheating" allegations or not, its a huge leap to think they would sign Brown without doing all the proper due diligence for the league precisely because of who is involved.

The toilet.
This was really well played by AB, amazingly enough. He went from a 2 year/$30mm deal to 1/$15mm. Gives up no money, plays for a better organization and now positions himself for a Julio Jones-like payday if he performs and keeps his nose clean. Yeah he's crazy; crazy like a fox.

No one is giving him a Jones payday.

Exactly. There's no way (I wouldn't think) that BB would do anything here to circumvent the rules, given the NFL's history of investigating the Pats for anything and everything. Imagine if they DID tamper, what the penalty would be on this, given their previous two penalties? Holy smokes. I cannot imagine BB would risk that.

Must have been why BB cut Bodine..just a step in the master plan

The whole point is to see the NFL fans lose their mind. It’s happening and it’s glorious

When I saw Brown was released I just knew BB would jump on this because it’s what he does. Also guessed the 1/15 because it seemed right for some reason in my head.

This is one of those moves where, it kind of sounds like a terrible idea in advance, having no information about AB & Bellichick's desires. But once it becomes clear that both parties are on board, it's fucking awesome.
This is where I am at - didn’t want him at all on the team but thinking of him actually playing with Brady is extremely exciting

$9 million guaranteed is less money.

Yes, when I want to teach my children values, the first place I turn to is the NFL.
These takes are the worst.

Given the odious nature some of the people who run the league as well as more than a few players who have successfully preserved their careers/paychecks despite being caught committing domestic violence, assaulting people or engaging in other violent or potentially violent crimes (e.g. drunk driving), the fact that the Brown situation is one step too far speaks volumes about the take.

Put simply, the people with this sort of take don't give a damn about kids or morality. Instead, its straight up bitterness that a dominant franchise is able to use its success to attract even more talent. And their priorities are way out of whack.

Fucking fuck. This is absolutely amazing. I've received no less than 100 texts since this happened. Most of them of the "are you fucking kidding me?" variety from angry fans of other teams.
