Yeah the AFC is a monster conference. I think the Patriots are going to be good, but it's going to be a HUGE uphill climb just to make the playoffs this year.

Is the trade really Matt Ryan for a third-round pick?

I guess it was a down year for him in Atlanta and he is getting old; but he has been an extremely reliable, Top 10 QB, for a very long time.

So in the past 12 months the Falcons have managed to turn the two best players in franchise history into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks. Awesome.

Wentz had better numbers last year. Be interesting to see what happens in ATL.
Probably as a result of the offensive line, running game, and surrounding talent. Flip their situations and Wentz probably would have been a disaster in Atlanta.

I don't know if Andrew Luck ends up being a Hall of Famer (I don't think his career was long enough for that, though he was a good player obviously), but the Colts have always seemed to have had a really good QB - Peyton, Luck, and now Ryan. Yeah a couple of stinkers thrown in there but that's an impressive run at that position for one organization.

Colts are in GFIN mode, and Ryan is a big upgrade on Wentz from quality and leadership perspectives.

A third rounder is an easy asset to part with.

Hope CP is working. I’d like a wellness check

not a fan of him going to the Colts but this is probably better for him getting another playoff game

Before I repeated my junior year and finished high school in Vermont I was in Matt Ryan’s grade at Penn Charter - always want him to do well. I think he was good last year but had a bad offense around him most of the year. I love this move for the Colts and Matt Ryan. Wish him the best of luck.

Such a great landing spot for Ryan. Divison sucks. OL is great. Stud RB. Stays in a dome. Guessing they'll find additional WRs in the draft to add to Pittman. All in all, he's earned one final stretch.

While the AFC continues to get better, the NFC South now has 3 teams without starting QBs and a draft that has very little in the way of QB prospects. Brady can go 9-8 and make the playoffs.

I really thought the Colts were going to bring in Jimmy G. I think Ryan is probably a better acquisition since the Colts have a good line.

Am I really the only one who watched Ryan the last couple years and thought he was regressing? I guess he is still an upgrade over Wentz but ... I dunno. Not seeing this as elevating this offense to the same level as many here.

Has there been any non-Brady QB past 30 who has not regressed?

Don't think it's just a matter of elevating the offense. Ryan is unlikely to make the type of bonehead mistakes Wentz made to lead them out of a playoff spot

The Falcons might not win a game this season. That's a bad roster top to bottom and Ryan was the only thing keeping them somewhat afloat.

I don’t watch a lot of Falcons games but he was a mess in that pats game and was pissed and looked like he wanted to retire in the 4th quarter. I don’t judge him on that game but it wasn’t a good sign. His team sucked and he hated what he was playing

I no particular order:

1. Mahomes
2. Allen
3. Wilson
4. Watson
5. Burrow
6. Lamar Jackson
7. Herbert
8. Ryan
9. Carr
10. Lawrence
11. Tannehill/Mac?

I've been wondering which is the NFC team positioning itself for a long run of conference dominance. The Pack, the Rams and the Bucs will all likely be strong in 2022 and maybe 2023, but they were both built for now, not later. Can Jerry stay out of his own way and make the Cowboys that team? San Fran?

He was on a much better team.

Word is Mariota is a name to watch for ATL

This is weird to me. Yes, Mariota played for Smith in Tennessee ... but those offenses were lousy, until they replaced Mariota with Tannehill and got immediately and dramatically better.

That wasn't a very good offensive team that ATL was putting out there for much of the season.
OL / run game is very good in Indy but their receivers are worse than NE's.

No, me too. I don't think he's much above average any more and he has no upside. Calling him top 10 is crazy to me.

Why would you list Lawrence ahead of Mac at this point?

If true that's probably something Indy's looking to improve, especially now that Ryan's on the roster. Out of curiosity would Wentz have been part of that issue?

I think he's probably 10 going into the season, but I can see the case for Tannehill. Lawrence has the ceiling, but he showed so little floor last year I can't see putting him above Mac who was a solid NFL QB.

The more interesting takeaway is that the AFC has way better QBs, good case 12 of the top 18 QBs are in the AFC.

I think Ryan's best days are behind myself and am not convinced he can lead Indy to the playoffs. We'll see, staying in a dome is a huge advantage for him though. People around here were all over me for saying I didn't want anything to do with Julio Jones a couple of years ago, coming out of a dome and into the elements. This is the opposite of that, but I don't think Ryan is the massive upgrade over Wentz that others seem to believe.

That said, the price was low because Atlanta was over a barrel. If they didn't make the move literally today, they were paying Ryan a 7.5 million dollar roster bonus tonight.

So who's left w/o a QB? ... Saints, Falcons, Seahawks? ... Panthers still have Casper and Texans seem to like Mills

Winston signed with the Saints.

Falcons and Seahawks. Although Seattle did get Lock back in the Wilson trade.

Saints just signed Jameis to fairly good money, Steelers have Trubisky, but have to think they're open to an upgrade. NYG have Jones, but considering they were in on Trubisky they definitely are open to upgrade.

Saints just brought back Jameis. I think it's Atlanta, Seattle, Carolina, and Pittsburgh with obvious immediate needs. Then you get several teams that could improve or need a guy for the near future.

Why aren't they trying to get Gardner Minshew?
Because they want a top 2 pick in 2023 draft and get a QB that way. They'll probably sign some random FA to compete with Lock. I don't think they want to spend any draft capital on QB in 2022.
