Well, there's still food, flowers, birds, and love, so we're not completely dependent on the Sox for amusement.
Still, it's better when they win. This is a very tiring time of year for me, putting in the garden, so at the end of the day, I think I "deserve" a win.
Geaux, Sox!

Finally, the Sox get to face an actual bad MLB team, not just a good team in a slump. Seems like it's been nothing but good team after good team all season.

I wonder what their record would be if their opponents strength was “normalized”- including not catching bad teams playing great (Pittsburgh) and “bad teams” that are actually good- and finally playing up to potential when the Sox face them….(St. Louis).
I know these things supposedly normalize due tk the long season (maybe they’ll catch the Rangers playing like crap or injured?)…. But they really haven’t played a bad team yet. I might say the Twins could be the worst they’ve faced so far.

Now that I’ve seen the Cincinnati matchup tonight- it looks like they’re catching a good opposing starter! Another illusory thing about strength of schedule. A team could roll into Boston and have their best 3 starters lined up, then head to the Toilet and the Yankees face that teams no. 4, 5 and 1.

Game 54
The Boston teams wearing sneakers and skates
both suffered sorrowful game-seven fates,
and now that the Garden lights have gone dark,
our lonely eyes turn to dear Fenway Park.
The Red Sox return from their journey West.
(The 4 and 5 road trip was not their best.)
We're 9 and a 1/2 games out in the East.
We've little hope there, but we're still at least
right in the mix of this year's playoff chase.
We're just 3 games out in the wild card race.
We've got reinforcements headed our way,
a likable team, and lots left to play.
Let's use our hustle, our heart, and our heads.
The hunt for October starts with the Reds.

There was the Tiger series. But that is it, I think, because we're far enough into the year to be able to say that the Pirates are not shit.

I'm hoping the Sox stay focused this series.... and not thinking about settling the score this weekend.

The City of Boston needs a "pick me up" today after last night. Please win.

He completely went away from the fastball as that inning went on and was just throwing sliders and sinkers with no command. They never have him work off the fastball.

How many times have we seen this? The first 2 batters go after pitches immediately andf then it's up to Turner to try to take a few so it's not absurdly easy for the opposing pitcher in the first. (Which it was anyway - 10 pitches)

It was still absurdly easy. Good things happen to pitchers who throw strikes, although I was surprised that they couldn't make hay out of one right down the middle of the plate.

“Duran was part of a player-related swing-and-miss incident when his bat failed to make contact with a baseball which was thrown in his direction.”
