Calgary & Vancouver are going to play three meaningless games on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I’m honestly surprised that they are playing those out given that there are no paying fans in the buildings.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone heard of any plans on how the North Division champs are going to play on against US teams? I’m assuming that crossing the border without quarantining is still a no go for the Canadian Government. I guess it would make sense for them to just borrow the Sabres facilities for a few weeks?

They are playing the games to fulfill TV and advertisement contracts.

Last I heard, the league was looking for host cities in the US for the North division champ.

Kevyn Adams is giving the Sabres side of the Eichel saga. He says at this point Eichel has not asked for a trade. From Friedman, apparently Eichel's exit interview was quite contentious.

On the medical front, apparently all doctors involved agreed upon a conservative approach to treating the herniated disc. This includes the 2nd opinion doctors. There was an agreed upon 12 week "rest" period before a re-evaluation. During the down time, Eichel's camp has also explored a surgical option. Allegedly, the surgery that would be performed has never been done on an NHL player, which has given the Sabres medical staff some reason for concern and they don't seem comfortable with it.

What a shit show.

Talking about this publicly is the absolute LAST thing Adams should be doing. What a disaster. No chance Jack plays another game there. Burn the org to the ground.

How do the Sabres get equal value for Eichel with his neck injury presently unrepaired? Surgery no hockey player has ever had? This is a very sorry affair.

P.S. Fluto says in the Athletic that if Eichel comes home to Boston we would need to send McEvoy and Pasta for starters. Lol.

I wouldn’t do either of them straight up for Eichel with his injury and his contract.

Some good details on the Eichel saga in Friedman's 31 Thoughts.

He does list the Bruins as a team that will try, but questions if they have enough.

They don't. That's why Fluto said McAvoy or Pastrnak. I don't think they can build a competitive package excluding those 2. We don't have an expendable young studs, our draft picks are low, we have a lousy farm system, and the middle class guys are OK but ultimately not all that appealing. I guess the best we could do is like Grzelyck, DeBrusk, Studnicka, and then picks/prospects. That'll be easily beaten by a number of teams. Someone will put a young blue chip prospect or roster player on the table plus a premium pick or two. I think it'd take a similar situation as Hall to get Eichel here but Eichel doesn't have the no-move to create leverage.

It's probably going to be NYR or LAK. NYR is the current betting favorite at 5/2. FWIW, B's come in 4th at 5/1 with the Coyotes 3rd (!?) at 4/1. NYR make the most sense given what they can offer but I'd probably lean LAK because Buffalo will probably be dumb and take slightly less from LAK to keep Eichel out of the state and conference.

I think this is exactly right. The bruins just don’t have enough. McAvoy is arguably more valuable than Eichel so that’s a non starter to me. Pasta is probably equal but that doesn’t feel smart. The rest of the bruins assets are not compelling. I’m with you that he ends up in LA.

I believe with last night's results, we all the playoff series are set. The North and Pacific are still finishing up the regular season but I don't believe any of the seedings can change.

Pittsburgh/NY Islanders
Washington/Boston

Toronto/Montreal
Edmonton/Winnipeg

Carolina/Nashville
Florida/Tampa Bay

Vegas/St. Louis
Colorado/Minnesota

Some interesting matchups there. It'll be the first playoff series between Toronto and Montreal since 1979. Too bad there won't be fans, as much as both fan bases suck. The Battle of Florida could be a lot of fun. Tampa kind of limped to the finish line but if health allows they'll be rolling out their $100 million roster. I still think they are the favorites. The Pacific is going to be a dog fight. An argument can be made that the Knights and Avs are the 2 best teams in the league so if they hold serve in round 1 that'll be a hell of a match up in round 2.

One nit, the Avs can finish first (and first overall) with a win tonight.
Can they? If they win in regulation/OT they tie in points, tie in ROW but Vegas will have 40 W to Colorado's 39. I thought that factored in somewhere, but maybe I'm getting my tiebreakers mixed up.

I think it's RW first and then ROW. Avs are up 34-30 in RW.

John Taveras gets kicked in the head by Corey Perry ... taken to the hospital. If you get a chance to see the replay ... don’t.

I think it was an accident. If it wasn’t you could charge Perry with attempted murder.

Yikes, just saw it before I came here. Accidental by Perry, but Tavares looked really, really messed up.
