Plus...Chevys suck. The Chico's Bail Bonds sponsors of the EPL. For premiere team like ManU to have such a mundane sponsor really puzzles me.

Reports tonight saying Nike will end their sponsorship this year with United, paving the way for Adidas to take over.

Please, God, do not let Warrior get the kits...

If that rumor is true, is Nike pulling out of England? It doesn't seem smart with the EPL being insanely popular both in the US and in Asia. Dropping two of the most widely supported clubs in a 2-3 year span does not seem like the best business decision.

Well they'd still have City so who knows.  From what I've read, United are demanding too much from them (basically doubling their sponsorship AAV)

I'm trying to ignore it because it really depresses me but it seems like there's an awful lot of smoke about Vidal to you guys.  He's absolutely what you need, it would seriously improve your XI

Are Liverpool fans going to hold on to last season the way they hold on to their titles from 20 years ago?

Maybe you should try finishing within 20 points of Liverpool before accusing us of holding on to last year.

Shouldn't be too hard this year now that you didn't get your 100M pounds for Suarez...

I can't believe Zomp tried to throw shade at SEGA like those gold Arsenal SEGA kits arent in the GOAT pantheon of great awful kits.

The thing that really, really interests me about next season is the question... if Utd manage to get back into the CL, who drops out?  City seem unlikely to drop out of the top four, and Chelsea seem to have bought reasonably well.  That leaves a three-way scrap for third and fourth between Arsenal, Liverpool, and United that none dares to lose.

It'll be between Liverpool and United, in my opinion. I give United the upper hand too, especially if they get Vidal and others.

Minutes ago the club just announced a 10-year deal with Adidas.  The deal is worth 75 MILLION POUNDS PER SEASON.  More than double any other club's sponsorship deal (Real Madrid held the record with a 30 million pound deal).

Between Chevrolet and Adidas, the club now generates 130 million pounds PER SEASON through those two sponsorships.

That is insane.

Holy f'in Moly. How does that compare with big commercial deals in US sports?

Be interesting to see how much of that cash makes its way into the transfer market and how much to Florida.

Honestly, I have no idea.  I believe jersey sponsorships here are league wide (Nike makes NFL).

I do have a bit of concern about the money going towards the debt and I'm sure some will, but that number is so big I don't think it will matter.

Even if half that annual figure goes to debt service, the overall sponsorship profit has gone up by an exponential amount. Given ManU's dominance of the Asian market, even these deals don't give them maximum profit value.

So, I guess the transfer budget is a billion. Anyone and everyone is on the table for LVG's big balls.

andersred is a good follow on twitter, he's an economist that loves United and constantly tweets about the Glazers, debt, etc...  The Guardian and BBC have had him in for articles and opinions.  He just tweeted that because of this deal, the debt goes from taking 75% of the club's annual profit to 15%.

Stunning.

The debt jokes are dead and buried; this team can spend dollar for dollar with the petrol club now.

When I first saw this info online I clicked on a link that took me straight to ManU's website. I now feel violated and unclean and in need of immediate therapy. I couldn't have felt worse if I'd been successful in my application to meet Jimmy Saville when I was a kid. I need a lie down.

They have already outspent City and Chelsea in aggregate over the last couple windows.

That's a fuck ton of money for a kit deal. Overall, the money pouring into the top clubs - new TV deal, new kit deals, other commercial revenue - is really ridiculous right now.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens at United over the next few years.  A lot really points to them becoming a Galactico club, which, despite spending plenty over the last decade, they weren't really under Ferguson.  But LVG doesn't strike me as a Galactico manager - he's a guy who wants to rule with an iron fist and whose inclination has always been toward bringing along and developing younger players.

But he's also aging and a couple more titles for the all-time resume probably appeals to his ego. So, ignoring youth and collecting stars to augment what is already in place (while pointing proudly to Phil Jones as a "homegrown United guy") makes lots of sense.
