His voice is fine, but he's kind of a homer - a bit condescending to the audience at times. He's overly pally with athletes, like he's got to include himself in some imaginary club. He also tries to be a co-color-person, and will sometimes try to lead to whatever conclusion that he wants, instead of just saying (smoothly) "You know more than me - talk." You heard it a lot with some of the guys they rotated into the booth last year - Eck kept him in check, mostly. Can someone explain to me the vitriol toward O'Brien? I've always liked him. He seems perfectly fine and non-controversial. Of course, I'm a 52 year-old white guy.
When paired with someone appropriate he's OK. But I don't really need the guy's personal opinions on anything. When I hear him say - "That's really interesting, tell us more," it'll probably be the first time.
