Post mortem:

The power was there (97) but no command.

The change up was high and low, the curve was away in the 2nd and the fastball missed inside and outside.

They had to pull him in the second as the crowd was giving him the Bronx cheer every time (rarely) he threw a strike.

Just in case you didn't notice, there's a brand new all-Cuzz feed on the right in this forum. Pretty much right after we get one of his pieces up on the .com it will be up on the feed so don't gotta worry about me clogging up the gamethread.

That's great, thanks for putting it together.

Trey Ball last night threw five innings of one-run ball, on three hits, three walks, and two Ks.

However, that was after a first inning which he gave up a walk and a HR to Bobby Bradley, the Indians #3 prospect.

All told, it was a quality start: 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 hits, 4 BBs, and 2 Ks.

At what point do people start to get interested in Michael Chavis' .992 OPS in 65 PA?

.356/.415/.576, 4 2B, 3 HR, 10 K against 4 BB.

Maybe when he starts playing again? He's been out since April 23 with a thumb injury that initially sounded quite serious, but Speier tweeted today that it won't require surgery. Not sure if there's a timetable for his return, but it doesn't sound imminent.

Ahh, I'd missed that. I just saw the line and was shocked I hadn't heard more about him.

Feels like we've been chasing big bonus high school potential power bats for years with little to show for it, but Josh Ockimey is rolling along at .295/.446/.579 so far in Greenville with 6 bombs and a 1/1 bb/k ratio. Manageable 22% k rate after striking out in a 3rd of his NYPL plate appearances last season.
Hit his 7th today and added a double for good measure. .303/.452/.616.

Ockimey had another 2 doubles last night and is sitting at a tidy .317/.458/.635. That ..318 ISO is very exciting given his walk and K rates.

Edit: Brohamer got the box score, any idea how his velocity was?

I missed the first 3 innings, didn't realize was doubleheader today. What I saw I believe he topped out at 93. A lot of hard hit balls against E Rod today.

E Rod looked like an average AAA pitcher today. No walks which is a plus. Brian Johnson on the other hand walked the first three batters of the second game.

Looks like Benintendi's 1 day adjustment period is over. Walk, RBI single, RBI double. By tomorrow he should be hitting home runs every at bat.

Finally Elias has a great outing albeit against an awful lineup. 7.1IP 5hits (2 in the 8th) 2runs 0BB and 12k's.

Hopefully he has figured something out since he is really not a strikeout pitcher.

Do the lineups for minor-league teams get posted before the games start anywhere? I want to see Benintendi play when the Sea Dogs play in Hartford next month, but don't really want to drive up there if he's not playing that night.

Check the twitter feeds of the team. They often will have the lineups before the game starts. But, don't drive to Hartford... you won't see him there.

Oh, blah, I just googled the Yard Goats and see the stadium now isn't opening until July. Thanks for the heads up.

edit: I see you wrote a .com article about it too. That'll teach me to not check that site.

MiLB gameday is weird... how can you have an accurate pitch tracker that shows location, but not velocity or pitch type? Anyway, looks like Espinoza has some iffy command again, but has some swinging strikes and grounders at least.

Wow, he started the 5th, already at 75 pitches. Longer leash than usual.

edit- finishes his 5 innings at 81 pitches 1 BB 4 K.

Craig got the start at 1B while Travis sat, for the second time this week. Any word on how playing time will be split? It seems a shame to sit a prospect in order to give playing time to Craig.

He has started 38 of 41 games this season... including both halves of 3 doubleheaders. A couple of days of rest is not a reason to be overly concerned.

True, but Craig has been on the DL for a month so they did not have to worry about squeezing him in the lineup. Now that he is back, how many days a week do you give him at 1B? The outfield rotation is also a bit tighter with Swihart out there periodically (as he was last night). I am curious how you weigh the need to get your prospects on the field vs. running Craig out there.

Seems to be Struggling again. 4 innings, 8 base runners and 3 runs.

Only 1 walk but 7 hits. Anyone at the game that can comment on how he looks?
I'm always stuck looking at box scores without firsthand reports but I never put a ton of stock in ml hit totals, especially in the lower levels. For instance last night there were 3 groundball hits including a bunt single; maybe with better defense there's only 1 and maybe a couple others don't drop in either (live scouting could refute any or all of this of course). Lots of grounders, 4k in 5ip, only 1bb and he finished strong. Not too worried about the rest at this point, aside from the general annoyance of wanting him to be dominant every time out.

Absolutely no need to worry and much improved from last start. I too am normally stuck looking at box scores (though the MiLB app and the free radio broadcast helps fix this somewhat). The kid is only 18 and seems to be holding his own in full season ball. That's good stuff.

I'm going to retract my previous Sam Travis statements and say:

Travis is either fighting a minor illness or battling a minor injury as he did not start again tonight. He was a defensive replacement. Chris Marrero started at 1st for the second time this week.

Any reports on how his stuff looks? 23ks and 15bb in 35 ip isn't really all that great, but it looks like he's getting a lot of ground balls and throwing an exceptionally high percentage of strikes. These results are far more encouraging than anything we've seen to date though, at least sustained.

Ball joins Moncada, Benintendi, and Dubon as Salem successes so far but Rafael Devers season long slump is concerning.

I don't really know much about this guy, but Bobby Poyner is quietly putting together a great season ( 20 IP, 9 hits, NO WALKS, and 25 punchouts) in middle A and might be worth keeping an eye on as a potential future big league LOOGY
