astride the divide
I have every intention of waking up in five hours for Brighton's ridiculous 5:30 a.m. MDT kickoff at the Amex against Spurs, but I figured I'd start the thread early just in case.

Brighton is showing signs of ambition and creativity under new boss Graham Potter, but the goals haven't followed. Possession and passing stats are all well above last season's brush with relegation. They are generally playing three in the back and two up front, which lately has not included old donkey Glenn Murray. Spendy Belgian Leandro Trossard hurt his groin (ouch!) over the last international break and is expected back after this next one. He was impressive early in the season and I'm hopeful the goals will come when he returns.

Spurs are reeling, but I don't have to tell you that. Brighton is punching up here, but it's a good chance to try to nick a point or three at home.

It was a lively start by Brighton, but they've kinda went into their shells a bit. They have to cut out the needless sloppy passes. Make Spurs force their way back into the game.

Only turned on 10 minutes ago, but Brighton look incredible. They are breaking the press with smooth ball movement and pressing effectively themselves. If you didn’t know the teams, you’d guess the Seagulls are the top 6 side in this match.

Good on Brighton there. They're kicking Spurs when they're down. It's great to see. Good value for their two nil lead.

I think that was the worst half of football Spurs have played in years, maybe since Poch got there.

This reminds me of the performances right before AVB got fired, or when Chelsea quit on Mourinho.

Well this is officially the season from hell. What a disappointment.

Brighton were excellent. They surprised me with a lot of their forward play. They've got some good creative young players, and they work hard. They can take a lot from this match.

The Spurs players, on the other hand, should hang their heads in shame.

I don’t even understand how you go from CL Final to quitting on Poch in 3 1/2 months.
I genuinely feel bad for Spurs fans.

Not the worst start to the weekend... Potter intends for Brighton to play a very attractive, fluid style. These are by and large the same players that were instructed by Chris Houghton to bunker and white-knuckle it through the PL. They’re coming around. In my dreams they’re a top 10 side with a fairytale shot at Europe every 5 seasons. Still surreal to have days like this feel almost normal.

i was really impressed by how they cut through the Spurs high press with quick passing. Everyone was on the same page about how to move and move the ball. Great coaching job.

It sure seems like the mid table and occasionally the low table teams are competing at a high level this season. I know it's early but 8 weeks in I am seeing a lot more competitive matches. This is good for the league.

Mané showing some great commitment defensively, two great tackles on Chilwell to prevent the ball being swung in

That was a Harry Kane-esque "dive" in that there was marginal contact that Mane exaggerated to make sure it got called.
