Also the first Asian-American GM (edited).

She's totally badass. Among other things, at 26, with no arbitration experience, she took on Scott Boras and won, setting a record as first woman and younger person to win such a case:

Well deserved and looking forward to seeing what she can do in that franchise.

Wow, that's the nicest gift basket Jeter has ever given...I kid, I kid. Ng is incredible and this is well-deserved. I remember how impressed the Dodgers were with her. It's sad it's taken this long for her to break through.

The other coolest thing is that the Marlins have Caroline O'Connor who is their Senior VP. She is the highest-ranking woman in pro sports. It's not easy to applaud Derek Jeter but damnit, exceptional work Jetes.

I don't believe so. What about Farhan Zaidi?

In any case, she's a veteran baseball executive who has risen through some of baseball's most successful franchises, and it's great to see her get a shot in a leadership role.

You're right... Went back and looked at the article I read and it actually said "Asian-American", so I guess they're differentiating since Zaidi is from Canada.

As I posted in the other thread, this is fantastic news. I hope she has great success and is quickly snapped up by a much better franchise!

The only downside is that now Jeter will get the Branch Rickey treatment.
I mean, the two situations pale in comparison (on-field vs front-office, vehemence of anti-black racism in 1947 vs anti-asian racism today, being the first in baseball vs the first in pro sports e.g. Amy Trask), but to the extent that they can be compared... he'll deserve it. 29 other franchises had the chance to do this first, and did not. I'm not sure I've ever had a higher opinion of something Derek Jeter has done.

The flip was pretty.... pretty good, pretty good. Why he was there? Who knows, but he was.

I've seen her name come up in discussions of a bunch of other GM jobs only to not get it, and this time I heard zero discussion of her for the role (probably because, well, Marlins) and she got it. Jeter may have seen first-hand how she works as she was an assistant to Cashman from 1998-2001 (I have no idea how much she interacted with players in the role, but for comparison Raquel Ferreira, one of the few other women to have had the same position, was deemed absolutely essential in getting the Bogaerts deal done). Good for them and good for her.

Kim Ng not only brings a wealth of front office experience to the Marlins, she also has 165 more Defensive Runs Saved than Derek Jeter.

I love her just for the Boras scenario alone; kudos to her, so well deserved, kudos to the Marlins as well for recognizing her talent, I wish her nothing but the best.

Read a great article in The Athletic this morning. She is obviously the most qualified person for this job. Her resume is outstanding. Smartest person in the room type.
