Currently Everton 0 Sunderland 1 in the 79th minute.  The relegation competition is wild--Sunderland will go out of the relegation zone and into 14th if this score holds.

It's stunning to me that there is no outrage (that I can detect) over Johnson playing. I can't even think of a comparable situation in any sport (and, actually, any comparisons I think about making would just get everyone angry).

Anyway, I'm rooting for Sunderland to go down, but now that seems unlikely.

Newcastle have been stuck on 35 points for 70 days.

On February 28, they were 17 points ahead of Leicester.  If current results hold, they'll be 2 points behind Leicester.

By the way, if you have NBC Live Extra, go watch Riyad Mahrez's opener for Leicester.  Sweet.

Kobe playing seems way worse, no?

I'm dreading the end of this game. I feel like someone told me Slocumb is warming up in the pen. Relegation futbol is fantastic.

Of course, the crossbar and the one-on-ones aren't helping.

Future Liverpool disappointment Danny Ings gave Newcastle some hope by putting Burnley ahead at Hull.  I think that's Burnley's first goal in seven games.

Tuned in to the Toon West Brom match...it's tense, but a point would be a decent result, a breakthrough, a start, sommat for the fans to chew on as they try to keep their taches out their ale. Newcastle had the ball around the West Brom 18 yard line, they were patient, they tried this they tried that...no penetration...an aimless cross was mopped up. I looked at West Brom's shape; tight, solid, compact and thought, man they're really good at parking the bus, then i remembered who their manager was.

West Brom are a threat on the counter attack, so Newcastle can't really go all out...and a point ain't too bad. Come on the Toon.

Since Boyd's screamer against City on March 14. They'd lost their last 5 games 1–0 before today, and with Newcastle's draw, they're guaranteed bottom three.

Looks like United go with the 4-3-3 with Blind in the Carrick role and Rooney back up front.  Di Maria isn't on the bench.  LVG says he picked up a knock in training but his future looks bleak (though to be fair, so did Fellaini's).

Could use a win...just sayin'

Do you think it hit his chest?

No, I think it was a natural movement as the ball dipped away from him. Oliver could have waved it off.

It wasn't an egregious call, it just wasn't a necessary call - if that makes sense.

I think once the defenders arm moves away from his body Oliver doesn't have a choice.  But like you I think it was 50/50.

Luke Shaw, who is concussed, has NO luck.

Real Madrid just tied it up in the 83rd minute with a great goal from Isco. But they need to win.

California. Duh.
Negredo missed a couple chances to put it away for Valencia, now Isco puts in a great shot from outside the box to equalize.  6 minutes of normal time left.

Real 2-2 Valencia.

Barca leads the league by 4 points with 2 games to go.  Sevilla now has a chance to get within a point of Valencia in 4th.

Fuck off Financial Doping FC.

I love to hate Man U. Arsenal are respectable. But I have nothing but contempt for Chelsea, from how that shitstain Ken Bates built them up from Millwall North, to the billions in Russian blood money that propped them up, to its reliance on insufferable human beings like John Terry and Jose Mourinho. Chelsea is a carbuncle on football's ass. It's as legitimate a champion as Lance Armstrong.

This is the definition of limping to the finish line but that was a huge win.
Another 3 points for David DeGea. That guy is amazing. I thought Palace would have deserved a point, but DeGea made a couple of amazing saves just on Murray.

So many salvageable points dropped, have to think Rodgers is on at least the warm seat.

The oscillation down the stretch between the effective back 3 and horrendous back 4 (with heavy doses of Glen Johnson while Moreno/Manquillo are stapled to the bench) is pretty defining for me, and I wouldn't be against it costing his job.

Especially if Klopp is interested :fonz:

An NBC Sports channel just popped up on my AppleTV, making the EPL that much easier to flip on.  I had been using a computer to Airplay it to the TV, but this is 1-2 steps more convenient.  Now if Apple would just pick up Fox Sports and BeIN...

I don't know. I feel like Rodgers has had to get creative at the back in order to try to find goals. It clearly hasn't worked, but not having a true striker with Sturridge out seems to be the biggest problem. Save for exceptional moments from Coutinho, Sterling, or Gerrard, the goals seem to be hard to come by. I'm not sure why Moreno isn't playing. You know my take on Johnson, though I thought he played alright today.

I do think the seat has to be a little bit warm, but I don't think that Liverpool can do better if they got rid of him. I also don't think that making a change for change's sake is the answer. Rodgers is, at worst, an above average manager. It's going to be an uphill climb to get back into the Top Four because United is going to now have the combination of a shit ton of cash and Champions League football to sell. May be City takes a giant step back and Liverpool can nick them?

Nothing I really disagree with here - credit to Rodgers for trying anything and everything this season. It's clear that Sterling does not yet have the consistent finishing required to lead the line, that Balotelli is a very poor for for Rodgers's systems (or anyone's?), that Borini stagnated his own career by not coming to terms with Sunderland, and that Lambert will be back at the beetroot factory soon enough. It's borderline impossible to make salad out of that much shit.

Having said that, I still don't understand the defensive shuffling. Rodgers relies on wide play in the first 2/3 of the pitch, which three at the back with two wingbacks and two inside AMs accomplishes in spades. Four at the back worked zero times from what I've seen aside from the 0-3 at Spurs - and Can, krtel, and Sakho (when healthy) were reliable all season in defense. Even Lovren/Touré did not look out of place when in a back 3.

Unrelated, but I'm surprised José Enriqué hasn't been given more of a run in the side given his past deployment as a LWB and attacking mid on the left side.

Johnson was ok today in terms of his marking and made a fine run in the second half for Gerrard to pick him out which Courtois cut off, but it's tough when you envision Moreno on the receiving end of the overlaps Johnson squandered, especially knowing Johnson has no future at the club.

Rodgers is excellent at adapting on the fly, but his medium-long term decision making baffles me at times, along with his substitutions. And though his deployment in the RCB role was out of necessity, Emre Can 100% needs to be in a midfield role moving forward. I trust Rodgers to rectify that; but overall if a manager like Klopp is a remote possibility, that needs to be considered.

Hell of a fight my hoops showed on their way down. Ugh. Between rules violations and general lack of a clue how to build a team, May be a while before we see qpr back.
