Hey, hey, it's May.

Will the Yankees keep winning?

Will the Twins?

Is this the Mets' year?

By the end of May, it may be hard to know what teams are the best, but you can typically see which are the worst.

I'm watching the LA/CHI game on EI and the sound completely went out. This is the second time this has happened this season while watching on EI. Is anyone else having this issue? Even the commercials are silent.

Five years ago Cano was 34 and within 4 full seasons of reaching the 3,000 hit club. Two suspensions and a complete collapse since, he's probably finished at 2,632.

Just 2.6 total bWAR for the final seven years of his 10/240 deal. My favorite Yankee for a few years early on, but glad that he went to SEA, even the 7/175 NY offered him would have turned out pretty ugly.

Just crazy. I mean we all saw this coming to someone extent, but the actuals are off the charts.

Tonight Mike Clevinger makes his first appearance since the end of the 2020 season and his first appearance in Cleveland since he was traded to San Diego in 2020. It would have been great if he matched up against Cal Quantrill, who was part of the return package, but it will be his former teammate Zach Plesac. Of all the veterans Cleveland has traded the past few years, I wouldn't have guessed that Clevinger would be the one that went the furthest in rebuilding the team (aside from Quantrill, the Guardians will probably have 3 guys in the starting lineup tonight from that deal).

It didn’t look like Bumgarner was caught with a foreign substance. He was clearly pissed that the ump was checking him so thoroughly compared to the usual hand swipe.

That's really bizarre. I wonder what happened before that clip starts, because Bumgarner was already barking at someone (home plate ump?) as he walked off the field. The ump who checks his hands also stared him down while checking his hand, wasn't really looking at Bumgarner's hand while he checked it.

Seems to me the ump checking the hands wanted a confrontation and he got one.

4 2/3 IP with 4 hits, 3 walks, and 4 SOs. Not too bad for his first start - that rotation is going to be dangerous if he gets back to 2020 form.

What a complete asshole umpire. These guys need consequences for their actions. That's completely unacceptable.

I really don't understand how the union is so powerful that these guys suffer absolutely zero consequences for their behavior (let alone for simply sucking at their jobs).

He was kind of effectively wild with less than 57% of pitches going for strikes, but that's certainly understandable for the first start back by a guy who has also never been known for pinpoint control. I was a little surprised he threw 95 pitches, but I wasn't able to watch or listen, so I don't know what the expectations really were.

Cal Quantrill wasn't sharp in the second game of the double-header, but went 6 innings and got a no-decision. Then Owen Miller, Austin Hedges and Josh Naylor were all part of the come-from-behind victory… all guys who were part of the package Cleveland received for Clevinger.

The Reds have lost 19 of their last 20 games. They've fallen 13.5 games out of 1st place less than a month into the season. It's one thing to watch a team full of kids who have been thrown into the fire take their lumps, but Cincinnati's lineup is mostly a collection of 30-ish-year-old bench players and a couple of over-the-hill guys who used to be good. Even after India and Barrero get healthy that still only gives them 3 players (along with Stephenson) who might be in their 2025 starting lineup.

The pitching staff has a 6.12 ERA, but at least they have a few guys there who should have better days ahead of them (Greene & Lodolo) if they don't get too shellshocked in the meantime, with a little more help to come from the upper minors. Most of their top position prospects aren't even in AA yet.

Once again the Reds score right away… and can't even hold the lead for a single inning. Down 8-3 in the 3rd and Hunter Greene's ERA is approaching 9.00 (but still better than Gutierrez and Sanmartin).

I think there is punishment, but it's not public. It should be. The closest we got was Angel losing his court case when MLB's official defense was just "This guy is terrible at his job." And he's still employed. If that wasn't enough to break the union or at least really lean on it, I'm not sure anything short of an ump curb-stomping a player on the field will do.

Mets trying to steal one from the Phillies, they came into the 9th down 7-1 but have 5 hits, 7-4 now, two runners on, tying run up (Dom Smith), just one out.

Smith strikes out, but JD Davis rips a double into the corner, 7-5, 2nd and 3rd. Top of the order back around, Nimmo is up.

Lindor has already homered this inning, he is two batters away from coming up again.

Marte doubles deep off the left center wall on the first pitch, Nimmo scores easily from 1st, 8-7 Mets!

Hey, Matt Barnes pitched well for Dave Dombrowski. Give him a call, Chaim, and see if you can peddle Barnes to the Phils.

Diaz retires the side easily, 8-7 Mets win in Philly. That is a devastating loss for PHI, 4th in a row.

Reds won Game 1 of the DH against the Pirates. With the game tied, they scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 8th after the Pirates starting catcher got hurt in the top of the 8th and their backup catcher had been ejected earlier. Sounds like their emergency catcher was a train wreck.
