Here
It seems from the last paragraph of the agent article like the Sly guy who is the main source has recanted. So I'm not sure this is going anywhere.
Manning's agent has confirmed that Manning's wife received HGH in her name, but claims Peyton wasn't using them. He cited privacy when asked why she was taking them. So we know at least part of the story is true.

Somewhere
HuffPo posted this story 45 minutes ago. Still haven't seen it anywhere other than Twitter. Nothing yet on ESPN, PFT, Fox, etc.

If Brady was linked to a doping scandal, I'm thinking things would be a little different.

Edit - Just to be clear, this story doesn't bother or shock me. I'd bet 80% of NFL players are on something. Shit, I've been on TRT since turning 40. Most all of my friends in Southern California are on that or HGH. I'm just stating that if this was Brady, this story would be viral in 3 minutes.
Al Jazeera broke the story, IIRC.

Can't imagine that Peyton is the only guy. But if this was true, he's pretty dumb about his illegal drug buying. Must be taking advice from Jim Irsay.

Read the article. Many other players named.

I love how the media seems to be all "come on now, let's wait until the facts come out", when some were already discussing a possible Super Bowl suspension for Belichick/Brady 30 minutes after the Kravitz tweet. Not that they are wrong in taking this approach in Manning's case.

Wouldn't it be a 4 game suspension per the CBA?

You mention you are tired of faux scandal and then introduce a faux scandal.

We rip the NFL reporters for jumping the gun, then when they don't we cry foul against the Pats? Hopefully they learned something over 10 months.
For fucks sake I was using a little obvious hyperbole to point out the difference in the level of outrage this would likely engender if it was Brady involved. Their lack of jumping the gun, so far, in Manning's case, is the point.

Clay Matthews?!!?

From the article.

“We just used Delta-2 because it wasn’t detectable,” Sly says.

Sly also says that he provided Clay Matthews, Green Bay’s Pro Bowl linebacker, with the prescription painkiller Percocet to help him deal with pain before at least one game. He also brags in one undercover video that Matthews texted him in an attempt to obtain Toradol, a powerful painkiller that is banned in many countries but not in the United States."

Count me in the camp That I don't care if he used HGH.
But I found this tweet to funny.

What's a bigger story? That Peyton Manning was doing illegal drgs or that he did NOT get them from Jim Irsay?

So Peyton's wife is gonna fall on the sword now huh? Maybe Peyton "mis-remembered".

A few quick thoughts.

We here jump all over stories when they first break without knowing all the facts almost as fast as ESPN on an anti-Patriots story (of course we don't have the responsibility that a "news" agency does, I just mention this to frame the rest of the thought) so I'm going to wait before I BAHAHA.

If he did use HGH, I understand to a point. We all make bad decisions in life - I certainly have - so I won't judge him too harshly. That said, I'm pretty anti-PEDs/HGHs, etc. It's cheating and, worse, makes many athletes that don't want to use feel like they must to stay competitive. Anyhow, if true, it's bad, but, to me, not anywhere on the same level as, e.g., domestic abuse.

With all that out of the way, here is what I think this story is/should be really about: how do the NFL, ESPN, and other news outlets that character assassinated Brady and the Patriots over nothing, react? I'd break out the popcorn if it wasn't more likely than not that I'd wind up puking it all back up all over myself.

I would pay real money to watch Rachel Nichols interrogate Bill Polian on this.

My reaction kind of depends on the dosing and the purpose. At a low dose, hgh has healing properties for some injuries, though it can exacerbate others. At a high dose, it's great for gaining strength and muscle. If he was trying to get over injuries im meh on this, if he was dosing enough to affect his performance then it's the worst thing ever b

I'm a Peyton hater since his days at UT but I do not care about this at all. I would take every drug imaginable if I was a pro athlete and I could beat the test and I viewed the cost benefit favorably.

Going to be a lot more manufactured outrage if this story has legs.

Also - right now this is just in schadenfreude territory for me, but if Douchebag throws his wife under the bus, that would be pretty fucking despicable.

Why didn't Peyton just use deer antler spray?

Or follow the magical rehab regimens of Adrian Peterson and Wes Welker?

ESPN and the NFL will ignore this not just because it's Peyton but because nobody wants to inspire digging into PED use in the league.

Frankly, I think the ESPNFL would try to kill this story if it involved Brady too.

I love knowing nobody's been popped for hgh since the NFL started testing. Im betting that's most commonly used. And it works best with a test back.

I don't care if he used or not. I can't help but wonder how ESPN and others would report this if it were Brady. Double standard is protecting the favorite son. There would be no " wait until the facts come out"commentary I'm guessing.

Damn, MMSp, that's actually a really good point.

I say "damn" because, if this story has legs, they'll probably manufacture another -gate about the Patriots for distraction.

ESPN would be cutting into regularly scheduled programming if it was Brady. Can barely wait for Tony Dungy and his reaction Sunday night.

Watching the Bob's Auto Body Shit Bowl on WWL right now, and the items in THE LEAD crawl were:

-Blake Griffin torn muscle, out 2 weeks
-Steph Curry named AP Male Athlete of the Year
-Victories by Va Tech and Duke in the Only Our Parents are Watching Bowls
-Hoyer out Sunday
-Kentucky vs Louisville

I'm fine with the league taking Peyton Manning at his word... if the league is also prepared to take Tom Brady at his word. (Brady, of course, made his statements under oath).

Maybe everything Peyton says is true... but if the level of evidence that triggered the "independent" Wells report against the Patriots and Brady is the league's standard, well, that standard has clearly been met here and there should be a similar league investigation into Manning. I mean, there was HGH in his home. Unlike Brady's case, there is a mountain of evidence that Peyton got a major performance boost around this time - so there is a major unresolved issue of competitive integrity. Beyond that, the league should be prepared to make adverse inferences if Peyton and his wife are anything less than 100% forthcoming on all questions. (If his wife was on HGH, that alone doesn't prove that Peyton was not; indeed one could read it the other way - he had a supply of the stuff in his house, that spells opportunity).

When the league walks balk its foolishness around Brady and drops its appeal of Berman's ruling, then I'll be fine with the league letting this incident go uninvestigated as well.

Come on guys, it's not like the Colts have any history of prominent people in their organization being involved with illegal drugs, nor do the Broncos have any history of engaging in team-sanctioned acts that compromise the integrity of the game.

There is no reason to mention this charge at all.

Is there anyone in this forum who would think differently about Peyton if the allegations are true? He was never a white knight around here to begin with and this seems like a pretty easy thing to look past when you consider the position he plays, the injury he had and the timing.

Obviously many of us are going to watch the media and the NFL's handling going forward.
Exactly. This has NOTHING to do with Manning, quite frankly. I don't give a rat's ass and honestly don't blame the guy.

This has EVERYTHING to do with what the fuck the NFL, ESPN, Peter King (LOLOLOLOL), and so many others are going to do now. Really, Goodell, you're still gonna try and appeal Brady's decision after this?

Oh this is so glorious! SO GLORIOUS! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
