This sort of proves that if you put your head down, do your job, and exemplify what it takes to be a great teammate, you can get a nice little deal from the Patriots even if your only real role on the team is with special teams. 2/$4 to pretty much just be a gunner? Not bad.

Doesn't Slater seem like one of those rare guys that when he retires we're going to get an unusually long media session out of Belichick gushing about how much he loved coaching him?

I'm going to guess he will get the Bruschi treatment.

I think he ends up climbing the coaching tree after his playing career ends.

I dont know how the contract is structured, but he was just offered a substantial amount more than they offered Blount last off season.  He's worth every penny.

that's what I think s well. I can also see him getting a doctorate somewhere and be a professor.

Driving in the snowstorm, I heard his radio interview with Gresh & Zo. The first question was about how it feels to sign a new deal, etc. Congrats!

Answer: 'Thanks but I don't want to get into that. I'm really focused on Green Bay and what it will take to compete with them on Sunday.' (not verbatim)

Cut that first sentence and chance the second "I" to "we"...and it was Belichick moments after a big win. From all accounts, Slater is a football obsessive and his use in, literally, all three phases speaks to how much he information/film he consumes, how broad his knowledge base is and how well-regarded by the coaches he is for his work ethic.

Chuck has to convince me bi-weekly that we should cover someone other than Slater. He's a borderline HOF quality coverage guy (Bates, DeOssie, Tasker in my era) and deserves every penny and more for what he brings to the team.
