Dodgers bullpen just blew another one ... allowed Cubs to tie it in the B10, went ahead in the T11, then gave up 2 in the B11

Play of the night was Joc styling like he had walked it off with a bomb only to have it land in Mookie's glove on the track. It was a game-tying sac fly, so not all was lost but it's a pretty funny 15 second reel of Joc bat flipping, staring into his dugout, sauntering down the line and realizing, in horror, that the ball had not left.

Lowe hits a 3 run HR off the pen after Ohtani had shut the Rays down to pull out a 3-1 Rays win. 4 in a row now. Keeping pace with NYY as they both try to reel in the Sox.

The start of this thread was the Rays in one of their offensive slumps. Well, the Angels pen has been a big cure for that tonight as the Rays will sweep the 4 gamer.

Rays have murdered the Angel pen. Put up 7 in the top of 8th. Joe’s glasses don’t work as well without the boy geniuses quietly calling all the shots for him.

Dylan Cease, Chicago pitcher with zero professional at bats until this week, now has more 3 hit games than Mookie, Freeman, LeMahieu and Lindor.

Baseball, man.

That's another downside to the shift that doesn't feel like it's exploited enough. Just bad all around for the Astros.

It wasn't the shift's fault, it was the pitcher Pressly standing on the mound like he was watching on TV instead of covering third or home.

Eugenio Suarez, who has continued to bat 3rd, 4th or 5th in all of his games this year, is now hitting .133. With a 2-strike count he's 2-for-71.

Dodgers trying desperately to blow a 13-0 lead.
Which would be especially amazing as the Dodgers were FURIOUS when an Angel tried to bunt for a hit down 13-0, even after it resulted in an out. The baseball gods maybe stepped in after that.

Ohtani threw 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB while striking out 10 against a pretty solid Astros lineup. Went 1-4 at the plate. Overall for the season OPS of .903 with an ERA of 2.10.

Jean Segura, 2B of the Phillies, just threw his glove at a ground ball by Soto going past him into the OF. I read on the back of a baseball card when I was a kid that that's a three base penalty, but didn't happen. I'll have to google that.

EDIT: the glove didn't make contact with the ball.

"When a fielder throws his glove at a batted ball, it is a violation of baseball rule, 5.06(4)(C), the detached equipment rule. There is no penalty if the glove does not make contact with the ball but if the glove makes contact, all runners, including the batter runner are awarded three bases."

Corbin Burnes just allowed his first walk of the year, just after breaking the record for most strikeouts before allowing a walk to begin the year. I think he now has 57 K's and 1 BB.

Edit: it was 58, not 57.

It's always the right move when there's a bomb hit that you know is out of the park. If you can knock that sucker down with your glove and turn a HR into a triple, you've done a good job

After the Royals routed the Twins 11-3 on May 1st they held the best record in baseball at 16-9. They have lost 11 straight games since then. Their top pitching prospect Daniel Lynch allowed 3 earned runs in 2.2 innings today lowering his ERA to 15.75. He's amassed 8 total innings in his 3 starts.

White Sox sweep the Twins, who are now 10 games out and in some trouble.

Doesn't work - the three-base rule is overridden if the umpire thinks the ball is going out of the park. It's rule 5.06(b)(4)(A):

Each runner including the batter-runner may, without liability to be put out, advance:

To home base, scoring a run, if a fair ball goes out of the playing field in flight and he touched all bases legally; or if a fair ball which, in the umpire’s judgment, would have gone out of the playing field in flight, is deflected by the act of a fielder in throwing his glove, cap, or any article of his apparel;

In case you had written Bumgarner off as finished (like I had)... he's been amazing recently.

Best K rate of his career so far this year and there is this:

https://www.mlb.com/news/madison-bumgarner-dominant-in-win-over-marlins

"The five straight games with one or fewer runs is one shy of his career-long streak, which he set in 2016.

Bumgarner's WHIP (walks plus hits divided by innings pitched) over that stretch is 0.47, the lowest WHIP by an NL pitcher over a five-start span since Hall of Famer Pete Alexander compiled a 0.42 WHIP over five starts in 1915."

He seems to have found a couple mph on his fastball.

Not to mention his seven-inning no-hitter against the Braves!

Abreu is the first thing Dozier has hit in a week.

(Too soon? I mean he is 0-for-his-last-28 and batting .139)

My question is what the heck was Dozier thinking running full blast into someone looking straight up in the sky.
They were on an 11 game losing streak and he had just weakly popped up, he had his head down because he was pissed and he avoided the catcher which he figured was enough because the ball was going right to him (the catcher). It was a really ugly collision and somehow the telecast had a ridiculous number of angles on it, all of which were ugly.

RotoWorld (or whatever it is now) should try updating some of their mugshots. It was a little jarring to scroll through and see Refsnyder wearing a Chief Wahoo hat, which would place him in spring training 2018. Refsnyder is with his 5th organization since then.

Also, if you're a Twins fan the three things you can count on in life are death, taxes and Byron Buxton on the IL.
