I really hope this isn't true. Big fan of Mo, Sox fan or otherwise.

Yankees legend Mariano Rivera and his wife Clara are being accused of covering up the sexual abuse of an underage girl.
According to a new lawsuit, the unidentified girl was abused by an older girl in 2018 at a Florida camp affiliated with the church founded by the Riveras in New Rochelle, New York.
The abuse also allegedly happened at the Riveras home - then by a church leader in 2021 and 2022.

If it's true, Mo should have to swim laps in his own pool.

In seriousness, this would be horrible not just because it would be an unspeakable crime, but because Mo was universally considered one of the game's truly decent people.

Eh....

He also had a secret second family that he also wasn't paying child support to. He has always had the persona of being Mr. Pious Super Christian guy. But he isn't.

In that article, Rivera denies the story. It’s unclear to me whether he’s denying that he had this other family or that he wasn’t paying child support. Easy here ever corroboration for this story?

He is taking issue with the unpaid child support claim. He doesn't deny the secret family anymore.

I had to Google this reference, and I'm shocked that I've never heard this story. Especially considering it happened right before the 2004 ALCS.

I feel a little bad for laughing at this.
I've always thought it was so weird how effectively this disappeared. Well maybe not weird at all, actually.

When it broke it was like hold on, he electrified his pool? The fuck for?! And then the answer came down in subsequent reporting--it was to keep his dogs out of the pool.

Ohhhhh.
.....
Wait.

Right? Like wouldn't it just kill the dogs like it did to the people?

Can dogs sense the electricity or something?

At this point in life, not much shocks me. But this one sort of did(I hadn't known about the second family story). And then I remembered virtually all of my fondness(maybe the only Yankee I ever liked) for him was based on him graciously doffing his cap for 30 seconds when he was sarcastically cheered at the home opener in 2005. He gets to defend himself against the accusations, yada, yada, but it's really just reason no. 1,000,000,000 to never invest too much in these people, other than enjoying watching them perform.

I, for one, am shocked that a super-duper publicly self-aggrandizing faux-pious “Christian” is a piece of shit in real life.

They do seem to have a high rate of shitgibbonism.
Selfishly, this (I was also not aware of the secret family) does sour me an ounce or two on one of my all-time favorite Fenway moments — the opening day 2005 standing ovation.
