I know they’ve played two juggernauts back to back but my goodness do Arsenal look horrible in defense

What is Arteta doing? As in, what is Arteta-ball? Don’t watch them enough to know but he’s got good players. Not City level but they shouldn’t be torn apart so easily

Arteta ball.

Loan Saliba so you can start a Kolasinac-Holding-Chambers back line.

Play a completely new formation the players clearly haven’t trained for against the best team in the league.

Be on the verge of canceling Kolasinac’s contract and sending him to Fenerbahce then start him two matches in a row.

Guy just needs to go. None of it is defensible in the slightest.

I don’t know if there’s a score line bad enough for him to get fired today but if it gets much worse he may be managing for his job next week

Arsenal seem to never be ready to play. You know the period at the start of game where things look shakey for a the first 5-10 minutes then the team settles in and plays the way they are supposed to. Well this team never settles in.

Ok, so every broadcast probably mentioned this at some point, but I stopped watching at 12' to do more productive things

When was the last time Arsenal got bageled 3 times to open a season?

I had my "surprise underperformer" in the standings thread being Arsenal 8th..... maybe I was too generous

Granit Xhaka is an idiot. He gets a clear red card and he’s angry with the guy he fouled????
Everyone knows he does this a couple times per season, yet they just gave him a contract extension and a raise!

So … if this ends up as an absolute thrashing … let’s say 8-0 … is that the end for Arteta?
To fire a guy a couple weeks after you let him invest in a bunch of new players who cost 150 million would be nonsensical, contradictory, chaotic, could lead to massive financial waste, and would confirm that you have absolutely no plan for how you are running your club.

So I could see it happening.

Everton against the run of play. Damn.

They’re obviously being rewarded for having an outstanding away kit.

As ever, Brighton have to turn possession into goals.

Very entertaining game between Palace and West Ham for a neutral. Antonio continuing to do Antonio things and Conor Gallagher keeping Palace in it

Liverpool v Chelsea lineups out. Robbo gets the start while VVD & Matip draw Lukaku duty. And Elliott is back in the midfield. Welcome to the big time, kiddo. To me, Bobby starting is about his defensive duties and ability to congest the midfield - that is, prevent the kinds of backline direct to Lukaku passes that wrecked Arsenal - and trying to keep Jorginho off the ball.

IMO, this is also Chelsea’s strongest lineup at the moment. Should be a great clash.

That second half was a lot better than the first. I think there may have been some clenched sphincters in the survival pool when Guehi’s header went in stoppage time. Nice to see Palace come back in a game it looked like they had no business being in in the first half.

Mount just did a picture perfect Cruyff turn on the full volley. Sick

Lukaku just dropped VVD to the ground with a half nudge. Even if Liverpool win, VVD is gonna feel like he lost a fight.

Hard to tell if that was great skill by Havertz or incredible fortune. Probably a bit of both.

Probably made the change due to injury, but in the first half it felt like Liverpool needed a more typical striker on the field to generate better chances. Firmino was playing really deep.

Well, Bobby was basically inside Jorginho’s jersey, so there’s a trade off.

Red card for the ball bouncing up and hitting James's arm?

I guess that's the rule, but it seems an awfully harsh penalty for something completely unintended.

I don’t know enough, that seems accidental to me (should still be a penalty though as it stops the ball from going in). But can you give that as a penalty and not a red? The red seems harsh.

It did look that James was also throwing his whole arm forward to push the ball off the line, even after the quick deflect off his thigh.
